#2530717 Red Wings Target Mike Green

Posted by Motown4013 on 08 July 2014 - 10:36 PM

Does it make the team better this year. Yep.
Does it address the shortcomings of a right handed shot on the PP. Yep
Does it upgrade our depth on defence. Yep

I honestly have never been a fan of Green but in the short term, while March, Sproul and XO are preparing for the leap to the NHL, I like it. We have 9 million + in salary cap space....It's a low risk, 1 year plug. I'm tired of a holland kicking tires.....drive the flippin car Holland!!!!

#2530693 Red Wings Target Mike Green

Why O Why does everyone think that the starting point for every single trade on earth is a high end prospect or roster player with upside?  None of Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco, or Mantha would go the other way in a trade for Green.  Good god, just look at every other deadline deal for guys who aren't superstars.  You ever see those kinds of roster players or prospects going the other way for a teams fourth defenseman?

Anaheim got ONE top prospect, a mid tier prospect, and a 1st for Bobby Ryan...and he was under (a very affordable) contract.  Mike Green will DEFINITELY not cost us more than that.

Where do these relative values come from?

I completely agree Kip....I think the value of Green is drastically overstated. The guy is still young and if he is healthy, he can have a long career but honestly, people are acting like we are trying to acquire Drew Doughty here. It's obvious that the caps are going in a different direction with the signing of Niskinen and Orpik. Green is the odd guy out AND Washington is right up against the cap. As Ansar points out in his article, they need depth at forward and they need to clear some cap space to go that.....so in my mind, it's a salary dump for Washington so they can address their needs at forward. That works in Detroits favor. I think a 1st rounder and a moderate prospect will do it. Once they rid themselves of the 6 million they are paying for Green they can address their need with a forward.
If this is the case, I'm interested.....if they are talking Jurco, Gus or Tats....I'm not!
PS Franzen could go....and then the Caps can have the laziest line in hockey with Mule and OV!

#2524293 Dan Cleary may return...sigh

Posted by Motown4013 on 17 June 2014 - 06:14 PM

Really . I mean really Holland? For F sakes buddy.....what has happened to you? Cleary was an awesome wing. Heart of a lion and blah, blah, blah but come ON man. It's not 2003 anymore. He should not have been signed last year and to even think you may be taking a spot away from Jurco or another potential young guy , to see what the they can do is beyond ridiculous.
Who made allowed this team to make the playoffs this year? It wasn't the vets- Cleary, Alfie, Bert or. Sammy.....it was youth.
We need speed, we need goals and we need a power forward. What of those three does Dan Cleary possess? Right....none.

Phew...end rant.

#2517466 4th Annual Playoff Money On The Board!

Posted by Motown4013 on 26 April 2014 - 10:45 PM

Sadly I owe 3.50- I wanted to owe MUCH more. I only had 5 bucks left in my paypal account after buying my kid a Datsyuk jersey so that's what I sent. Sorry I couldn't offer more.

Ok, let's do this!
The kids have carried this team so I want to reward them!
A buck for any Nyquist, Tater tots, Shehan, Jurco or Deke goal.
2 bucks for any Mule goal.
5 bucks for any Jimmy shut out
.50 cents for every time Chara, "Rat face" Marchant or Lucic is penalized.

#2513101 ADQF | Game 3 | Boston 3 @ Detroit 0, BOS leads series 2-1

Posted by Motown4013 on 22 April 2014 - 01:11 PM

We are gonna win this game. WE are gonna win this thing!
Boston was on a super high from the anniversary if the bombing. They executed well and we did not. We will be stronger and faster tonight. Crash the net and shoot the puck! Home ice, the Joe on fire! Woot
LETS GO RED WINGS

#2513096 ALFIE is out tonight.

Posted by Motown4013 on 22 April 2014 - 01:02 PM

Perhaps im in the minority here BUT.....I think this is the right move.
He has looked terrible....He can't skate, he won't shoot, he can't hold the puck at the line on the PP and he's obviously injured.
Andy is solid in the face off dot and if our game plan ( which it should be ) is to possess the puck, this move helps. Andy isn't gonna get a hat trick but these days, either is Alfie.
He's a big body. He goes into corners. I like it!

#2504053 Proud to be.....

Posted by Motown4013 on 30 March 2014 - 11:39 PM

I've always been proud to be a Wings fan. Classiest organization in all of sports, great leadership, passionate fan base, original six. Pride has always followed this organization....YZERMAN playing on one knee to lead his team and then him handing that cup to Konstintinov to show his dedication to such a brave man. The way that Zetterberg carried this team on his back to win 4 huge games to get into the playoffs last year. The medical staff, players and coaches who literally saved Jiri Fischers life on the bench after his collapse.

There is a lot to be proud of a team so rich in history and yet, somehow i find myself in disbelief about that this current team has done.
Three weeks ago this team was in 11th....certain to break the 22 year consecutive years to the post season. Things looked dismal and everyone was critical. Great teams have great players and usually a 1-2 punch. Perry and Getzlaf, Crosby and Malkin, Kane and Toews.....Zetterberg and Datsuyk. Only, we no longer have that 1-2 punch. We have the second most man games lost, but no team has had to endure losing such impact players. We have 6 guys that didn't start the year with this team but will not go down.

They are relentless. I keep waiting for Nyquist to be a fluke.....and he has just gotten better. A kid who wasn't on the roster when the puck dropped on then season and he leads the league over the last month in goals? That's fairy tale stuff.....and it's happening right before our eyes, every time this team plays. How about Glendening? This kid wasn't even a thought at the start of the year...now he's up against the top lines of teams shutting it down. Tatar, the day he lost his dad, kissing up to the sky in admiration, playing with a heart as heavy as an anvil......I could go on and on about the pride I feel in this organization and they way that they have overcome adversity.

I think we will make the playoffs...I know we WILL but even if we don't. Even if somehow the bounces don't go our way and we find ourselves out of the race April 13th, this team...this unbelievably dedicated, classy and big hearted team has made me prouder to be a wings fan......that's a lot to say in such a consistently successful organization.
Good on ya boys......" Dont stop believin'" and we will be just fine!!!!!
LGW!!! 23 all the way!

#2503506 Do you want monster to start tomorrow?

Posted by Motown4013 on 30 March 2014 - 01:13 PM

Without the Monster, we would probably be in 10th and no where close to a playoff spot. He was super solid for us when Jimmy could not stop a beach ball. If the guy is healthy, let's use him. Howard can't go 10 in a row without getting too exhausted and we need him to be fresh down the stretch.

I think Monster has been seriously overlooked this year as a guy who played a pivotal role for us but .....that's not weird- the young guys, the underdogs and the underrateds have been carrying it this team.
Let's go MONSTER and let's go Wings.....I would Love to see Mule, Alfie and Legwand show up tonight instead of relying on the young guys to carry this thing. maybe Monster in net will lead that charge!

#2497346 Franzen calls out team

Posted by Motown4013 on 19 March 2014 - 07:19 PM

if one thing has been made clear with these injuries, it's that tatar/nyquist are not players in the mold of datsyuk/zetterberg - they aren't the guys that are going to carry your team.  they're secondary players.

LOL.....every time I read your posts I get a laugh..... man, do you watch this team???? Have you seen this kid Gus? These kids??? Look at the score sheet over the last 5 games and tell me who is carrying the team.
Watch a game and then repost

#2491244 Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

Posted by Motown4013 on 05 March 2014 - 07:14 PM

Ok, well I think I may be the ONLY person here that feels like this trade is solid. in fact, I think it was necessary.
First off, we are stacked with young guys. Nobody would have predicted the success of Tats, Sheahan and Jerks for this years. We have a lot of young talent in the system but the truth is, I have to believe that the organization saw something in Calle that they werent comfortable with. With all of the injuries, if they had faith in the kid, he would have been here by now. That's the truth

Secondly, we are anemic down the middle. The game in NJ exposed Andersson. If we have ANY prayer of making the playoffs, we had to address the issue right now. July is too late. Legwand is a good hockey player that has consistently performed under pressure. The guy is a defensive forward who can help our issues with D. he also hasnt had a lot if offensive help in Nashville and he's a Michigan boy so I imagine he will be highly motivated to perform.

With the re-injury to Helm, DATSYUK out 3 weeks, Weiss's setback and Zetty gone until the playoffs, I honestly believe that we don't make the playoffs unless we get a solid 2 way guy. Perhaps before the news about Dats and Helm, we didn't need to address the issue but I don't feel the team had a choice.

I'm sure that a lot if you you are wishing that the " thumbs down" button was still available but I'm saying that although I don't like loosing Calle, I do like the trade, even if it is a bit steep. IMO, without it, we don't make the playoffs....with it, we have a great good chance.

#2488079 Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

Posted by Motown4013 on 28 February 2014 - 11:03 PM

IMO taking Cleary off the top line was our 1st trade line acquisition.
Making Cleary a healthy scratch is our 2nd trade line acquisition. BAM! Better team. I'll just revel in this :)

#2474441 Blessing in disguise?

Posted by Motown4013 on 19 January 2014 - 10:20 PM

I thought last year would teach Holland and Babcock that the youth movement was ready.

Unfortunately, it took a bunch of injuries to get guys like Sheahan or Jurco in the lineup.  And Nyquist wasn't playing early on in the season, while old fools like Cleary, Bertuzzi and Sammy were getting gametime.

It's a blessing in disguise based on what happens next offseason.  If it's more of the same, then it's hard to feel upbeat about the future.  Holland and Babcock need to cut bait and not feel like loyalty should come before contribution.

I do like what I see from some of these youngsters, though.

Agreed. When Cleary, Sammy and Bert come of the books, we can actually play guys full time that deserve the spot!

#2474438 Blessing in disguise?

Posted by Motown4013 on 19 January 2014 - 10:12 PM

This season has been such a roller coaster for even the most seasoned Wings fan. Let's face it....We should be up near 65 points on the year with the talent we have....except we are in a dog fight for a playoff spot, praying for our " big guys" to get healthy. With that being said, I can't remember a season that I have been more emotionally invested in this team I love. It's so easy when you have all the cogs in the wheel to expect greatness. DEMAND wins. In certain years, one loss was a huge deal because we have seen this team be so dominant for so many years.

Saturday nights game made me realize how all of the injuries and all of the uncertainty has perhaps been a blessing in disguise. Sounds lame? Perhaps...but I have never been so happy for some of the young men on this team who have really stepped up. Acknowledge how much character is on this roster. I no longer expect a win....I REALLY want one and the victory somehow is a bit sweeter when we get one. I think of Tatar who plays like he is shot from a cannon every night...even the night after he found out his dad died. He is so fun to watch....and without injuries, he would have been a healthy scratch and we wouldn't have the opportunity to see his heart and how big it really is.

Guys like the Monster who was terrible last year is one of the reasons we are even in the wild card race. He has been fantastic and I am so happy for him that he has been able to resurrect his career. Jurco, Shehan, Mrazk and Glenny have all shown that the future is bright in Hockeytown. We have a ton of talent, character and heart on this team and we are finding in the most unusual places. I'm really proud of this team and although it's been a train wreck of year for injuries, it's shown the fans of this team that we can and will be contenders for years to come.

Ok, that's my warm fuzzy for today.

Terrible news...what a blow to our line-up.
