“So what am I supposed to do now?” an anonymous coach asked the QMI Agency. “Do I call the ref over and call timeout so I can call (league vice-president of hockey operations) Colie Campbell and ask him who I can put on the ice?”
We don't know what the Wings actually offered him. And you best believe he would of signed with the Wings over the Devils if Holland would of called him up a week ago and gave him the same offer. 2.5 million is a discount considering how he actually performed last season, and is a HUGE discount considering his potential. The Wings missed the boat on this one.
It makes no sense really. Brunner has a much higher ceiling than Weiss, and they gave him 5 milllion a season. What a joke. I'll bet you $20 Brunner gets more points than Weiss this season.
LOL, so let me get this straight
Brunner turns the Wings down hours before the Free Agent period begins, at least two reported offerings.
The Wings then go ahead and fill out their roster, are more active in the FA market than they have been in years.
The Wings replace Fil with Weiss, you know center for center, then get Alfie (btw a guy that had nearly the same stats as Brunner, only able to show a track record of success).
All the while Brunner is holding out for a multi year deal and top 6 minutes.
By the time he decides to take an offer that is Identical to the one that is reported he turned down HOURS before FA period began, the Wings are over the cap and roster limit, yet you want Holland to offer him that deal.
Brunner is the reason Brunner is not on this team, well maybe his agent, either way the person responsible is not Ken Holland.
I will also take that $20 bet, so would Holland, most of the NHL, and probably half of this board.
Weiss put up better numbers than Brunner all while being the Panthers only legit threat.
Sure Brunner put up similar points to Weiss's NHL numbers but he did in the Swiss league, not exactly known for Defense and goaltending.
But like I said Weiss was a center and brought in to replace Fil not Brunner, so when we look at Alfie's numbers 10g and 16a, the compare nicely to Brunner's 12g and 14a.
Alfie is a one year no risk deal, Brunner wanted a multi year high risk deal (think Brunnstrum, Leino).
Brunner was great to start the season, then like a typical rookie lost momentum when the league figured him out.
He played barely more than one half of one season.
If he wanted to be a Wing he had ample opportunities, he wanted ice time and multi years.
Brunner and his agent are the reason he is not a Wing.
But in an offseason where KH was more active than he has been in a long time, some people just need a reason to bash him.
Wish I could have that 10 minutes of my life back. I almost stopped reading when I saw her use the word Douchenozzle. Watch that will be censored here on a forum where it has more right to be than in an article, even if only on a blog.
What a waste, I mean I get the point, 29 teams to hate, she wasn't going to say nice things.
In TSN's top hockey stories of the 2011-2012 season, they ranked the deaths of Lokomotiv, alongside those of the three NHL players who had died from various causes earlier in the summer, at #2... behind Crosby's concussion.
Many angry words were uttered.
See, now these are the types of things that make me like Crosby less.
NOT HIS FAULT, I get that, but when he is being thrown down my throat as the top Hockey story all the time, whether or not coffee gives him the runs, or is he allergic to poison ivy (Exaggerations I know) take precedent over legit stories.
I just can't help but be annoyed and tired of hearing his name!
I think 85% of the hate he gets would never had started had the league not rammed him down our collective throats.
The summer of 11-12 was a devastating one for the Hockey World, I hope nothing of the like happens ever again.
I know Abby finally started to play well on the top line. But let's be real, he's def not a top line guy. He should be on an energy/grit line. And even though Big Bert has had some injury issues, his chemistry with Pavel far exceeds Abby's. Hope Babcock goes with these lines.
I think this is a case of the sum being greater than it's parts.
Homer on his own wasn't a top 6 forward, but what he did as far as net front presence and puck retrieval made that line very good for a number of years.
While I think it will take Abby a few seasons ,if ever, to develop a net front presence (some guys never do). His puck retrieval skills are very good, I also think this is why Cleary saw so much time with Dats.
It's been reported that the two sides have been discussing an eight-year, maximum term contract but have failed to find common ground on the annual compensation of such an agreement. TSN's Bob McKenzie indicates that Pietrangelo's camp is looking for a $7 million annual average value, while the Blues are looking for something closer to $6 million.
(Did I just hijack my own thread??)
EDIT: To Hijack even further, Mac (Dang it, it is Mac and Andy strickland reporting it) is also reporting that they may bring in Ryan Whitney in case they are unable to reach a deal with Alex:
“Told him if he wasn't ultra-competitive he couldn't come here. If he didn't bring it every day he couldn't come here, because he was going to hate it if he didn't, dislike the coach and dislike playing here.
“It's real straightforward. If you don't do it right, you're not happy here.''
Now if Babs could just have that meeting with 93 that would be great!
