#2556824 Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Posted by F.Michael on 14 December 2014 - 11:55 PM

Rumor has it that Yandle and Boedker can be had.  The asking price for Yandle is rumored to be a top line guy, prospect, and second round pick.  We've got a top line forward on our third line.  No rumored asking price on Boedker.  So...

Franzen, Helm, Kindl (or Andersson), Pulkkinen, 2nd

for

Yandle and Boedker

Which would give us

Nyquist-Z-Abby

Tatar-Pav-Boedker

Jurco-Sheahan-Weiss

Miller-Glendening-Andersson (or Callahan if Andersson went the other way)

Thoughts?

Any trade that invloved  moving Franzen would make me smile.

Pretty sure if we make a trade for a dman, Big E is being bumped out of that #2. Why keep someone there who provides zero offensively?

Because preventing goals is equally as important as scoring them?

Am I missing something here?

#2554793 Jonathan Bernier - Nelson Mandela Comments

He's a hockey player, I didn't expect him to be politically correct and informed - some of those guys live and breathe hockey from the time they can balance on skates as toddlers.   He might be one of them.  I feel sort of bad that he got embarrassed (if in fact this did embarrass him).

The man should still know who Nelson Mandela is.

That first period was as amazing as any in recent history. That was a 2002/2008 period.

I fear Weiss is headed to the Island of Misfit Red Wings toys to join a water gun that squirts jelly, Bill Ranford, Uwe Krupp, Mike Modano, a spotted elephant, Robert Lang, Wendel Clark, Derian Hatcher, and a cowboy who rides an ostrich.

Getting in shape so he can be traded back to Florida for Campbell :ninja:

#2539044 Kindl on the block

Posted by haroldsnepsts on 08 October 2014 - 11:23 AM

I think he'd be fine on a team that let him be offensive all the way.  He can skate and shoot.  He's just no good in Babs' system because Babs' doesn't want offense out of his defense...he wants a very particular type of offense (the kind Kronwall, Lids, and Rafalski provided).  That's why Kindl struggles, and that's why Smith often struggles.

If he played a wide open, run and gun, style of hockey I'd take Kindl.  Someone like Tampa or Carolina would treat him well.

Kindl's problems aren't just offensive.  It might be able to overlook them if he were putting up a ton of points, but he still has serious defensive issues.  He will bail out of a play to avoid getting hit.  He still makes questionable decisions around his own net for someone with his level of experience.  He's too quick to chip it off the glass and give the puck up instead of making a play. And he doesn't use his considerable size at all.

I've said this many times before but Kindl is 6'3" and 216 lbs.  The only people bigger than him on the Wings are Franzen and Ericsson.  You'd never guess it by looking at how he plays.

Yes a run and gun system might be a better fit for him, but he still needs to be better at getting the puck out of his own end.  With someone who is as skilled as he is, his first pass should be his strength but it isn't.

He also had a stretch where he was among the best at the team in getting shots through from the point, but that has inexplicably evaporated.  Kindl has many lingering issues with his game, and it's not because of a defensive scheme Babcock is employing.  It has to do with lack of hockey sense and heart.  He's a tools but no toolbox guy.

#2543421 Franzen to 7-day IR

Posted by Son of a Wing on 22 October 2014 - 03:15 PM

People seem to think that by adding talent to the top, everyone just bumps down the depth chart and their role changes.

Nope. This isn't a video game.  Glendening, Andersson and Miller are doing a great job in their checking/shutdown role through the first few games.

So much so that they've earned more playing time.  They've had some of the toughest matchups and have shut down the opposition from scoring.

Limiting goals is just as important as scoring them.  Look to the top-9 guys if you have issues with the amount of goals being scored.

Classic.

Hope Weiss gets a shot. Cleary can continue to serve hot dogs at the snack bar as far as I'm concerned.

I wonder how much of E's issues are finger related. More mental than physical

I have been absent recently (but so, it seems, has everyone else), but I have to tell you what happened.

I always send Pasha a happy birthday message - doesn't matter where I am, when July 20 rolls around he gets a message from me.  This year was no different.  I was camping in the UP, and it came around.  So I sent him a very nice birthday message.

This time I got a thank you back from him.!   And it said, "See you in Traverse City soon."  Well, not this year, honey - cardiology appointments trump camp (no, not me - my heart's fine...it's the boss's genetic heart problems we're taking care of).  But at least I got a thank you this time...very cool.  :w00t:
