#2187176 Lidstrom agrees to 1-year, $6.2m contract

Posted by Opie on 20 June 2011 - 10:46 AM

Does this mean I can buy a Nick jersey now? :P

Beautiful, that post is all WIN!

He's worth 100 million, IMO, but take a home team discount for his presumably final year like Stevie did! For the greater good!

Stevie was a fraction of his former self, he was playing 3rd/4th line role.
I love the guy, but he was no longer a point per game player, not saying he wasn't good, and that he wasn't still the best Red Wing Ever, IMO, but there was a dip in performance and some very tough injuries. Steve was a warrior no doubt and played with a ton of heart through a ton of pain that would have forced others to retire.

Conversely Lids is still (depending on your opinion) a or the top defenseman in the game, put up 62 points, granted his plus minus was atrocious and the worst of his career, but he was a Norris Candidate, and IMO was the best D-man in the game this season. He is still the top D man on this team, soon that will be Kronwall, but for now it is Lids.

He deserves to be paid the most on the team, he is still the team MVP, again he just played a full season, he has now played 76+ games in every season of his career except 94-95.

Lids will never replace Yzerman as the greatest Wing of all time, however he deserves to be paid more than Stevie did at the end of their careers.

As soon as that happened, I jumped up off my couch and yelled "BOOOOOM *****!!"

My wife wasn't too thrilled since she was napping. Hopefully she didn't think I was talking to her...

I know your pain, my wife is pregnant and sleeping all of the time (She normally sleeps a ton, but now even more), we have a 600 sq foot house(anyone want to over pay for a small house in NH?), needless to say I have learned to hold my excitement long enough to get outdoors and let the screams rip.

Game 4 however, Helm caught me a little off guard and I may have woken up my wife, my unborn, the dog, the neighbor, the fish in the lake across the street.

This time however I was in the pisser and missed it. The replay was not as scream inducing!

#2170085 Howard......

I find it hilarious that the Sharks are about as close to a mirror image of the Wings as you can get. They even stopped paying high priced Goalies.
But the funny part is that what has bit the Wings in the ass sooooooo many times (a Hot Tender) could bite them in the ass, even though they are outplaying the Wings.

If you want to copy the mold, all weaknesses come with it.

The problem with Threads like this (and I have made them) is the people you intend to read it will not. The lunatic fringe that wanted Howard executed, wanted Nick to lose the C, wanted Pavel traded, think Z is done. All of those guys, if they even read this thread are not going to post.

The other problem is people who were legitimately worried about Howie, think you are calling them out.

These threads are never as fulfilling as you would have hoped they would be.

Having said that, I am very happy with Howard, he is exceeding every single one of my expectations.

I wouldn't say he has stolen games, but his first period play (while the rest of the team wakes up, except gm 4) has kept them in this series.

Good on you Howie!

I could however see Tampa making a play for him.

He would be a very good pick up for them.
They could do a lot worse than Bryz in TB, he would make an already decent team very good.
IMO they are already better than PHO.

Am I the only one that thinks Helm and Eaves make Draper look 5 years younger?

yes. i have been a member on these boards since the 99-00 season. no one is registered before 02 because the boards went down that year and everyone had to re-register.

Me too, although I think it was the 2000 part of the season that I found the place.
This place has been the bomb, for awhile this place was so filled with in depth knowledge, not opinion which the board is filled with now (not saying good or bad as this is my opinion right here).

I was expecting to see Stevie eat that one in the eye, but that was 03 or 04?

#2151922 Speaking of Playing Through Pain...

So I am sitting here with Chuck Norris, we watched that and one single solitary tear fell from his eyes.
He said takes this and save a child from cancer. But the tear was so heavy I could not carry it!

Then he showed me his Yzerman tattoo that had the words "My Hero" underneath it, not only that but when he lifted his shirt the song "My Hero" by Foo Fighters played from his chest.

Ok in all seriousness, awesome commercial.
That run was unbelievable, and without Stevie the team never makes it out of the first round.

Just my Patrick Kane...

First off:

I think in a year like this where there is no stand out candidate it becomes an award given on "outside merit".

For example, sometimes awards are given as more of a life time achievement than on the true merits of the award.
Sometimes they are given to right past wrongs.

I think this year Lids gets it because he is one of the best in the game still, and this would cement his name in the record books with Doug Harvey. Could be his last year (I personally don't think so), give it to him he deserves it, and to tell you the truth, who is the better defenseman in the league right now?

Yandle or Visnovsky? Would you say either of those guys is decidedly better than lids?
Chara? doubt it, he is not getting any votes out of the Mon area.

#2127502 Chara's hit on Pacioretty

Posted by Opie on 09 March 2011 - 09:59 AM

Some of the B's reporters on local shows were saying that if this happens on the other side of the rink it is 2 for interference. I don't see the intent to injure here. I see an interference, Chara was beat, tries to body Pacs into the boards and the stanchion is there.

I don't see a suspension coming, would it surprise me if he got 1-2 games, no because I understand the heat of a rivalry/bad hit argument.

I just personally think it was bad luck and bad timing.

Versus crew (Eddie O specifically) say he is lucky not to get 8 games.

Good to see the chin strap theory is only used by some one familiar with things strapped on!

Esteef,

What happened when Jody Shelley boarded McQuaid earlier this year, was he taken out in an ambulance? No, the officials walked him away, no one did a thing to him. Your over generalizations while comical are not true!

What happened after Cooke cleaned Savard's clock, or when Bergeroen was boarded?

Would I have liked to see dents put into TK's face by a guy like Mac, sure, but that does not add validation to your statement.

Just another chance for the enforcer crowd to jump up and scream:

"See, what did we tell you!"
