I think its going to take a miracle for Holland to let go of anyone his like a little kid who cant decided which one of his favorite toys to put in the donation box its just to hard for him

Great analogy.  I think this is a very accurate assessment of how Holland has approached signing in the last few years.  To take is a step further, he won't let go of his new toys, because the last one he gave away (Hossa) ended up being the coolest toy on the block, while he was stuck holding a toy that was constantly breaking (Franzen).  Additionally, he has an extremely restrictive sense of nostalgia. He knows some of the toys are beyond repair (Cleary), but he can't bring himself to give it away because they remind him of better days; even though letting go would ultimately make him happy. Lastly, there are toys that he over payed for and refuses to acknowledge was a bad decision (Quincey).

I think what makes the analogy so apt is that it brings to mind how childish Holland is being.  He needs to make difficult decisions, but is acting like a scared, selfish child.

anybody know were to find some wallpaper worthy shots of the full Big House?

I would think there would be a ton of great high resolution pictures, but surprisingly they are hard to find.  These aren't up to my standard for wallpaper, but I love the colors in these photos.

Here is a picture I took from my seat.  Not bad for a cell phone.

That's fewer than I'd thought. BUT, I think we'd have to go beyond just the number, not necessarily to suit my case against Quincey but because I'm actually genuinely interested. Like, How many of those 21 goals against were scored in very close losses? If the answer is not many, maybe Quincey really isn't all that bad for the team. Or maybe we just need higher quality statsification.

Maybe I'll look into it tomorrow.

The other factor I forgot to consider is that power kill goals against do not count towards +/-, so it is probably much worse than this.

Another stat I would love to see, but would be hard to calculate, would be what is how many goals against occur when Quincey and Cleary are on the ice together? Quincey and Smith?

In terms questioning whether it's coincidence or if he is the problem, just watch him during the games.  Next to Cleary he is the laziest player on the ice.  I do not just mean he is slow.  Quincey is lazy in every aspect of the game, failing to make plays, and relies heavily on his line-mates.  He does everything really half-assed.

Can someone do a fancy stats report on how many goals against and standings points Quincey has cost us this season? And maybe throw in Smith, since they're partners in crime.

I added it all up. He's been on the ice for 21 goals against this season. I think it's shockingly low, but I wouldn't be surprised if he screwed up a line change and allowed more goals than the stats indicate (a.k.a. "The Cleary Special")

Why be tasteless?

Dan Cleary is the only completely blameless person in this pathetic display.

I do not disagree, but every point Cleary is able to scrap together is justification for his resigning.  I fully realize thinking like this is simply spiteful, but his ass clogging the roster is inexcusable with how many talented, young guys are trapped in Grand Rapids.

It is one thing to protect veterans like Chelios and Lidstrom, who work day in and day out, giving 100%, and making smart plays.  It is a totally different situation with an average player who continued to show declining skill, careless play, and lazy skating.

That's why you blame Cleary. It spiteful and disgusting, but he is the face of a broader management problem which does not recognize the "old" and "veteran" are completely different things.

Pretty soon we'll only have three lines and Cleary will be on all of them.

First time I read this I laughed...but then I realized it wasn't a joke...

Or maybe Babcock sees something in Cleary that we don't because we're too focused on his faults.  Maybe it's something that you can only see if you work with the guy day in and day out.

You know... kind of like how you can't understand why your friend dates the ugly fat chick, but then you get to know her and you find that she's a lovely, kind, gracious, caring person with a great sense of humour and her dad owns a brewery.

You make a good point, but I think this analogy is probably more apt:

You can't understand why your friend dates the ugly fat chick.  You get to know her and  you find out that her personality is also polar to your friend', and is even occasionally abusive.  She is extremely high maintenance and she is constantly guilting him into staying with her, despite the stress she brings to his life.  You confront your friend and he makes some excuses, but you read between the lines and conclude that she is really awesome at sex; the best he has ever had.  While she can never give your friend true happiness, he is content with putting up with the abuse so long as his member is getting serviced at professional levels.

MEANWHILE: A young attractive, nice, but naive woman comes along.  Your friend and her hit if off. But she was a virgin when they met and he becomes frustrated with teachering her.  Despite being a better personality match, he continues to stay with the first girl despite the long term benefits of giving this new girl attention.

I hope this story comes off as funny not mean, 55fan. I really think you're point is valid.  I think Babcock should be more open about his reasonings.  There is no way he doesn't hear the outcry from fans; Cleary bashing has been going on for so long.  If he can present a argument that does not involve his veteran status or statistics, I would listen.
