#2425105 Wings buy out Colaiacovo, will keep Bertuzzi

Posted by TheOwl on 02 July 2013 - 09:06 PM

"I mean, this horrible, god-awfully managed team was one game away from the WCF.  God we suck and so does Holland. Glad to know we can gripe just as loudly and as obnoxiously as other fans of other teams in the league.  Way to go Wings Fans."

Chicago underplayed and we overplayed, simple as that. They did win the cup after all. At least other teams are trying to make changes. Holland isn't going to make any changes, other than letting Flipulla leave for nothing (just like Hudler). The Wings roster is massive right now. Paying two players 3 million a season is idiotic when you have 14 forwards already. Why not pay one player 6 million! And guess what, that one player might actually SCORE a GOAL.

"Part of what influences the Wings as they prepare for this coming season is knowing they’ll have three young players pushing for spots in 2014-15, when Tomas Jurco, Riley Sheahan and Landon Ferraro are all expected to be ready for the NHL"

This is what makes me ok with not getting vinyl or making a big move.

You do know that you can only have six bottom six forwards right? You need two lines that can put the puck in the net, EVERY NIGHT. We have 3 legitimate top 6 forwards right now. Having 15 forwards signed is pretty useless when only 3 or 4 can score a goal on a regular basis.

#2425084 Report: Red Wings out on Lecavalier - signs with Philly 5@4.5 per

Posted by TheOwl on 02 July 2013 - 08:39 PM

Horrible move by Holland. You'll pay Sammy 3 million a year, but you won't pay Vincent 4.5? The guy would of been our 3rd best forward. You wouldn't pay 4.5 million for a top 3 forward? Come on. The Wings can't score. They haven't been scoring for YEARS. How do you fix such a problem? PAY A FEW EXTRA BUCKS AND SIGN SOME DECENT TOP 6 FORWARDS. Would you rather have Vincent at 4.5 a season, or Cleary at 3. Seriously.

I will use my magical crystal ball and tell you what Holland will do in the next week:

Cleary for 3 million a season for 3-4 years.

Sign Brunner for 2-3 million for 3-4 years.

Buy-out Carlo.

"We like our team." - Holland

DONE. We will have an IDENTICAL team to last year, except Flipulla will be gone. The Wings need 1-2 top 6 forwards. The Wings have too many players signed, and Kenny seems not to care. Get rid of a few, and get BETTER ONES. WE HAVE THE SPACE. GETTER DONE.

I will bet ANYONE on here $20 that Philly will win the cup before the Wings do. Making moves, even if a few are bad, is better than doing nothing. And Kenny has basically made ZERO moves for 5 years.

When every team in the entire league "overpays" players, the team that doesn't is going to lose. Every team overpays a few players, thats how you get quality free agents. Holland needs to improve the top 6, Lecavalier is worth 5 million a season.

#2421143 Dreger: Filppula looking for $5.5m/season over at least 7 years

Posted by TheOwl on 21 June 2013 - 12:20 AM

Hell no....wouldn't take him for half the money and 6 years...let him go....send Cleary with him

The guy is one of the best players on the team. Very underrated, drafted and developed in house. If he won't take 3.5-4 million, then gonna have to let him go. Letting Hudler go was a HUGE mistake, and it will be a HUGE mistake to let Flipulla go too. The Red Wings waste so much cap space on people who don't even play, they can afford to overpay a player by a million here or there.

Good point but it's not ONLY last night. That Jimmy Howard f*** up pretty much summed up the whole season. Things just didn't go our way from day one. Injuries and just sloppy play all around. I'm not counting them out of the playoffs yet. Hopefully they make it and whatever happens after that is up to them. Just hurts me to see players like Zetterberg and Datsyuk not as effective as they used to be.

Dats and Zetterberg still have the ability to dominate any game, the problem is their line mates suck.

The Wings can't score. The quality of scoring chances is appauling. No one finishes. Howard had a bad game, but how many times does he bail us out? We rarely give him any breaks. He can't be 100% every night, especially when there is so much pressure on him because we can't score.

Franzen is getting lazy. I feel like these super long term contracts ruins some players (see Bryzgalov, etc.). I mean, you have alread got your money. You have no financial motivation to play better or harder, Most guys are playing their best, hoping for a raise in a couple years if they play well. Not Franzen. He's become lazy. That's the best word to describe it. Mules should be insulted this lazy bum has their nickname.

Big mistake.

#2382068 Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs

If any of the teams below us get hot it's over. The Wings have a tough schedual for the rest of the season.

#2380629 Red Wings lack offensive creativity

Posted by TheOwl on 05 April 2013 - 12:51 AM

Hmmm.. The Wings need a top 4 puck moving defenseman, and a couple top 6 forwards who can actually score a goal. Hmmm... if only there was someway to obtain such players. Hmmm... if only you could somehow exchange players, picks or prospects with other teams to make your own team better. Hmmm.... it would be so perfect. Hmmm... if only we could of gotten rid of some of the 3 extra defenseman we don't  have ice time for. If only we could of gotten rid of some of the 4 extra forwards who take up a bunch of cap space? And if only we could get rid of some of our goalie prospects wasting there lives in Grand Rapids because we already have a #1 for the distant future, and a very skilled #3 in the waiting. Hmmm.... if only every other team in contention hadn't magically become better!

#2379543 Official NHL Trade Deadline thread

Posted by TheOwl on 03 April 2013 - 02:10 PM

"Prices too high"

No they aren't, the prices are rock bottom. No team overpaid for any player other than perhaps Hanzus. Holland doesn't seem to know the difference between quality versus quanity. He's hording all these prospects which will go nowhere. Gaborik, Roy, Pominville, Iginla, Meester, Jagr, every signifcant player traded, was traded for NOTHING. Worthless prospects and draft picks aren't high prices. Trading one great player for 2 crappy prospects and picks isn't high prices. One good player is worth more than 3 crappy players everytime.

#2378683 Stars trade Jaromir Jagr to Bruins

Posted by TheOwl on 02 April 2013 - 01:14 PM

Jagr to the Bruins, poor choice by the Bruins to send away two prospects and a pick.... At most Jagr was worth a 2nd round pick

I disagree. Jagr is the leading scorer on Dallas, and has more points than all but two of our players this season. The two prospects will likely never play in the NHL, so they are not worth very much. Picks are also not worth much, as they are also very unlikely to generate an NHL player.

Every premium player, Jagr, Meester, Iginla, have so far been traded away for nothing. The prices are rock bottom.

#2369189 Datsyuk Leaving?!

Posted by TheOwl on 15 March 2013 - 01:10 AM

Detroit will be screwed once Datsyuk leaves. The Wings have the system right now to win a cup. They have lots of prospects, cap space, and the core to make it happen either this year or next year. Holland is too scared to make any moves, he seems pretty content with the way things have gone the last 3 years. Babcock is losing is marbles and making terrible decisions. The problem with the Wings right now is coaching and management.

If Holland would make the changes needed, and Babcock would read the writing on the wall that multiple players are USELESS, this would be a different team.

For a team that's 29-12, and missing about a 1/3 of their roster (salary wise), some of you sure complain a lot.
