Best time of the year, no doubt. Perhaps being an underdog ( most " experts" are picking us to lose to Nashville in the 1st round) so....flying under the radar may work to our advantage.
Anything can happen...as hockey fans, we have seen it time and again.
Let's go Red Wings!!!! I want to still be cheering in June!
Preds with nothing to play for is leading Colorado 3-1. Shows me that they got it and we don't ... we had something to play for and notta. I'll watch every game and hope that the Wings win but if I take off my homer glasses, I think it will be a short series, Preds in 5.
No. Anyone who is going into the playoffs HAS something to play for. Try different lines , mix up the face-off men....the AVS have nothing to play for since they didn't make the playoffs. If you are motivated team, you should be working. As for us....we got notta? Pretty sure we came back from a two goal deficit to take it to a shootout. Wings in six....enjoy your crow before round 2
I was somebody who said I thought the team would miss E more than they imagined when he went down. He is playing very solid hockey and I am really glad that he is getting the Props he deserves.
way to go E!!!
"LOL WOW WINGS SUCK! Y EVEN WATCH???" "I'm done watching. Wake me up when Ken gets his head outta his ass. I can't believe this is my favorite team." "Trade the whole team"
These type of bandwagon comments are the reason I just don't even bother posting here at times, especially on gamedays. Sure, its nice when they win, but people really act like its the end of the world if we go on a skid. Don't get me wrong, I'm critical of the team at times, but I'm not on here riding every guys ass every damn chance I get, and this team will always be mine no matter how they play.
Now that we played a decent second half of the game and pulled out a win, all the trolls will be silent for a day or two.
Well said! It's overkill! Great heart tonight boys...awesome game,
Sharing the sentiments about Cleary. How many goals have to go in with Cleary on the ice for Babcock to STOP playing some idiotic hunch that Number 11
Is gonna find his game in OT. f*** sakes
As for the game...Ty was great and I out we ayes well. That was the Zetterberg I know and love!
Emmerton's been here all season. He was a often healthy scratch earlier in the season, but has taken on a regular role with all the injuries.
I think a big part of the Wings' problem is complacency. The team rarely seems to play with any sense of urgency, and when they do, it's too little, too late. Underperforming players are almost never scratched or benched unless they're fourth liners or sixth defensemen. Franzen being demoted to the third line was, honestly, surprising. When's the last time a regular player was traded away or not re-signed in free agency? (Hossa was a cap issue, and I don't count Kopecky, he missed almost every playoff game.) They know they'll be back next year, whether they meet expectations or not. There is no fear of losing their jobs. I heard an interesting quote on the radio around the trade deadline... basically it said the Wings overvalue their players and prospects, and undervalue players and prospects from other teams. Kind of goes along with Wisniewski's quote from last summer that the Wings "don't pay market value". Also explains why Holland didn't really improve the team last summer (despite the fact that he said the team "has to get better") or at the deadline this year. Money is no excuse, he had PLENTY of room under the salary cap. If there's an early exit from the playoffs this year, there NEEDS to be change. Whether it's trading away a few regular players, firing Babcock (maybe the players are tuning him out?), or even Holland, something would need to be done. But the loyalty begins at the very top, so as long as Mr. Ilitch is still in charge, I don't see much change on the horizon.
So we're judging "best" based on 10 game sample sizes now? Ooh, ooh, I can play that game too! Malkin's the best! No, wait, I mean Stamkos! Perry! Gagner!!!
10 games over 14 months doth not a best player make. Considering he's probably one hard hit away from the end of his career, the jury's most definitely still out on this one. And FWIW, Philly's neutralized him today.
Come on ....it's not 10 games....he has been the best or in the conversation since 2005. I don't like the kid- he is arrogant and a whiner but when healthy, he is the best player in the NHL. No need for a sample size on that.
That was a more skilled team & the rest of the western teams had not caught up to the new financial requirements & the teams in the west were chasing a finesse style of play.
The western teams are bigger now, we are less skilled & there is far more parody in the west. Today, the sharks are 9 points above 500 & are not in the play offs. It's not 08.
Yes, that must be why we broke a record with the most consecutive home wins EVER. Yes, we are doomed. The west is very talented and how many of those teams are big physical teams? Vancouver? St. Louis? No.
I understand that it's not 2008....but tell me how the 08 team was more skilled? As for the sharks, they aren't a 500 team because they are smaller- they are a 500 team because they are weaker in goal and don't have secondary scoring. I find it frustrating when people chalk up all of this teams woes to us not having a " big " team. We are too old, too slow, too small...too many euros. That's what people have been saying about us since 97 while we were busy winning four cups
I have felt that the PK does a pretty good job (compared to the power play)
I think most guys will play hard to get it out of the zone and get it deep. My only complaint is that little finesse pass they sometimes do which always seems to lead to a loss of possession and a shot on our net. Get the puck and hammer it OUT of the zone. No need to get style points...just get it the f out!
You can say 13 and 5 but it wasn't clicking before they were injured.
I know we lead the league in points by D men, but often times I feel like guys go back to the point instead of taking it inside and roofing the shot. Perhaps it's become second nature to play catch with the blue line but I would like to see them keep it down low. Just a thought.
