#2434788 Good things happening in Detroit

Posted by Opie on 03 September 2013 - 07:44 AM

I am one of the coordinators of this event.

We organized the entire thing in only 3 days, so I doubt that any of the players were even aware it was taking place.

We are very grateful to have the Wings organization for the smoke detector donation.

I like this posts, just because you are helping out!

#2434478 Teemu Selanne to return for a final season

Posted by Opie on 30 August 2013 - 04:02 PM

I will believe this is his last season when he retires officially after whichever season ends up as his last and then doesn't stage a mid season comeback!

Edit this man still has the best goal celebration ever with this one:

#2432840 NHL to takeover of NJ around the corner?

Posted by Opie on 08 August 2013 - 01:09 PM

The solution is simple.

Step 1: lockout to stop big contracts and teams not sharing revenue

Step 2: sign the same huge contracts right after lockout ends

step 3: ???

Step 4: profit...

You forgot step 5, repeat the process in less than 10 years!

#2430832 Fedorov: ‘We had the chance’ to bring Datsyuk to KHL

“Unfortunately for us, Pavel extended his contract with Detroit,” Fedorov told Russian news outlet R-Sport. “I had a meeting with him a few days before the signing.

“We had the chance to get Pavel in a year’s time, but as a person who knows what the NHL is all about, I understand perfectly well why he did what he did.”

#2430381 Maple Leafs plan cup parade?

Posted by Opie on 16 July 2013 - 03:14 PM

Thats exactly  what you get, when you are hiring guys in suits that don't love the sport nor have any passion for tradition. I also like their team but parts of the fanbase and ownership is just arrogant. This guy basically wants to erase a part of the tradition their, what an awful awful thing to do. It is hard for me to imagine players liking this at all.

Can you imagine if this were done in Det?

You think Holland gets some s*** now, imagine if the first thing he did was plan a parade and take down the Howe statue?

He would be hung in front of the Joe!

#2430350 Maple Leafs plan cup parade?

WOW!

Listen I get that move with a team with no history, the Panthers, even TBL that has a cup and a little history.

But you are talking about the franchise with the 2nd most cups, O6, long standing tradition and a fan base like that of the Cubs and Red Sox (before the championships).

IMO, you don't just walk in a tear down the history like this is some MLS club that has only been around for about 10 years.

I will be interested to see how long this lasts!

#2430342 Datsyuk Interview

A lot of this has to do with the interviewer.

I don't think Pierre gets the same gold from him.

Wow the definition of balls:

In Leiweke's opinion, expecting success is a key component to achieving it. That's why he has already planned out a Maple Leafs Stanley Cup Championship parade, via the Washington Post:
"I have it planned out and it's going to be fantastic," Leiweke said yesterday in his first interview since taking over the Toronto-based sports group, which owns the city's National Hockey League franchise, as well as the Raptors basketball team and Major League Soccer's Toronto FC. While employees at MLSE were a little shocked he mentioned winning the Stanley Cup so soon after starting the job on June 3, Leiweke said the company has to focus on results. If you can all dream about that and get that in your mind, we'll have something we're all driven toward," he said he told them.

#2430301 Datsyuk Interview

Straight Pavel gold:

Henrik Zetterberg was named team captain this season. How did he transition to being the captain?

“How? He cut out the letter “C” and stitched it on to his jersey, that’s how.

Gold Jerry, GOLD!

#2430297 Best Hitter on the Team

Posted by Opie on 16 July 2013 - 09:51 AM

Abby nearly double Tootoo's hit total, probably TOI as well.

But Abby ends up out of position less.

So I guess defining "Best" would be important.

Is best to you hardest?

Does being taken out of position by the hit make a difference to you?

Does total amount of hits matter to you?

Best is a term that leaves a lot of subjectivity.

#2430127 Ilya Kovalchuk announces retirement

Pavel Datsyuk is not stupid..

NO he is not, but boy does he play dumb well.

#2429984 Henrik and Pavel

Posted by Opie on 14 July 2013 - 08:38 AM

I think Hank and Dats are great players, not on par with Feds skill wise.

I think Hank and Dats are greater Red Wings than Feds, if that makes sense.

I think none of them belong in the rafters at the Joe.

Look at the last two names put up there, all world players and leaders, and two of the greatest Wings ever.

People forget not only was Yzerman the heart and soul of this organization, he has over 1700 points.

This is not Colorado or Buffalo, simpy being a great player and leader does not get you in the rafters, you need to be one of the best Wings of all time.

Unfortunately for Hank and Dats, they are in that class one step below that!

IMO

#2429732 Bergeron gets 8 yr extension

Posted by Opie on 12 July 2013 - 11:40 AM

Bergeron is the heart and soul of that team.

Chara is the leader, Thornton as well is a vet leader.

Bergeron is the identity of the team though, his defense first approach is exactly what Julien preaches, he is probably Claude's ideal forward.

His post season play was spectacular, he deserves all of this especially playing through the punctured lung!

He will be 36 when the contract ends, he is in his prime, has been with the team since he was 18.

I am not a fan of 8 year deals, but if their is a max contract player in that group of forwards it is Patrice.

IMO
