And Detroit?

The Wings were in on Bouwmeester, but, in the end, they didn’t get him because they didn’t include a first-round pick, a source told ESPN.com.

Which quite frankly, is a smart, smart, smart decision by Wings GM Ken Holland.

Yes, Bouwmeester is the top-four D-man the Wings have been craving all year, but Detroit is not in a position organizationally to be trading first-round picks. They moved a first-round pick last year for Kyle Quincey when they still had Nicklas Lidstrom and Brad Stuart on the team and felt they had a shot to really contend.

But now? Of course they still like their team if they get healthy and make the playoffs, but this is an organization that needs to re-stock and use its own first-round picks to actually draft players.
They’ve been near the top of the standings for 20 years. It’s time to draft and develop again.
There is no way Holland could have ever justified moving a first-rounder to Calgary. What if the Wings miss the playoffs? Even had they structured the deal like St. Louis by deferring the first-rounder to 2014, who’s to say what Detroit is going to look like next season if they miss the playoffs this season? That pick could be even more dangerous to give Calgary.

My belief is that Detroit’s final offer on Bouwmeester was a second-round pick and two prospects. And frankly, that’s as far as the Wings could have gone.

Im sure most of the analyists and experts never saw LA as the team to beat. Give me a break. 8 of 12 ESPN hockey analyists had them ousted in the 1st round by Vancouver. They werent even favored when they ramrodded everyone to get to the SCF's as nhl.com has the Devils in 6. So the answer to my question is not last year.

Playoffs? When is the last time the BEST team ( on paper) won the cup? All we have to do is get it....and then we will see what happens....The boys can do that.

wow....what the #CK does a dude have to do to stay on this team? Tatar has been much more than anyone anticipated and yet he gets yanked. I dont care if its to see what Gus can do...he has played a way onto the team and has been better than at least half the roster. Its completely idiotic

oranges.  Top to bottom, NJ's defense corps is MUCH better than ours.  A lot more depth and a lot less dead weight (Ericsson, Kindl, Quincey).  When three of our 6 nightly defenseman are as useless as those three, we've got troubles.

NJ Currentsly has 4 players who are plus players ( Green, Larsson, Volchenkov and Talinder) combined for a plus 10. The 6 defense corps have scored 37 pts.

We have 4 guys as well who are plus players ( Big Rig, Kindl, Q and Smith) combined for a +28pts .... all the guys you mentioned that are dead weight Our defense corps have scored 44 points.

Who's deeper and has less daed weight??

White is the least of our problems! He has been spotty but man, our issues are much deeper than White

 
Small sample size but he holds a 71.4% face off percentage right now.  Certainly beats the 45.5% win percentage held by the Wings current 4th line center.

Ok, that's one stat but let's look at the rest of his play... Took a silly penalty, is a minus, has three giveaways and no takeaways and no shots on goal. He has potential but he is not NHL ready verses a solid role player who has a wicked wrister, some speed and is very effective on the PK.

Eaves is glass.  Andersson is probably trying real hard not to get out of position right now, so it's probably safe to say he needs a bit more time to get comfortable with a spot in the line-up before he goes all out.  I'd rather give the new blood a chance.  

Eaves was out of the line up with a serious concussion.....give the brother a minute!

I may be in the minority here but I havent been all that impressed with Andersson. For having a big body, he doesnt use it alot. What does he bring to the tabe for this team? I know he is young but he certainly hasnt dazzled. I would prefer Eaves in the line-up
