Watch, this circumvention will be the new sticking point for the next lockout!

#2429708 So.. what are our expectations for this roster?

Posted by Opie on 12 July 2013 - 09:38 AM

Same expectations as every year, playoffs and at least the second round.

That would be good, a great year would be ECF.

Anything after ECF is gravy and I cannot complain!

I have always maintained that conference finals in any sport is a fantastic year for the teams I root for!

Yep, The Turk is dead, and so is the guy who killed him.

It's a Sicilian message. It means Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes.

NJ won't be paying him until then, they'll have a cap penalty.   I would assume that if he were to decide to come back though, the NHL will consider his contract with the Devils still valid so he would not be a UFA.

Good point, since he retired he will not be getting paid.

Brain fart on my part!

#2429508 Dominic Moore Coming back with Rags

Your wife sounds like a lucky lady, Opie! :)

No, quite the opposite, I am batting out of my league without a doubt!

#2429506 Smith files for arbitration

I actually said "people talk about him like he's hopeless," which isn't the same as "someone said he was hopeless."

But his play was described as "indifferent" which several people agreed with.  Then there was talk of him having a big ego.  You alluded to him "sucking doorknobs."

None of which makes sense to me.  He was a rookie trying to play big minutes in key situations and his inexperience showed.  Inconsistent, absolutely.  Indifferent?  No.

I agree if anything I think he was in over his head trying to learn the NHL game while playing big minutes, I think he was trying too hard.

Indifferent, no way in hell!

Sounds like the nephtuzzi has some sandpaper to him. Love it! Hopefully he's also got some hockey skills to back it up--would love to see him annoying the s*** out of the other teams in a few years.

Edit: and hopefully he'll be the only Bertuzzi on the team at that time.

If he is half the player Todd was before the Moore incident he will be a very good NHLer!

not sure if the folks on here want bergeron. he isn't big and doesn't fight.

Bergereon fought this post season didn't he?

#2429429 Brunner Contract Talks

Posted by Opie on 11 July 2013 - 09:17 AM

Can we stop saying Brunner has played a "Season", it was a lockout shortened half season, in which he had issues with consistency.

Not saying he wasn't succesful, just that he struggled in a 48 game lockout shortened season!

The Boston media his horrible probably the WORST in the whole USA, followed by Philadelphia. I always thought Toronto had by far the worst but I guess Boston is really catching up to them which is not a positive. Wouldn't be surprised if Bergeron decides to walk and sign in a more quiet enviroment like Horton did.

This 100 xs this!

#2429410 Bruins Re-Sign Rask for 8yr, 7m AAV

There is a lot of homers in the media here, and none of them are happy about this deal.

Many people are very skeptical about the 8 years.

They all admit he is worth the 7mil, but they are very very worried about the term.

They also do not seem worried about fitting Bergie (as he is being called) under the cap.

I really wonder if they are going to spend lots of money on top end talent and not have enough for the vet leaders like a Shawn Thornton or Chis Kelly. Although Bergereon is quite the leader himself.

Last week the media was all happy to have Seguin gone, new week and they are worried about the lack of youth on this team!

Between the fickle fair weather fans and media in this area I would never want to play for a Boston team.

On your way in you are a character guy with flaws that can be fixed by "this locker room", on your way out you are a horrible person and every secret the team hid from the media and fans is released in about 3 days.

Look at how they destroyed Terry Francona on his way out, and that guy was/is a legend still in this area!

BTW: I would love Bergereon on the Wings, great character guy, and easily one of the top 3 defensive forwards in the game!

He joined the B's as a very young kid and has played exceptionally, I still remember the commercials he did with Raycroft when he was about 20. Shy kid, with a good personality!

#2429041 Brunner Contract Talks

Posted by Opie on 09 July 2013 - 02:21 PM

Yah yah. Heard all this last year.

Last year Helm was not healthy, so the team was short a center, that changes things drastically.

Emmerton filled a gap admirably, but if Helm comes back Emmerton will be the odd man looking in, IMO!

#2428818 Question about Buying out Samuelsson

Posted by Opie on 08 July 2013 - 02:46 PM

I was an unashamed Sammy supported.

Right up until this last signing.

Before this last go 'round I thought he was a responsible and decent player.

He did what was asked and played hard.

This last signing was baffling to me, I still believe Holland to be the best GM in the league, but the pick up of Bert and Sammy had me scratching my head.

#2427590 Dan Cleary Watch

Posted by Opie on 05 July 2013 - 05:31 PM

Please try and remember that the Wings are now offering the money Brunner turned down to Cleary, they are not waiting on Cleary to make a decision on Brunner.

That way your life may have a little less stress in it.

Again,

Brunner turned the Wings' offer down to test the market, the Wings made at least one offer of 3 years to Brunner.

This is not new news either, he turned them down before noon!
