I thought I heard he was too old at 26 to be eligible to win the award

#2354136 General thoughts: this team, its future, the league...

Where are these guys that you speak of? Suter ? We put a huge offer out for him..he was never coming here..he wanted to play in Minny..end of conversation on that one.  Check out that link with the top defensive scorers on it.  There isn't one guy in the top 30 that is head and shoulders above the rest.  Alot of really good guys there but spending 10 mil a year on any of those guys is crazy.

What? Obviously the return on investement on Colo, Sammy and Gustavsson is still up for debate because they have been injured.  Tootoo has done everything they would've wanted out of him so far..he's been physical, dropped the gloves and changed the flow of games when we needed it.  Bert is what he is, 3rd line guy..10-15 goals a year..good contract..good team guy.  Quincey would be tolerable if we didnt give up a 1st for him..that one hurts.  Huskins was an emergency guy playing for peanuts and doing everything they asked of him. Get over the Parise and Suter thing..you don't get it..they were never playing here..we offered them huge money and they wanted to play in Minny.

I agree with Tootoo, he's been completely worth the investment.  I think that Sammy signing was stupid along with the Bert one.  I think I wouldn't have minded 1 year contracts for each, but I'm not thrilled about multiple years for both.  And Bertuzzi is a 3rd line player, except he's playing with a top 2 line with Datsyuk.

#2192184 No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

My mind is full of f*** over this. He's close to signing, he's not close to signing, he disappears, Shero demands an answer, Pitt news is waiting at the airport for his arrival, he rejected Pitt's offer, he's coming to Detroit, he signed with Pitt.

WHAT THE f*** IS GOING ON!

You two seriously need to learn how to play hockey. I get that you like watching huge hits, but that's not a good hit. That's an illegal hit, and an unsafe hit. Even if Horton has his head up and looking forward, he's just looped around the neutral zone and he's barely moving at that point, so Rome still wastes him.

Agree with everything until you get to the last part. I think if his head is looking forward he doesn't get wasted. For how late the hit is he would definitely be able to get out of the way of it or at least most of it.

He jumped into the hit. That's TEXTBOOK charging.

I have a hard time agreeing that it's so obviously a charge. I think that the hit was just so hard that he is launched in the air, much like Kronwall's hits. But I'm not sold either way, it's really tough to make a concrete decision on that part of the hit.

A late hit that lead to a devastating injury. "An eye for and eye" type of suspension. I'm perfectly fine with it.

The hit wasn't dirty, it was just late, and you can't have that.

Completely agree!

i dont know why somebody "negatived" you on this. your exact point has been talked about on sports shows ever since the hit. though i wouldn't say it was in response to burrows scoring 2 goals afterwards, i think they would have come down on anybody hard regardless of what he did.

Ya I wasn't really sure why i got negg'd either. But the only reason i added the burrows stuff in is because he made such an impact on the game that they really wouldn't want that to happen again. But you're probably right, if burrows didn't have an impact on the game this suspension would probably still happen as it is.

Problem is, 4 games in the SCF is unprecedented. Certainly, the hit deserved a suspension. A game or 2 ok, but the remainder of the playoffs? Has it been done before? The league looks stupid because the suspensions seem to be arbitrary. If they want to crack down, fine. They should ramp up the level of suspensions but to go from what 1 game or zero games in the last hit like this to 4.

It makes no sense. And I am NOT defending the hit or the guy. I am questioning the way the league hands down suspensions.

I think part of the reason they made such a stand on this is because they missed suspending burrows. They miss that and he goes out and pots 2 goals including the ot winner. I think they are definitely trying to compensate for that. But I do think they suspension length is worthy.

Note the portion in bold. That's why this suspension occurred. If Horton had fallen differently and not been injured, there would have been no suspension. If Horton had been injured and it had been Bieksa laying the hit, there would have been perhaps a one-game suspension. But since it's a depth defenseman who injured a star player, it's a long suspension.

Well, whatever.

Exactly. I think the NHL made the correct call on this tho. Since it was a dirty hit, in a such a crucial time (being the scf) the offender should be out just as long. Dirty in the fact that it was illegal.

It was less than a second late, it was a clean hit, and even if you want it to be interference, they should still fine horton for not having a f***'s clue of where he was on the ice.

Is this a serious statement? I mean the first part, obviously the second part isn't

We all do realize that Darren Helm and Patrick Eaves outscored Hudler this season right? Oh, and they played 4th line minutes. I guess you are right, anyone (this case being Hudler) can put points up with Datsyuk.

#2177869 Subliminal Sidney Crosby Messages in NHL commercials?

Posted by Mitchmac33 on 20 May 2011 - 11:10 PM

Ovechkin has regressed. Datsyuk is close, but there is no way you are basing this on the last two seasons when Ovechkin lost out on the Richard to Crosby/Stamkos and when Crosby went down lost it to Perry.

That is Ovechkin's whole allure. He is a crazy goal scorer, and hasn't improved in that department. Call it the system or his linemates, but he has not been getting it done, and has not been improving at the same rate Crosby has.

Datsyuk has done great, but at the same time Crosby this season had 66 points in 41 games to Datsyuk's 59 in 56. And 109 in 81 to 70 in 80 the past year. Defensivly Datsyuk has had the edge but you really have to consider that Crosby has improved in that department and closed the gap.

Carman may be over exaggerating but it is hard to disagree with the notion that *gasp* Crosby is the best player currently in the league.

I don't disagree with you at all. Crosby is an amazing hockey player and at times the best player in the league. Obviously people are going to go through times when they are playing better than others. But the only thing i was arguing about was to say that Crosby is the best by a wide margin is a little too extreme.
