That would be like me saying, "Gee, I hope Dats doesn't ask for $3 million per for his next contract."  It just as ridiculous as Lidstrom asking to play for what any rational person knows to be peanuts.  So the point is....why even say it?

How is it absurd to hope when the outcome is unknown? He could very well ask for less than you think he deserves 'just because'. The only thing bordering absurd is your willingness to squash hope. You hope squasher.

Well... you can only assume that his absence on the big club during the injury stretch means that he isn't tearing it up in GR. I have no data to back that, but that's my initial reaction. Be cool to see him get a shot though.

I'd love to see Smith too but I don't know about bringing him up at the moment. Seems too soon still. I'd rather see him play when the team is a little more stable.

I'm gonna go outside the box a little and say Bryz. I think he would be money on the Wings anyway.

Any era is better than this one. The NHL is almost unwatchable under the current system. I voted 80's.

That's like comparing apples to oranges.  They're two totally different mindsets and attitudes. I have a lot more respect for Johan than I ever did Fedorov.  And you'll never see Johan getting speeding tickets in a Ferrari.  He's just not that type.  No conceit.

I can understand the point your alluding to with your post, but as others have said - Fedorov was so much better in his own zone.  Franzen is great, and has the ability to unleash the fury in any given game; but Fedorov was elite when he was a Red Wing.

Ya. I know it's kinda hard to have an objective comparison between Feds and anybody here at LGW, but my first though last night was how weird it was that Franzen has been annoying me this season with what I perceive to be a lack of effort on some nights, only to explode for 5 goals. Very Fedorov'esque to me.  

Yeah hes a huge staple, last playoffs he had the 6th most PP time on ice out of every forward. And there are plenty of guys tha are less one dimensional then Hudler that can play the PP. I guess Williams was a staple too, shoulda kept him

Obviously it would be better if Hudler was big and mean on top of everything else. Unfortunately, players like that don't grow on trees at Hudler's salary. You can still dream. I'm just sayin.

I have a love-hate relationship with Salei.

He has moments where he plays outstanding and makes life great.

Then he has plenty of moments where he pinches at inappropriate times and misses the puck and his man causing plenty of odd man rushes.

He is a good value for what he is.

But I would rather still have Lilja.

People keep saying they would rather have Lilja... you guys talking about post concussion Lilja? Cuz the pre-concussion Lilja doesn't exist anymore. And from what I saw, post-concussion Lilja was more or less useless.

Hudler had 2 goals and 2 assists in the four games before the hit, and 2 goals and 6 assists the next 18 games after the hit.  Draw your own conclusions.

Filppula is seriously, and I'm not going overboard, looking like Datsyuk out there with his weaving through traffic. He's got terrific speed, unbelievable vision, and his hands in getting in and out of traffic has improved so much.

He's a better player when he has more responsibility, look at the way he steps it up in the playoffs and when Dats has been out. He's clutch.

Yes you are. He's good but he isn't nowhere near Datsyuk good imo. Datsyuk has a unique skill set. Flip doesn't. I think Flip can be dominant when he wants to, but you overshot the compliment by comparing him to Datsyuk imo.

To sum it in one word. Patience. Patience in your progress and patience on the ice. Learn patience as soon as possible. All the greatest players in the world have one thing in common. Patience.

no offense, but if u are in your teens - you probably missed the boat.  unless your playing with friends for fun, youll be pretty much walking on ice.  learning to skate isnt easy.  if you try to play in a youth hockey association at your age, even house league people will probably blow by you.

i loved playing summer hockey, when they had about 2 rep players per each team of house leaguers.  hockey is not easy.  i learned to skate when i was about 5, and even took figure skating lessons before.

You're making skating out to be A LOT harder than it really is. I'm sure he's not planning on competing for a spot on Team USA. It's no different than anything else, with enough practice and dedication and smarts, you can be a solid hockey player no matter what your age.

And "missed the boat" on what exactly? Playing hockey and having fun?
