#2018608 Red Wings Making Play for Modano

Posted by hooon on 23 July 2010 - 01:38 PM

Also I just wanted to point out that the 3rd line is going to be a scoring line this year with Hudler whether it's Modano, Helm, Abdelkader or whoever else. Last year it was a AHL line. Everybody's numbers are going to be a lot better this season with a healthy team.

Now I really am going outside. I don't want to end up with 20,000 posts on a message board, that's just all kinds of sad. No offense.

Cute. Every single person has proved that your unsupported arguments are completely off base and nonsensical, and your last resort is to insult us for using the same message board that you yourself are arguing on? Define sad for me, please.

And Helm is going backwards? He has had ONE season in the NHL. Going backwards would mean going to the AHL, which he is not doing.

It might behoove you to put some thought into your posts before putting them up for the world to see, that way you wont have to resort to insulting people when they point out how intellectually bankrupt your opinions are.

Edit: Posting ESPN articles to support your arguments does very little to add any validity to your cause.

How is Bissonnette racist for calling someone a communist? Communism isn't a race

Maybe they got it confused cause of the whole Red thing. Thats a color, and kind of like a race... right?

Free Biz!

I hate NHL's sensorship. Its basically an anti-honesty policy. In the case of Biz he was just a joker.

#2015877 Red Wings Making Play for Modano

Wow now it's a two yr deal? Quick someone tell Holland to go watch some games of his from last year. He doesn't have much left to give anymore. He certainly doesn't warrant pushing Helm down to the third 4th line. Helm would pot at least 15 goals this year with Hudler on his line IMO.

Hudler with Helm would do wonders for Helm's production... but what would it do to Hudler's? He certainly wouldn't hit that 50-60 point mark that he's expected to.

Modano is a better center and is much better offensively than Helm is right now. If its a 2 year deal I could almost realistically see Modano being the 3rd line center this next season, and then Helm taking over the season with Mikey down to the 4th.

And about us having too many forwards. For the nineteenth kabajilionth time.... people will be traded before the season starts. Its that simple. Holland signed them to create competition and retain assets for trades should we have any major holes that need be filled.

I'm pretty sure Holland has been watching plenty of games, thanks.

#2015297 The worst Hockey movie idea!

Posted by hooon on 15 July 2010 - 12:55 PM

Kevin Smith is going to produce/write/direct a hockey flick coming up .. i think hes filming it in Montreal

Indeed, a supposedly more "serious" flick compared to his other stuff. Starring Sean William Scott, aka Stiffler.

That musical looks... embarrassing.

Myself and some friends of mine are trying to produce a low budget biopic on either Sawchuk or the old Production Line. If you are a producer with lots of money, please PM me!

#2015266 Red Wings re-sign Derek Meech

Posted by hooon on 15 July 2010 - 11:56 AM

what a waste.

 how are people still not getting this? Stevekrause and others have explained it crystal clearly in multiple threads. People will be traded. There will be lots of competition for those last few spots. We will get assets in return for those who do not make the team. Holland is a genius.

#2014669 RUMOR: Wings Offer 1-year Contract to Maltby

Posted by hooon on 13 July 2010 - 08:14 PM

I'd rather have Maltby than Modano. With Modano I'm sure the team would feel pressure to at least give him 3rd line minutes. Maltby can play 8-10 minutes or can be a healthy scratch without complaints.

Lol if you are at all serious. Yes the team would feel pressure to give him 3rd line minutes, because that is exactly what he deserves. In what perverse world is Maltby better than Modano.

Guys this isn't the end of the world, relax, everything will be alright. Looks to me like just another depth signing, one to make competition, just like with Eaves, Miller and Meech. I don't see anywhere where it says he will be on the roster next season.

And besides, its just an offer. Maybe its too low for his interests? :hehe:

#2014518 Dan Carcillo re-signs with Philly 1 yr $1.075

Posted by hooon on 13 July 2010 - 03:38 PM

Carcillo isn't even close to a plug, he would be on our 3rd line in Detroit most likely. Shelley might not be in every game but Carcillo will be in almost every single one, fighting and scoring goals.

There is NO way he would ever be on our third line. MAYBE last year during december when our team was ravaged by injury would a guy like him be on the third line. Its true he's not a plug... but 3rd line in Detroit? Please.

#2014161 Sharks sign RFA Niklas Hjalmarsson

Posted by hooon on 12 July 2010 - 06:02 PM

Hjalmarsson is much more solid defensively than Kronwall though. 3.5 mil is a slight overpayment but it's not really outrageous at all. 2.5-3.0 mil would have been just right.

And to whoever said he's only been good one season, Hjalmarsson was one of Chicago's best players in the playoffs 2 years ago. Scotty Bowman himself couldn't stop praising him.

All I said was that he has only played one full season in the NHL. While its a skewed comparison in terms of skill, his situation could be reminiscent of Ericsson's, who was very highly touted a year ago after a great stint at the NHL level, but is now somewhat of a question mark. Not saying he'll falter, but you never know.

My point was that 1.5 seasons of good play isn't enough to warrent 3.5 million in salary, but hey, anything that makes their situaiton more complicated is good in my book, but if I'm them I'd rather keep Sharp over Hjalmarsson.

Everyone seems to be getting hung up on the number of players we have or will have signed once Helm, Abdelkader and Meech re-sign. Everyone should realize that the re-signing of Meech (and depending on what happens maybe even Miller) will be done to retain assets. If Modano, or another forward, can be signed at the moment we'd have 15 forwards going into camp. But that doesn't matter because someone would be moved. If Modano signs that most likely means Miller is moved/waived.

It's the same for a defenseman. If we pick up someone like McKee then Meech will be moved/waived.

Even when looking at our cap number ppl should realize there is wiggle room. You have to be cap complaint at the start of the season but while we attempt to sign another forward and a d-man I believe we can go over the cap by 10% in the summer. So say Modano is signed for $1M and then we move Miller our current cap number only increases by 350k.

So don't get hung up by roster size and the cap number. They're not true numbers until everything is set in stone - which isn't until opening day of the season.

This.

Dunno why everyone is so worried about having too many forwards. Holland has already said they would move people if need be. They will go to camp and compete for their jobs, the best players will get a spot. Whomever we don't need will get traded off... which means we get something in return for their services, rather than just letting them walk.

#2013208 Sharks sign RFA Niklas Hjalmarsson

Posted by hooon on 09 July 2010 - 01:58 PM

Lets call a spade a spade, for what they were handed by Tallon, they've actually done a pretty good job at least receiving picks for assets to fix the mess they were dealt... it's just SUCH a huge mess, there's no way to fix it outright... it's going to take time, but they are definitely doing a good job with the hand they were dealt...

I could maybe agree if they had been able to retain even ONE of Hjalmarsson, Ladd, Versteeg, Byfuglien... who else am I forgeting? They won the cup, and that counts for a hell of a lot, and no one can take that away, but still, I don't see how Stan Bowman has done anything remarkable. All of the picks they've aquired are not a result of great management, they were aquired in spite of bad management.

Having draft picks is nowhere near the same thing as having a cup-winning roster. I'd like to see the actual numbers, but how many picks/prospects actually pan out at the NHL level?

I also think its reasonable to believe that a good majority of those picks/prospects will eventually be traded again in the next several years when the Hawks finally have some cap and need to get some actual players, instead of the 1 year scrub contracts they will likely have next season.

itd be a big kick in the face to dallas if he doesnt retire with them. hes been there his whole career. but who knows

Umm... how is it a kick in the face to Dallas? THEY were the ones who said they didn't want him back. It was a kick in the face to Modano.

pretty hard to prove you can score at the nhl level when may and maltby are your linemates. Babcock also stated abby will be on the PK full time next year so GR is out of the question.

Abby did not only play with May and Maltby... in fact those two were not even in the lineup a lot of time. There was a point actually during the season where Abdelkader was our 2nd line center for a couple of weeks because of injuries.

He definitely needs to take a step forward in production, which is something he is totally capable of. Any PP time should accelerate that. I wouldn't mind keeping his GR options open, you never know what will happen.
