#2504053 Proud to be.....

Posted by Motown4013 on 30 March 2014 - 11:39 PM

I've always been proud to be a Wings fan. Classiest organization in all of sports, great leadership, passionate fan base, original six. Pride has always followed this organization....YZERMAN playing on one knee to lead his team and then him handing that cup to Konstintinov to show his dedication to such a brave man. The way that Zetterberg carried this team on his back to win 4 huge games to get into the playoffs last year. The medical staff, players and coaches who literally saved Jiri Fischers life on the bench after his collapse.

There is a lot to be proud of a team so rich in history and yet, somehow i find myself in disbelief about that this current team has done.
Three weeks ago this team was in 11th....certain to break the 22 year consecutive years to the post season. Things looked dismal and everyone was critical. Great teams have great players and usually a 1-2 punch. Perry and Getzlaf, Crosby and Malkin, Kane and Toews.....Zetterberg and Datsuyk. Only, we no longer have that 1-2 punch. We have the second most man games lost, but no team has had to endure losing such impact players. We have 6 guys that didn't start the year with this team but will not go down.

They are relentless. I keep waiting for Nyquist to be a fluke.....and he has just gotten better. A kid who wasn't on the roster when the puck dropped on then season and he leads the league over the last month in goals? That's fairy tale stuff.....and it's happening right before our eyes, every time this team plays. How about Glendening? This kid wasn't even a thought at the start of the year...now he's up against the top lines of teams shutting it down. Tatar, the day he lost his dad, kissing up to the sky in admiration, playing with a heart as heavy as an anvil......I could go on and on about the pride I feel in this organization and they way that they have overcome adversity.

I think we will make the playoffs...I know we WILL but even if we don't. Even if somehow the bounces don't go our way and we find ourselves out of the race April 13th, this team...this unbelievably dedicated, classy and big hearted team has made me prouder to be a wings fan......that's a lot to say in such a consistently successful organization.
Good on ya boys......" Dont stop believin'" and we will be just fine!!!!!
LGW!!! 23 all the way!

#2503506 Do you want monster to start tomorrow?

Posted by Motown4013 on 30 March 2014 - 01:13 PM

Without the Monster, we would probably be in 10th and no where close to a playoff spot. He was super solid for us when Jimmy could not stop a beach ball. If the guy is healthy, let's use him. Howard can't go 10 in a row without getting too exhausted and we need him to be fresh down the stretch.

I think Monster has been seriously overlooked this year as a guy who played a pivotal role for us but .....that's not weird- the young guys, the underdogs and the underrateds have been carrying it this team.
Let's go MONSTER and let's go Wings.....I would Love to see Mule, Alfie and Legwand show up tonight instead of relying on the young guys to carry this thing. maybe Monster in net will lead that charge!

if one thing has been made clear with these injuries, it's that tatar/nyquist are not players in the mold of datsyuk/zetterberg - they aren't the guys that are going to carry your team.  they're secondary players.

LOL.....every time I read your posts I get a laugh..... man, do you watch this team???? Have you seen this kid Gus? These kids??? Look at the score sheet over the last 5 games and tell me who is carrying the team.
Watch a game and then repost

#2491244 Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

Posted by Motown4013 on 05 March 2014 - 07:14 PM

Ok, well I think I may be the ONLY person here that feels like this trade is solid. in fact, I think it was necessary.
First off, we are stacked with young guys. Nobody would have predicted the success of Tats, Sheahan and Jerks for this years. We have a lot of young talent in the system but the truth is, I have to believe that the organization saw something in Calle that they werent comfortable with. With all of the injuries, if they had faith in the kid, he would have been here by now. That's the truth

Secondly, we are anemic down the middle. The game in NJ exposed Andersson. If we have ANY prayer of making the playoffs, we had to address the issue right now. July is too late. Legwand is a good hockey player that has consistently performed under pressure. The guy is a defensive forward who can help our issues with D. he also hasnt had a lot if offensive help in Nashville and he's a Michigan boy so I imagine he will be highly motivated to perform.

With the re-injury to Helm, DATSYUK out 3 weeks, Weiss's setback and Zetty gone until the playoffs, I honestly believe that we don't make the playoffs unless we get a solid 2 way guy. Perhaps before the news about Dats and Helm, we didn't need to address the issue but I don't feel the team had a choice.

I'm sure that a lot if you you are wishing that the " thumbs down" button was still available but I'm saying that although I don't like loosing Calle, I do like the trade, even if it is a bit steep. IMO, without it, we don't make the playoffs....with it, we have a great good chance.

IMO taking Cleary off the top line was our 1st trade line acquisition.
Making Cleary a healthy scratch is our 2nd trade line acquisition. BAM! Better team. I'll just revel in this :)

#2474441 Blessing in disguise?

Posted by Motown4013 on 19 January 2014 - 10:20 PM

I thought last year would teach Holland and Babcock that the youth movement was ready.

Unfortunately, it took a bunch of injuries to get guys like Sheahan or Jurco in the lineup.  And Nyquist wasn't playing early on in the season, while old fools like Cleary, Bertuzzi and Sammy were getting gametime.

It's a blessing in disguise based on what happens next offseason.  If it's more of the same, then it's hard to feel upbeat about the future.  Holland and Babcock need to cut bait and not feel like loyalty should come before contribution.

I do like what I see from some of these youngsters, though.

Agreed. When Cleary, Sammy and Bert come of the books, we can actually play guys full time that deserve the spot!

#2474438 Blessing in disguise?

This season has been such a roller coaster for even the most seasoned Wings fan. Let's face it....We should be up near 65 points on the year with the talent we have....except we are in a dog fight for a playoff spot, praying for our " big guys" to get healthy. With that being said, I can't remember a season that I have been more emotionally invested in this team I love. It's so easy when you have all the cogs in the wheel to expect greatness. DEMAND wins. In certain years, one loss was a huge deal because we have seen this team be so dominant for so many years.

Saturday nights game made me realize how all of the injuries and all of the uncertainty has perhaps been a blessing in disguise. Sounds lame? Perhaps...but I have never been so happy for some of the young men on this team who have really stepped up. Acknowledge how much character is on this roster. I no longer expect a win....I REALLY want one and the victory somehow is a bit sweeter when we get one. I think of Tatar who plays like he is shot from a cannon every night...even the night after he found out his dad died. He is so fun to watch....and without injuries, he would have been a healthy scratch and we wouldn't have the opportunity to see his heart and how big it really is.

Guys like the Monster who was terrible last year is one of the reasons we are even in the wild card race. He has been fantastic and I am so happy for him that he has been able to resurrect his career. Jurco, Shehan, Mrazk and Glenny have all shown that the future is bright in Hockeytown. We have a ton of talent, character and heart on this team and we are finding in the most unusual places. I'm really proud of this team and although it's been a train wreck of year for injuries, it's shown the fans of this team that we can and will be contenders for years to come.

Ok, that's my warm fuzzy for today.

#2462985 The Nyquist/Tatar Thread

Posted by Motown4013 on 10 December 2013 - 09:25 PM

This line tonight has brought it. They have dominated when they have been out there. I love watching these young guns.....reenergizes this team and super fun hockey to watch!

#2462611 The Nyquist/Tatar Thread

Posted by Motown4013 on 09 December 2013 - 09:25 PM

I cant believe i am doing a line thread.....but.......Just for a game....ONE game, I wish Babs would give up the idea that he needs size or grit with scoring and go full throttle with:

Pasha Tatar Alfie
Gus Hank and Franzen

I honestly think Tatar and Dats would be amazing together and already the Swedish meatball line really works. Gus has lit a fire under the Mules ass.
A girl can dream, right?

#2459450 Weiss

Posted by Motown4013 on 30 November 2013 - 10:52 AM

I like Weiss and I think the signing when it happened....no doubt he has been a disappointment.

My question is....he is NOT a defensive liability so when we are up 4-0 or 5-0 like we have been the last 2 games, why not try and get him one? Get the monkey off his back. He must be beyond frustrated. Play him of the powerplay. The problem is confidence....he has ZERO and is starting to pass and defer.

If we are up, throw the guy a bone and let him play with Zetty and Franzen or Gus. Get him a goal and they will come.

I think this post is more about a players make-up and their responsively rather than "Who is a better hockey player" you see this time and again with athletes. A good fit with the team, the coach, management Ect all play a factor in how a player responds. It's not unusual for a player to be amazing on one team and then underperform for another. Weiss, Flip...but others like Heatly, Yashin, Gonchar, Nash, Lupul..........the list is endless.
I think Weiss will come around. He's too good of a hockey player not to BUT some players simply play better and respond better depending on the environment. Looks at Hudler...it was pretty clear that Babcock was not fond of him. He was critized for his poor defensive play but in Calgary, he has been given the first line and he is thriving. I don't think he did well being scrutinized, whether it was valid or not...the same goes with Flip. Some players need to be challenged, attacked and then excel under a hard nose approach. Others need to be coddled and reassured. Babcock isn't that guy and although he is a good coach, I imagine he is very demanding and vocal about whatbhe likes and what he doesn't.
Either way, we had a good player in Flip who needed a change of scenery and he's doing well. I always liked him here and I wish him well. I hope same for Weiss and that he will find his rhythm and become what the organization saw in him.
Just my 2 cents!

#2450094 Helm in, Franzen out against the Oil tonight!

Posted by Motown4013 on 02 November 2013 - 02:14 PM

Ok, this is what we have all been waiting for. Please play Helm, Andy and Tatertots on the third line together!
Good luck Helmer and welcome back! www.mlive.com/redwings

I thought he was REALLY close last night to taking his game to the level he should be playing at. I would love Babs to put him with Pavs and Z to try to get his confidence back. I agree that he is getting better and comfortable with the Wings system.
I was a Flip supporter....I still am. Why can't you love hockey and really like certain other players who play elsewhere but love the Wings?
Weiss will breakout...it's just a matter of time. I'd rather him than Franzen every day. At least the guy shows some heart and competes. The rest will come

#2448925 What would you do?...

Posted by Motown4013 on 30 October 2013 - 07:33 PM

I'd trade Franzen. His contract is cap friendly and the guy has shown he can be a huge asset.....he just doesn't want to be.
Gus and Tatertots are going to be better players all around than Franzenfloat. I am so tired of watching this guy meander around the ice like he is on a Sunday stroll at a seniors home. Its BEYOND ridiculous. I see Bert hustle his ass around with a bad back. Gus in the minors is a complete waste, and Tatar saddled with Cleary the albatross IF he isn't a healthy scratch.... yet, there is 93, crawling back on a line change or standing in the same spot for 8 seconds of his shift. Imagine having that much talent and deciding not to use it?
He and Lash for Girardi and a late pick would do it for me.
