This hits the nail on the head......

I think you're missing my point entirely. It's 2016. By the time next season is in full swing it will be 2017. 10 years removed from 2007. Even if you want to argue we were contenders between 2010 and 2013 (which I would say we were not since the results were embarrassed by the sharks and almost swept, almost swept by the sharks again, embarrassed and almost swept by the preds in the first round, and choking away a 3 - 1 lead against the blackhawks,) That will be four years ago. Four years is an eternity in professional sports. Guys forget about what happened in the distant past. Look at the here and now. The ship is sinking. It has been sinking for a long time. At some point you have to hold leadership responsible. You can't keep looking to the captain and saying "Well he lead us on some successful voyages a long time ago!". Or let me ask the question this way: Are you happy with how our season ended this year? What about last year? The year before? What about the one before that one? What about every year going back to 2010? How many of those are you happy with the outcome? The answer should be 0.

Guys the salary cap is still an excuse? EVERY TEAM in the league has to deal with the same damn salary cap. Also he has had eleven years to adjust to it. ELEVEN. You can't keep signing this horrible contracts and making horrible moves and blaming it on the salary cap. That's just ridiculous.

Oh great. So not only is it bad enough the tax payers have to shell out half the money (of which they won't see a cent of profit), but now He doesn't have to pay taxes on it either? That would be an outrage. Hypothetically of course idk how the details play out.

Hold on Hold on. We are 11 (ELEVEN) years removed from the Salary cap being institutied. We are 5 years removed from Rafalski retiring. We are 4 years removed from Suter signing with the Wild. Are people seriously still trying to throw up these excuses? That's pathetic. If you can't adjust to something in 4 years you failed. Period. Let alone 11 years. That's a joke. We haven't realistically competed for a cup since 09. That's now SEVEN YEARS. Expecting a team to compete for a cup once in 7 years is not asking too much nor does it make us "spoiled fans". You want to know what fan base is happy just making the playoffs? The Maple Leaves. Is that who you want to be?

I guess I didn't properly convey what I mean. Most stadiums are named after banks and financial institutions. While they aren't athletic they aren't anti athletic eitther. Neutral if you will. A big fat greasy cheesy pizza is about as anti athletic as you get.

But that's kind of the point. If for example Comerica bought the naming rights people might be annoyed but everyone could understand becasue they would have had to have dumped a battleship full of money onto Mr. I's front yard. This is simply shuffling money from one of Mr. I's companies to another. He's not making any money by doing this. Sure you could say there's a gain in marketing but I'd argue it's completely negligible anyway becasue who the hell around here doesn't know about Little Caesars already. It's so incredibly self centered for such little gain. Here was a chance really rally the fan base around something and instead he sold out to himself for a marginal marketing effect. No one is surprised by the decision, and of course he but that doesn't make it any less offensive to us. This is also ignoring the fact that half of the stadium comes from publicly funded money (I could be wrong though) so why should he get to profit off of the taxpayers capital without their consent? And also ignroing the fact of the gigantic bait and switch with the roof again for marginal corporate gain. And also ignoring the fact IT'S A FREAKING MEDIOCRE PIZZA CHAIN. NOTHING ATHLETIC ABOUT IT.

The corporate sponsor aspect is bad enough. But when you hear the words "little caesers" what is the first thing that comes to your mind? A rich history of tradition and a commitment to excellence? Hard hitting in your face action? Skill speed and agility that will leave your breathless? No. The first thing that comes to your head is a ****ing gooey fattening greasy pizza.

I don't know anyone expects the wings to be taken seriously when they go to play at the Little Caesers Arena. Let's just refer to it as Red Wings Arena.

I'm not surprised. And yet I am so thoroughly disappointed...

At What Point Does Holland Deserve Blame?

Boston fired their gm and there's a very good chance they will fire their coach too. Just making the playoffs isn't good enough for them. The penguins fired their gm and coach last year for underachieving and let's not forget they have won the cup more recently than us as well as making it past the second round more recently than us. The Kings just won a cup last year so their situation isn't really comparable. They are allowed a free pass. But I bet if they miss the post season again next year there will be another gm and head coach vacancy. The point is other franchises don't accept making the playoffs as good enough. We shouldn't either. Over half the teams make the playoffs. Just making it means you're little better than average. We're 6 years removed now from a deep post season run. Think about where you were 6 years ago and how much has changed since then. It's a long time. And it's an eternity in sports. Holland had made plenty of great moves yes. But he's also made plenty of bad ones also and he deserves a good amount of the blame for our post season failures since after all it's his job to run the team and everyone ultimately answered to him. Does that mean we fire him now? No. But the seat should start to be heating up at this point. You only get so many free passes.
