Just 4 more goals and we should have this wrapped up.

We don't watch hockey with the same eyes.

Yup...Smith pinched even though Carter took off right in front of him. And then he didn't hustle to get back.

When you spend the entire night killing penalties, you can bet you won't look sharp in OT. Thanks NHL refs for deciding this one. I wish I knew which games they decided the Wings should lose so I could do other things.

We have no chance tonight with the league wanting to make sure Ovechkin breaks the Russian record in Detroit.

Not even close to a playoff team.

We will NEVER win against San Jose. Never I say. And Jones is the best Goalie in the history of the NHL.

Get one past Holtby, the floodgates will open.

You mean get ANOTHER one past Holtby that the refs allow, correct?

I guess we need the stick not the carrot.

Still waiting to see the back-to-back weariness from teams that play the wings. Still Waiting....

#2618450 Wings sign Brad Richards 1 yr, $3 million

Posted by gowings00 on 01 July 2015 - 05:19 PM

Not sure why people are mad about this. I think Richards is extremely underrated and plays well at both ends of the ice. Sure there's a log jam of forwards/centers but I think it's a good problem to have and opens up the ability for trades.

Besides the fact it's a one year deal and we have the cap space. Why just let the money sit there for a year?

Because that's what we do in this forum. We trash talk and play armchair GM. Today couldn't have gone much better. I love the signings. Green took a big discount and Richards is a $3 million player. He also took a discount last year since he was paid big on the prior contract with the Rangers. Other than trading Ericcsson to clear space for one of our young defensemen, I'm happy. B+ Grade Kenny Holland.

#2611884 Coaching Search Thread a.k.a. the Jeff Blashill Thread

Posted by gowings00 on 30 May 2015 - 06:34 AM

A couple of points that should be encouraging even to the most cynical of fans.
1. For two straight years we have looked horrible in the first 10-15 minutes of almost ever game. A new voice in the locker room Will Improve our teams starts. If only because we simply can't be that bad again.
2. Blashill will breathe new life into some dead/stagnant players. Will it be Weiss (if he's still here) Franzen, Jurco? No idea, but I'm convinced a few will come alive.
3. Our goalie situation will be much better this year. Competition will bring out the best in both resulting in a more consistent year between the pipes. Blashill has confidence in Mrazek and should make him feel comfortable.
4. I think we have a good enough team (make the playoffs) that Blash can make some mistakes, test some lines and learn NHL matchups and we will still have enough points.
5. I have to believe that Kenny will finally upgrade the Blue Line (of course I say this every year) with some serious talent which should push Big E back down to the 2nd pairing. Thus making it easier for Blashill. On the other hand, I think Blashill will be a better evaluator of which kids are ready to replace our current veteran crop and therefore able to see who is expendable.

#2605623 Free agents this off season

Posted by gowings00 on 02 May 2015 - 07:42 PM

If ever there was a time to make a trade for a top tier defensemen while giving up some young excess talented forwards in return, it's now. You never want to trade away potential goal scorers and I get that but we have too many mistakes in our back end and zero offense coming from our blue line. We have to change that.

I think this will be Babcocks message and plea to Holland.

Oh....and can we please get some size?

#2605453 Who is the coach next season?

Posted by gowings00 on 01 May 2015 - 03:38 PM

And like I said, if he can't win without a datsuk or zetterberg then he's not that good.

It's not their names or the amount of points he wants. He wants that type of leadership, commitment and effort on the ice. It's something every coach struggles with: Do I go for talent or guys that who can set the example on the ice. Fillpula vs Weiss. Cleary vs whoever we could have signed if not for Cleary.
Now, I have my frustrations with Babcock but it's a valid point Babcock is making.

#2604340 ECQF Game 7 GDT : at Lightning 2, Red Wings 0 (Tampa wins series, 4-3)

Posted by gowings00 on 29 April 2015 - 09:02 PM

I hope Mantha and Pulkinnen can make this team good in the future.  Nyquist and Tatar are just not playoff performers these last two years.

Didn't Tatar score two goals only one game ago?
