Whose this nyquist kid? And why do they keep talking about him?

Just some third liner.

#2539294 Kindl on the block

Rask

Oshie

Niskanen

Neal

Stastny

Letang

Quick

Boll

Yandle

Hjalmarsson

...even Stralman went way after Kindl.  Not saying we were the only ones who picked a dud, there are always duds.  Have a great career Kindl, just not here anymore...

Yes but every draft is like that in hindsight, and the Wings certainly weren't the only teams to miss out on those players you listed. Not every pick pans out and at least Kindl made it to the big leagues. There's a lot of guys in that draft, many who were even drafted before Kindl who never even made it to the NHL.

I hear you, but its all just hindsight.... like how we picked Ferraro and the pick after that the Avs got O'Reilly.

Good for Toots. Never got the fair shake here, and he's a heart and soul guy.

#2538827 Datsyuk to play Thursday? Weiss to be a healthy scratch?

Posted by hooon on 07 October 2014 - 03:06 PM

Seems like Babs has really been calling out Holland lately, even comparing him to a nagging wife who always gets her way. I like that Babs is getting fed up, but this also doesn't speak too well for his contract negotiations if he and the GM are so far apart on things.

I like the d-pairings all things considered, and I'm willing to hold my breath on the PP units for a little while.

I just wish they'd switch Nyquist and Abby in those forward lines. I know its all the rage for our brass to vilify players who didn't put up big numbers in the pre-season... but why is Nyquist relegated to the third line with non-offensive linemates?

Can't wait for Datsyuk to be back.

#2538067 Datsyuk 2nd degree separated shoulder injury - out approx 4 weeks

Posted by hooon on 02 October 2014 - 09:10 PM

Its nice that he's doing well, but I remember this happening last year with our guys where we'd get them back in the lineup as soon as possible, and then they'd be out again soon after, or be relatively ineffective when they returned. I'd almost rather he takes the extra week or two off, rather than risk reinjuring or playing at less than 100%.

Either way, its good news that he's healing well, and I'm excited for when he comes back and works his magic again.

Pretty hilarious how Chicago ALWAYS ices their top guys against us in the preseason.

#2536926 9/22/14 7:00 PM. Preseason GDT - DET 2 @ PIT 1

Posted by hooon on 22 September 2014 - 11:17 PM

He doesn't remember it, but I tell him about it all the time.  He was born during that season.  So I always tell him the Wings won the Cup in Pittsburgh the year he was born.

You, good sir, are awesome. Warms my heart to see another young Wings fan getting into it. Cool custom jersey he's got too.

Didn't see the game nor the highlights, but loved the names on the scoresheet!

#2536688 Has hakan Andersson done it again ?

Posted by hooon on 21 September 2014 - 12:38 AM

Haven't seen him play, but there was a good article about him that came out over the summer a couple months ago that praised him highly and talked of his skill set and ability.

I will support any Holmstrom in the Wings organization.

More interested than anything else to see how Weiss is doing

This is a great point. Weiss was a disappointment and his name gets lost in the shuffle a bit, but his health and ability this season actually have a huge impact on this team. If he returns to form, the Wings are already MUCH better off than last season.

#2536554 Mantha's Injury

Posted by hooon on 19 September 2014 - 12:09 AM

While I love the Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco line, it would be awesome to see Jurco get some real top 6 time. He had a couple games with Datsyuk and they looked good together.

I'm bummed about the Mantha injury and the blip in his development, but I also expected him to play mostly in GR to start the season. Additionally, I expect big things from Jurco this year, and would love to see him take the opportunity and run with it.

#2536184 Nice article on Mantha

My left shoe could put up more points than Abby playing with z and d.

Left shoe on the right wing. Another leftie on the right side in Detroit, nothing changes.

As much as I like Seinfeld - I'd get into it more if it had a 'Big Lebowski' theme night.

Bathrobe themed jerseys?

I like the Seinfeld idea - its a pretty bizarre thing to do, but what the heck!

#2535373 Nice article on Mantha

Posted by hooon on 02 September 2014 - 11:43 AM

As excited as I am about Mantha - if we're being honest, his presence on the Wings this season affects our cup chances exactly 0%. He isn't going to put us over the top, so I really don't mind giving him one transitional year in the AHL, a league that I believe he can he can score a lot a points in, while refining the other parts of his game.

We all want to see him play, but the last thing I want is for him to get small minutes on the bottom two lines with the Wings with non-offensive linemates when he could be getting big minutes in GR with other offensive and two-way guys.
