Something about Ahl just smells like a minor leaguer to me.

#2609663 Babcock says good-bye in full page ad. SIAP

Posted by LeftWinger on 22 May 2015 - 11:08 AM

Hopefully the first time TO is in Detroit, the organization puts together a nice presentation for him, so the fans can cheer and say goodbye.  Maybe just his picture on the scoreboard and announcer saying that the fans and team would like to thank him for 10 years of great hockey!  Crowd erupts, Babcock cries, then Mrazek shut's out the leafs....perfect night.

So does flipping Babcock for a 3rd from Toronto count as Hollands best trade the last coupe years?

Don't sleep on Phil the Thrill.  He may look like a custard filled eclair, but me moves like a god damn antelope.

Here's a fun thought.  My how the tables have turned.  Brendan Shanahan is now Mike Babcock's boss.  Awesome.
But seriously, how these two work together will be a key determinant in how well the Maple Leafs do in the future.
But something tells me that a Team President with above average influence, and a coach with above average influence, might not get along.  Especially if the two positions are filled by guys who have historically not gotten along.

Get Commodore in as assistant coach.

#2592937 Babcock: Petr Mrazek is starting Game 1

Posted by haroldsnepsts on 13 April 2015 - 01:10 PM

I don't know. Mraz just looked 100 times more comfortable out there and with his puck handling ability that does give us another D man on the back end. Howard touches the puck and you always think its going to get put into his own net like the Boston University Matt O'Connor did. Mraz just looks like he wants it more.

His puck handling I'll give you, but I disagree on the 100 times more comfortable.  And I don't know how you can tell who wants it more.  No matter how Jimmy is playing, one thing is for sure is that he's a fiery competitor.  I'm guessing he wanted to hang onto his starting job pretty badly.

I know Mrazek plays an aggressive style but there were games he was so overly aggressive he was taking himself way out of position.  And Mrazek has yet to put together a string of good performances.  Jimmy started turning his game around, had some good games and made huge saves, but then let in those brutally soft goals.

Neither one won the starting position.  It's basically a gamble of who will hopefully screw up less, or get it together in the postseason in a way they didn't manage to during the regular season.

Typical.  Another quality free agent signs to another team as a result of Ken Holland's inaction.  When will this joker's reign of terror end?!

Just kidding. I didn't see this thread this year, so I figured I'd make it. Go Wings!

As a moderator here, I'm just glad the Wings didn't announce the re-signing of Quincey and Cleary on the same day.

#2491692 Dear Mr Legwand

Posted by shoe on 06 March 2014 - 01:30 PM

Dear Mr Legwand
Welcome to Detroit.
I cant speak for all of us but I am very happy you waived your no trade to join the Red Wings. Some people here may not understand how much we need you. With four of our regular centers injured you have some big skates to fill. As a Veteran of many years you should be able to jump right in there. Maybe more so than some young high flying European.
I think you will do very well here, your brand of hockey that you have played for 15 years should fit with exactly what we will need to do to win games to get us in the playoffs. It may not be pretty but I'm sure Mike Babcock has a plan to shut down the opposition rather than outgun them.
You may not be the defence man we thought we were all going to get this trade deadline, but a 2 way speedy center in my mind is the closest and next best thing. Your defensive skills I'm sure will be relied on to keep the puck out of our net in the dying seconds of the game something we have watched our red wings have much trouble with this year.
As much as Patty Eaves, and Jarnkrok will be missed, I would at least like to welcome you as a fan to a player of the Red Wings.
Welcome aboard, Stay Healthy, have a fun run.

After reviewing the game we feel Cleary and samuelsson bring more to this team than that kid, what's his name? Number 14
