#2586306 Is A First Round Exit Imminent?

Posted by anthonyn66 on 28 March 2015 - 05:37 PM

Does anyone remember both in the 2008 and 2009 seasons when we went through absolutely terrible stretches towards the end of the season? Especially 2009 when the Ozzie/Conklin tandem was just awful? How about last year when the kids carried our team into the playoffs and disappeared after?

All I'm saying is that the last stretch isn't as big of an indicator as we think.

#2577644 Red Wings acquire Marek Zidlicky from NJ for Cond. 2016 3rd Round Pick

Posted by anthonyn66 on 02 March 2015 - 02:17 PM

Smith is not bad enough to sit. Marchenko/Ouellet will get sent down. Besides, if they want to trade Smith, making him a healthy scratch a bunch of times doesn't help his value.

#2576978 Red Wings acquire Erik Cole, conditional 3rd from Stars

Posted by anthonyn66 on 01 March 2015 - 09:21 PM

Detroit got a top 6 forward and gave up a second and two prospects, not even our elite ones

Janmark is good, but we're so deep down the middle it doesn't matter a whole lot

Backman would be behind Sproul, Hicketts, Ouellet, Marchenko anyway so who cares

What matters to me is we kept Mrazek Mantha Larkin AA XO Sproul and Marchenko which is awesome

#2538156 TSN Luke Schenn could be available

Luke Schenn?? Are you guys nuts?

#2533600 Candiens, P.K. Subban agree to 8 year contract

Posted by anthonyn66 on 03 August 2014 - 07:43 AM

Subban shoulda gotten 8, he's not better than Doughty/Weber although he benefits from having a Norris to his name

The comparisons to the Kane/Toews deal are sort of valid, but at the same time, let's keep in mind that Kane and Toews are two of the most popular, recognizable players in the NHL.Chicago has the biggest bandwagon fanbase in the NHL and if you lose Captain Serious and Kaner, you lose a whole bunch of revenue.

Montreal likes Subban but they'll always have a fan base and it wouldn't be the end of the world if they lost him.

#2530808 2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades

Posted by anthonyn66 on 09 July 2014 - 12:30 PM

Toews and Kane signed identical 8 year, $10.5M contracts...

Anyone else feel that the Hawks could be screwed cap wise in the near future?...

People have been saying this for years...

Side note

Blashill sounds exactly like Babcock in interviews..

#2529828 Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

Posted by anthonyn66 on 03 July 2014 - 04:17 PM

I've seen Datsyuk's rookie highlight reel a bunch of times, and after watching Tatar's, I will be royally pissed if they trade him. The reels are very similar: a bit worse defensively, same shifty moves, a harder shot, both great in corners, and plays with a lot of heart. He's no "soft euro".

#2526050 Wings to have face to face with Matt Niskanen

Posted by anthonyn66 on 27 June 2014 - 07:45 AM

I don't understand how people are willing to pay a premium for Boyle but cringe on the money for a guy like Niskanen ? Every contract holds some risk yes, Niskanen is coming off his best year but it's not like he has been horrible before the guy knows how to move the puck and how to play a solid defensive game. If you have to overpay him by about 0,5kk you do it, especially with our top 4...

The difference is Boyle will sign for 2 years while Niskanen will sign for 7, with the kids we have in the system that's not great

Marchenko and Sproul are probably a year away while Ouellet I'd say is ready. Look at the Kings, Bruins and Blackhawks, They have great defensive depth and most of it came from within. I think our system lets us do that and IMO we'd be better off with a proven veteran (who Babcock coached) who can help the kids for a couple years vs a guy coming off one spectacular season.

#2525653 Alfie informs Wings he wants to return

Posted by anthonyn66 on 25 June 2014 - 09:01 AM

No problems with this signing. For him to want to come back with the role he played last year (PP and 3rd/4th line) is admirable and says everything about his character, especially considering he went from being captain the year before.

#2523974 Wings sign Tomas Nosek to 2 year entry level deal

Posted by anthonyn66 on 15 June 2014 - 07:55 PM

I don't get why people were calling Brunner a bust. Signs on a contract that's cheap as s*** and produces very, very respectable numbers without any kind of NHL/AHL development beforehand. He doesn't sign with us after because he wanted more money and it didn't work out for him, but the bottom line is we got him for a year on an ELC and he helped our team immensely. Not a waste at all.

#2522931 Dan Boyle's rights traded to the Islanders…..

Posted by anthonyn66 on 05 June 2014 - 05:51 PM

I'm going to disagree with you guys and say that he's the kind of short term solution the Wings need before guys like Sproul and Ouellet are #3/4 dmen... he signs for 2 years at 5 a year under a familiar coach and mentors the kids (some North American leadership)

Let's not forget that Boyle is a pretty rugged player, at 38 he played more games than most of the Wings roster last year..

#2515696 ECQF - Game 4 - Bruins 3 at Red Wings 2 (F/OT)

Posted by anthonyn66 on 25 April 2014 - 01:07 AM

Hey guys

I'm from Toronto

Guess who came a period away from overcoming a 3-1 deficit last year?

Also get Xavier Ouellet up here on the third pairing, he could probably help PP unit #2 as well
