I really hope we do get to see a healthy Weiss this year. The Wings really need to know what type of player he is. If he is still a shell of his former self, then we have some (limited) options for getting rid of him this summer, and keeping Legwand, who is a better, potentially cheaper version of Weiss.
If Weiss is healthy and rejuvenated and starts making an impact then we hang on to him, but I don't want to have the same problem as this year where we start the season with ten thousand forwards signed.
Very happy about the positive news on Datsyuk, I just hope he's fully healthy this time.
Okay, hate to throw the monkey wrench into the works here, but, these kids are producing at a really high level. Now I am not saying they have replaced Z and D, but they have soften the blow a lot. What you should ask yourself are the following:
#1 How much different would things be if you added D and Z, and subtracted Nyquist, and Sheahan? Because remember that on the perfectly healthy day roster neither of these guys made the cut.
#2 Will this team ever be perfectly healthy? Z is by far my favorite player in the league, but, he now has a pretty impressive history of injury. We can speculate on what this team would or could do, but is this team actually capable of being healthy anymore?
They may have started the season this way, but after a month or two of all of us complaining, Babcock DID scratch Cleary and Bert, and the team DID waive Sammy. Z, D, Nyquist and Sheahan have all been in the lineup at the same time this season, so it is not a matter of either/or.
People get mad at Babcock/Holland for the opening day roster - understandably - but no one ever mentions how the old guys got scratched/waived in favor of the youngsters once they got their chance. People make mistakes - even coaches - and are allowed to correct those mistakes. Babs hand might have been forced a bit by the injuries, but its not as though he is going to send Nyquist and Sheahan back to the minors once Cleary is healthy again....
Holy, Z missed all that time and still leads his team in stats...friggen beast
Well considering the only other player on the team (Datsyuk) who would have a shot at outscoring Z has missed even more games than him... and considering that everyone else on the team not named Miller, Quincey, and Cleary have missed a ton of time, it isn't THAT surprising.
I love that lineup tonight, let us see if we can finally get some wins in Florida this season.
Bombay on the first line is questionable with his injury history. Not sure his knee can handle those minutes. I might add some speed to that top line with a Luis Mendoza type player, that kid is crazy fast.
Also if there's any way we can pry Gunner Stahl from iceland, we'd be unstoppable. I know they'd never let him go, but we have some good prospects coming up. You think Aberman, Julie the Cat, and a 2nd would do it?
Edit: Any relation between Connor Banks of Mystery Alaska and cake-eater Adam Banks of District 5?
They are good, for sure, but their D and goaltending is nowhere near where it was last year and their special teams are horrendous.
Their record is slightly better than how they've been playing, while they've been winning a ton of games, they've also been involved in a lot of really tight ones, and have blown some leads against teams they had no business doing poorly against. That said, they are still pretty darn good.
I think a team like LA or STL would have a good chance at taking them in a series this playoffs. Sure don't want to see them do well at all...
really frustrating time to be a redwings fan , i cant remember a time we been this bad , struggling so bad to score goals and yet we have so much talent on this team , seems lately were lucky if we score 2 goals in a game
And my personal opinion i been sayin for a year now we got too many 4th line type players(thats my nice way of saying garbage players)
cleary samuelsson bertuzzi eaves tootoo miller and now glendening
7 guys id consider 4th liners (not including andersson who id keep) thats way too many , we should be bringing up sheahan/ferraro/callahan guys who are out of waivers to see what they can do instead of bringing up another guy who's reliable but cant create any offense(glendening)
were so pathetic right now we call up a 20 yr old kid in jurco whos playing amazing in the ahl to try and help us out of this disaster (id personally keep him down and let him dominate why chance it and ruin his progress)
anyways all this to say i hope they wake the F up cause i cant remember a time we been this bad hope we turn this thing around
a bit off topic here but im also a cowboys fan so hasnt been a good night or season for that matter
Calling up Jurco had nothing to do with how "pathetic" the Wings are as a team, it has to do with the fact that they currently have injuries to Zetterberg, Weiss, Helm, Abdelkader, Franzen, etc. So let's not act like Jurco was called up as some savior for this team... the Wings have a pretty terrible injury situation right now, THAT is why these kids are getting called up, not some desperation stunt to save the season.
Holland specifically said "small herniated disc" which is at least somewhat encouraging based on everything I've heard about herniated discs.
Thank goodness Helm and Nyquist are already in the lineup and playing great. Franzen's play recently is a big help with Pav and Z out as well.
Even with the captain out, I'm not at all worried about leadership with all the vets on this team. Alfie will shine in that department.
Opportunity. This gives guys like Weiss, Cleary, Sammy a HUGE opportunity to step up and make a difference to this team. If they don't, they will be the guys gone (God willing) when the injured guys start coming back to the lineup. I know we all have low expectations of these guys at this point, but they have to step up and now they get as good of a chance as they can hope for.
I know it sounds odd, but in a weird way injuries were the best thing to happen to this team last season. It gives players opportunities to surprise and it also forces the team to play harder and hungrier than they are normally forced to play.
Our powerplay will make the Sens wish they had never been born. Oh, and Cowen, his stats WILL pay for this.
Vengeance is as sweet as the nectar of all the Gods of men!
Don't like what Shanny said at all. Makes it seem like they put no thought into the decision whatsoever.
“But we can’t always look into a crystal ball, and here we are a few days later and there’s a serious injury and no one feels worse, other than maybe Pavel and the Red Wings, than the department of player safety.’’
So he admits he screwed up... but only because Pavel hasn't come back yet? That, in a nutshell, is why these suspensions are so confusing to fans. They don't judge the actual incident, they only judge the result, which makes very, very little sense.
