Now that the Wings have gone beyond all our rational expectations, can the people who are posting things like "God, we are awful" please just cool it for the rest of the playoffs?  We are going to get scored on.  And we are going to lose games.  That's not Kind.  That's not Samuelson.  That's not Howard.  THAT'S F$%KING SPORTS, PEOPLE.  Now is the time to cheer for the Wings.  Not trash them.  We've got a good squad.

Is there anyone here that actually believes we win this?

Yup.  Me.

Carey Price is going to the playoffs.  I'm sure he's doing just fine.

I'm sure he is, but there are those who seem to think he is infinitely superior to Howard.  IMHO they are both very good goalies who may very well be proven great by the end of their careers.

#2384389 nhl.com calls Kenny the best GM

Posted by The Axe on 13 April 2013 - 12:46 PM

But who is available to replace those guys?  There are very, very few quality FAs available these days.  How do you replace a guy like Lidstrom?  There is NO_ONE, not a single player, in the NHL right now who is as good as Lidstrom was.  Chara and Weber are as good as it gets, neither is in the "all-time, all-NHL" bracket like Lidstrom is, neither will hit Free Agency, and if they were available for trade, the cost would be crippling.

I do agree we are in decline - I've been saying it for several years - but even in a transitional year, we are still in a playoff spot.

A bit of perspective.  Our big rivals from the free-spending years.  Colorado - what happened to them after Roy, Foote, Sakic, Forsberg et al retired?  They've sucked ever since.  What about Dallas after Modano, Belfour, Zubov etc went?  They've sucked.  What happened to us after we lost Yzerman, Fedorov, Shanahan, Larionov, Hull, Robitaille etc?  Ken Holland went out and built another Stanley Cup roster.  And now most of that roster has retired or left and he's rebuilding the team again.  How many GMs out there have sucessfully rebuilt Cup winning rosters? Lou Lamoriello, and uh, I think thats about it.

As I've said before, if he gets the blame for Suter's wife and Parise being from Minnesota, he sure as hell gets the credit for DelKaiser being from Michigan

A good GM makes the moves that are hard to get done.  Not the cupcakes.

I am obviously in the minority here but I thought they played very well tonight and good last night against San Jose. Am I pissed that we didn't walk out of Chicago with 2 points....of course, but it seems like we are playing with passion. Gus belongs in this line up and Miller and Abby have superceeded their potential. I think a lot of the guys have stepped it up, even though we apparently cant score more than two goals in one game ever. The Toews goal wasn't some lame five hole garbage from the point. Howie made the 1st save and NOBODY is going to make the second save on Toews. This is a team that will most likely win the Presidents Trophy, the best goalie tandem in the NHL and has offense out the wazoo.
To me, the last two games, playing very talented teams have been really good. I'm more concerned about playing teams that are clearly less talented than us. Nashville will show this teams true colours, much more than us losing in a SO to the leagues best.

Cheering injuries is really pathetic. I don't care how bad you think a player is. He's a human being.

#2332445 What would your proposal be?

Posted by number9 on 23 October 2012 - 01:47 AM

I propose a 50/50 split... 50% of the year the league plays hockey, and the other 50% of the year the league doesn't not play hockey. Simple. Revenue will be split 50/50 as well, half going to players and owners and the other half going to a fan fund. The fan fund will only be redeemable in beer.

Dare you to match that Bettman/Fehr

Always knew my BA in business would pay off

#2289064 Three keys to beating Nashville?

I very much agree with the OP. May I add to this? how about stop trying to "set up" everything and just drive the net and get to the slot. It'll go a long way there is NO WAY Nashville can hang with a high intensity fast tempo Red Wings

Pissed away a golden chance there.  They'd better bury every shot in the shootout for JMac.  He absolutely deserves the win and the first star tonight.

Good enough?

K THANKS BYE.

The sad thing is whether you agree with those penalties or not, the Wings have been playing too lazily to argue against them.

They get beat to the puck and have to take penalties to compensate.  Horrible.

#2167059 WCSF Game 3 GDT: Sharks 4 at Red Wings 3 (OT)

Posted by WINGSINAZ on 05 May 2011 - 06:25 PM

One has to believe that this streak of loosing one goal games to the Sharks is going to turn in our favor at some point.  Whether that's the next game or next year or some other time in the future I don't know.  But these things have a way of evening out.

Look at our run over the past 20 years.  In the early 90's we couldn't find a way to win in the playoffs and Colorado got the better of us a couple years in a row.  Then the tables turned and we we got the better of them.

Look at the 2008 and 2009 Stanley Cup finals.  One year we get the better of Pittsburg, the next they get the better of us.

This is just how hockey works.  All we can really hope for and believe in is that starting in game 4, the Wings start to find ways to win by the slimist of margins instead of being on the other side.

And if the Sharks win this thing, we tip our hats to them and put faith in our future.

But winning 4 in a row is not impossible (especially when the games are so close).  We've already done it once this post season, lets just believe our boys can do it again.

GO WINGS!!!

i dont think you could understand my hatred for crosby,  everyone one saw him lift the cup on our ice on tv, but i saw it live in front of me, after he didnt play more than half of game 7, he was okay to lift it up, and the smirk on bettman's face in the picture when crosby lifts the cup is just gut wrenching to me. I hate crosby, i hate the penguins, and i hate the city of pittsburgh. i dont care if he plays or not, i did it last year at home, and i will do it this year. tonight is my night to unleash all my hatred for him and the pens. dont try and stop me please :ranting:

I noticed that too.  He's too injured to play in the most important game of his life, but he's okay to pick up a 35 pound trophy and skate around, holding it over his head.  Hmmmm

I know you hate the Pens, a lot of people do, but if Yzerman and Lidstrom taught us anything, its to always take the high road.  Chanting "Crosby Sucks" tonight would be just as ridiculous as Chicago fans chanting "Detroit sucks" when they're playing someone else.
