#2618395 Wings sign Brad Richards 1 yr, $3 million

Posted by Jersey Wing on 01 July 2015 - 04:38 PM

Are they better for the singings today? YES they are. More competition from the kids, more insurance for injuries. No prospects lost. Money comes and goes.

So far the Wings have gotten better.

We have the salary and it's 1 year so doesn't affect future contracts. Great deal!

Except he hadn't just won the Cup.

Meh. He'd be a depth signing. Still good on the PP. And waaaaay better than Cleary.

#2618262 Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)

Posted by haroldsnepsts on 01 July 2015 - 03:34 PM

So what number does he take?

Hopefully any number available other than 90.

EDIT: beat to the punch.  :P

I'm really surprised Green would accept shorter term.  Good signing by Kenny.  Hopefully Green stays healthy and this turns around some of the Wings UFA luck.

The icing on the cake for this deal would be ditching Kindl.

90 should be available, it's worked out well for the last 2 FA signings we gave it to.

I see zero chance Quincey gets dealt ... I'd personally rather trade kindl/smith right now and give ouellet marchenko some games

Kids are gonna have to get in some games , Quincey will probably be gone after this season , and when some kids are ready to step up and take a bigger role I'd expect Ericsson to be the next to be gone

Hell yeah. I've liked green since he entered the league and the wings need scoring from the defense real bad. Love the signing.

wow, I can't believe he agreed to only a 3yr deal, seems like a really good situation for us.

#2613495 What changes do you think we'll see with Blashill?

OK, first there isn't ever going to be a new Lidstrom.

Second, I'm sure he has an excellent idea of what the players can and can't do.

I agree with you, but only to a point. Sure things might be a little different.  But if the new coaches don't look at what our PP did successfully last year, with roughly the same personnel, (and try to recreate that success) then they're dangerously stupid and should immediately be fired.
If you had the second best PP a year ago, and you had almost the exact same personnel, the largely the same system, most of the same coaches, and access to all the technical information and game footage a person could ask for, would you completely scrap everything and start from scratch?
Neither would anybody else.  Surely Blash is smart enough to build of past successes, and try to improve upon past failures.  Reinventing the wheel would just be dumb. The powerplay was our biggest success last season.  I wouldn't expect too much to change in that regard, unless of course, it begins to struggle.

I just hope they get rid of the stupid no look drop pass that is way too predictable.

#2614289 Wings open to trading Mantha and/or their 1st Round Pick

Posted by marcaractac on 13 June 2015 - 10:42 PM

For an organization rapidly embracing a full youth movement, there doesn't seem to be much logic behind giving up Mantha and/or a first round pick. I personally don't buy it and hope Holland stays the course at this point. If drafting and developing is your thing, then you don't sacrifice that for Dion Phaneuf. Maybe three years ago with a younger Pav and Z, but not anymore.

Agree 100%, unless we can land a top pairing dman in/entering their prime.

Weiss, Smith, Jurco for Phaneuf?

Yeah, because Mike Babcock loves those three guys.  Might as well thrown Kindl in there too.  That'll really sweeten the pot.

Any potential trade for Phaneuf went right out the window the second Babs went to Toronto.

#2609588 Players who might be available due to teams cap issues

I see the Hawks letting Sharp walk and/or trading Hossa before anything happening with Seabrook. They have young players who can fill wing rolls. Not so much at D.

#2610612 The return of The Mule?

Posted by nawein on 27 May 2015 - 08:43 AM

For his sake I hope he retires. Concussions are dangerous when you've had as many as he has and another one could quite possibly cost him his life. No game is worth that.
