#2532647 'District Detroit': Red Wings' New Arena Details Released

Posted by wings4thecup06 on 20 July 2014 - 03:13 PM

Meh, add it to the list of all the other things that were supposed to transform Detroit:  Comerica Park, Ford Field, The SuperBowl, the All Star Game, the Casinos, the Cobo Expansion.  I'll believe it when I see it.  There was supposed to be a big entertainment and housing expansion with Comerica and Ford Field, too.

Not getting all the affection for Joe Louis Arena.  That place was a dump even before it opened.  It was totally thrown together without much thought.

So what is wrong with the Joe in your opinion?

I may have a slightly biased sentiment in the fact that obviously I'm a Wings fan and I saw my first hockey game there, but there isn't much I can say I don't like about it. The sightlines are way better than the other NHL rinks i've seen games at (ACC and Centre Bell), the standing room is the best in the league, the concourse and the general place has this old school atmosphere that makes me get really amped up for the game, and I don't know if i'm the only one, but I really really love walking up those steps before you enter the building.

Yes it's crowded as hell in the concourses and bathrooms, it's old, it doesn't look that aesthetically pleasing from the outside for some, the seats are worn, but frankly, I couldn't care less. I'd take a building like the Joe that has a million times more character than a septic, cold brand spanking new rink anyway.

Now, that's not to say that the new building will be like all the other ones that have been built. And after seeing and reading about the plans today, I'm definitely excited. But I will definitely miss being right on top of the action for sure.

#2507512 The Niklas Kronwall Appreciation Thread

He wasn't right after that hit.  He wasn't holding the puck in like he usually does.  Even I was speaking to the screen, and I'm a fan of his.

Aside from that, he's awesome.  He's a leader.  Even if he isn't Kronwalling like he did back in the day, his game is growing.  He plays intelligently.  He's deserving of an appreciation thread.

#2491290 Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

Posted by Shaman on 05 March 2014 - 07:53 PM

There's definitely half a pint of beer in the pint glass: wether it's half full or half empty is up to you.

I'm going with half full. A playoff season missed does not help Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan, Andy, Weiss , Jurco, and Smith gain valuable playoff experience. Legwand helps us get by until the Calvary returns, then once the playoffs begin, as we saw last year, all bets are off. If healthy, we've actually got a damn good lineup.

Somehow, with no top 20 picks since 1991, our prospects managed to win the Calder Cup and produce the Butterfield winner . Jarnkrok is no Pulkkinen, and it's not like we don't have guys in the pipeline ahead and behind him.

Again if mediocrity is okay with you, fine. For me I look at this team and ask two questions:

Can this team seriously compete for a Stanley Cup? If yes great. If not then I ask:

Has the team increased it's ability to compete for one in the future.

This trade doesn't make this team a serious cup contender, and it has hurt the team long term.

For a team that's struggled a bit 5-on-5, and for a guy that matches up vs top lines night in and night out, that +12 rating is impressive.

He's sniffing Norris finalist type numbers right now.

#2437701 So....did Cleary just take Tatar's spot?

Welp, Holland just openly said on TV that Tatar will be on the roster. Case closed.

Only the Hawks would have a song about a hooker for the goal song.

Reminds them of their moms.

#2420722 Grand Rapids Griffins Win Calder Cup! 5-2 win in game 6

He had 16 goals in the playoffs.

16 goals in only 24 games that's insane! He will be a Red Wing next year If I have to pick him up from Grand Rapids and drive him to Detroit myself!

#2416939 Who Do You Want to Win the Cup?

Posted by Wings_Dynasty on 01 June 2013 - 09:49 PM

I vote Boston because:

1. I hate Chicago and their "fans" who think their team is a legit dynasty even though most of them can't name who was captain before Toews.

2. I hate Pittsburgh, their fans, Crosby, Malkin, Iginla, and the homerism of NBC.

3. I don't want another team to win back-to-back Cups unless it's the Wings.

And the city of Boston could use some good feelings.
