#1995991 The Curse of Marian Hossa

Posted by Joseph Franks on 07 June 2010 - 07:05 PM

That's why I love forums.

Guy scores 40 goals in the season, leads the team. We lose game 7 overtime of the Stanley Cup Finals, and people talk s*** :)

Sure, lets blame it all on Hossa :)

He's been to the finals 3 times in a row. No Detroit player can lay claim to that :)

What if we had made it to the finals this year....and lost. Guess we'd have to pick someone else to blame :)

Sure, hes been a poor playoff performer the last few years.

But he's in the finals again, and all of our "playoff performers".....are playing nhl 2010 on their playstations.

#1995670 Why Holmstrom

Posted by jroach17 on 07 June 2010 - 06:31 AM

In this day and age of big speedy forwards, and great two way players, why in the world would the Wings resign Holmstrom? He is only good for the powerplay, he is a liability on defense, & my grandma can skate faster than him. This was our chance to get younger, faster, bigger with Free agency. We signed Lidstrom, okay fine, still think we paid too much, but I'm okay with it. I'm not okay with the human pylon being resigned. We probably should have kept Leino instead of Holmstrom seeing as how he is playing right now. I'm also starting to think we should have kept Steve Yzerman & let Holland walk too, that was a bad move for the future Holland, you blew it!

#1995628 Stanley Cup Finals eeriy similar to 2009

Posted by NEpats1028 on 06 June 2010 - 11:23 PM

1) Features a team from the Midwest against a team from Pennsylvania.

2) Also features an extremely overrated player heralded to be something he is not (Crosby:Gretzky Toews::Yzerman)

3) Home team goes up 2-0 despite being outplayed

4) Home team has held serve up until this point

5) Both game 5's resulted in blowouts for the home team

If the pattern stays true then we should be in for a close victory by the Flyers in Game 6 and then an "anything can happen" scenario in Game 7. Stay tuned, it should be a good finish.

i'd hardly call toews overrated. He's a great captain and knows how to lead a team at such a young age. Im not saying he's comparable to Yzerman yet, but something about the kid is special. On the other hand, Kane is overrated and so is Keith. I'd love to see Toews win a cup someday, but not Kane.

#1994929 Great or Bust?

Posted by Finnish Wing on 05 June 2010 - 04:34 PM

I keep seeing multiple posts on this forum and other forums about how we made a bad move giving up Ville Leino.
The reality is, he is one of the highest scoring players on Philadelphia at this moment in the playoffs.

I don't think Ville Leino is a great player, and at best he is a secondary scorer.
He Didn't fit in with the wings because of the depth chart we have.

At this point and time, I believe this is an attempt to get a raise by him. (His contract expires after the season)

But really, who would sit in the lineup for this guy to get goals? We aren't sitting bertuzzi, homer, datsyuk, zetterberg, franzen, filpulla?

None of these players are going to play on the third line, it just doens't happen.

It's a great fit for a low scoring defensive style of game for Philly, but not for Detroit.

Great or Bust?

I'm gonna say bust, he is lousy with the puck on his stick and is bad defensively(watch the last game even tho they won)
And he is not a regular season scorer. Most of his goals are just to an open net so I'm not impressed with his playoffs.

Haha. You're so wrong.

It's not a contract year for him. That would make it all the difference, but it isn't like that. He still has that 800k year for next year as well. So he's not "playing for a rase".

Also, that other comment either shows that you've not watched a single Flyers game this post-season OR that you wan't to make him look MUCH worse by trying to make some bulls*** excuses for him playing well. He's been absolutely dominant at times and has been a top forward for them, especially in the Finals.

Your argument is so ridicolous man. "Lousy with the puck"? LOL. So you know better than Laviolette, Briere, Pronger or Burish, right?

He's not a regular season scorer because "most of his goals are on open net"? WTF. So you're not impressed with his playoffs. Yeah. Obviously you aren't. And there's only one reason for that. YOU DON'T WANNA BE.

But go ahead, keep making these funny excuses for yourself. As I said, maybe if you try hard enough they'll actually become true. Try this: say repeatedly "Leino sucks! Leino sucks!" and it might just happen.

Or not. Well anyway, watch for him to lift that Cup after few days.

The point is, he was a rookie. Not every rookie comes out of the gate blazing. They pitched him after half a season and he really didn't give him a chance. This is like when Howard played one game last season and everyone s*** on him after the game even though it was a complete lack of defense that cost them the game. Leino played during the worst part of the worst season in 20 years. He got the short end of the stick. Plain and simple.

Based on his s***ty season, lack of improvement and high salary?

You mean based on 60% of a season? And 900,000 isn't that high comparatively speaking.

Detroit didn't have "a little bit of time". If they weren't up against the cap Leino would have stayed.

There are always options. Despite a rough season, Holland shouldn't have turned his sights right to one of our most valuable prospects.

How much was he making?

900,000. Okay....? You do know Kris Draper makes more than that and Kirk Maltby just made a tad less that season.

13 games doesn't make a career.

Oh okay, but 60% of a rookie season does.

Brett Lebda is a defenseman. Not much of a point in getting rid of a defenseman for a forward to replace when you still have to put a defenseman in the lineup anyway.

We have a log jam of defensemen. One (whether it be Lebda or Meech) could have easily been moved. And even if we didn't move a defenseman. Why not get rid of guys we know won't be coming back next year? Maltby? Williams? I would have been fine with either one over Leino who at WORST was a question mark.

I'd rather see Pronger and Philly with the cup then Chicago.

Pronger winning a Conn Smythe won't put his career over Lidstrom's anyways. At least not with level headed fans.

some stupid people has said that pronger is better than lidstrom alltime just because he has a good playoffs. I would hate to see the conn smythe go to him. It must go to chicago and toews!

"How incredible was Ville Leino tonight? By far the best Flyer on the ice, Leino dipsy-doodled his way through the Blackhawks all night long, pacing his linemates, Danny Briere and Scott Hartnell, with his magnificent play. In the locker room after the game, Ian Laperriere shouted over to him 'Detroit should've traded Datsyuk instead of you.'"

Yep this is definitely the guy I would turn to for pinpoint analysis...

Posted by ShanahanMan on 03 June 2010 - 10:32 AM

Everybody gets that people make mistakes. Getting pissed off at management for THIS MISTAKE, when Leino BARELY DID ANYTHING WITH THE RED WINGS, is so stupid and pointless.

How hard is it to spell out for some of you? It can't be described any more clearly for y'all. You want me to write it out in crayon with some drawings?

And once again, my point is that you (and Holland) are basing that off of only half a season's worth of performance. Did you already forget his amazing run with the Wings in 08-09 when he had 9 points in 13 games? Also, by your logic, we should have gotten rid of Franzen (16 points in first 80 games) in the middle of his first season as well. Or would you find a reason for Holland to have been justified then too?

I'm hoping to have two more pucks by Friday if you are interested and possibly more to come but not if an unnamed individual can't stop a wrist shot from the top of the circle taken by a guy who has less career points in 255 games than I had this past season.

#1909765 KHL hopes to add Kovalchuk

Posted by RedArmy on 06 March 2010 - 03:19 PM

God, the KHL is like some guy who offers your girlfriend/wife to sleep with him right in front of you. Classless.

in what sense is it classless? What is the difference when one nhl teams offers more money than another nhl team? In the case when its KHL over NHL its all of a sudden classles... this is so stupid...
