#2494245 Detroit D performance

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 11 March 2014 - 02:17 PM

I think the fact that you're comparing scoring between Ericsson and Quincey just shows the ridiculousness of this argument.

It should be obvious at this point that neither player is relied on for the offensive production so I'm not sure why we're using that as a measuring point for their value to the team.

It's a measuring point for Quincey because that's suppose to be the type of D-man he is. He's never been a shut-down or stay-at-home defenseman. So if he's bringing almost no offense to the table, he better be stepping it up big time on the defensive end. And so far he has barely showed up on the scoresheet and has been mediocre on the defensive end at best. If he were a high-level shut-down defenseman you would definitely have a point. But he's not (or even close to it). And the almost every game bonehead penalties seem to be the most consistent part of his game. So basically that's why people find it laughable that he is our 2nd highest paid D-man, and makes more $ than Jonathan Ericsson.

#2490029 Nicklas Lidstrom:Greatest Red Wing Ever

lidstrom is undoubtedly a better player than yzerman, though.

Couldn't disagree more. Especially since comparing a center to a defenseman isn't so easy to do. But IMO Yzerman was definitely the greatest Red Wing of all time.

#2487879 Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 28 February 2014 - 04:10 PM

I just wonder about Kes's willingness to become a Wing. Wasn't he "that guy" growing up in Michigan? You know the one, rooted for the Avs, went to Ohio State, basically middle fingered any and everything Michigantastic? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Indeed, Kesler was definitely "that guy." Growing up he basically hated the Wings.

If we go for Vanek or Kesler we are losing one or more of Tatar, Nyquist, Jurco, and Sheahan.

IMO as long as we don't lose Nyquist or Tatar I'm fine with it. Although I would MUCH rather have Vanek than Kesler. Kesler is better defensively, but Vanek is and always was a goal scoring machine. We already have plenty of 2-way forwards. Adding a 30-40 goal scorer would be great for this team. I want a top 2 defenseman more than anything. But if we can't get one, Vanek would be a nice consolation.

I have a hard time seeing us getting Kesler and Edler for Weiss, Quincey, Andersson, and Almquist

Yeah, even NHL14 would laugh at that trade....Never gonna happen.

#2487697 2/27 GDT : Red Wings 6 at Senators 1, Franzen w/Hat Trick

Neil better get a suspension for that bullsh*t. He punches a guy in the head without any warning or trying to drop the gloves first? Pretty obvious he was trying to re-injure Franzen, which would be despicable for any type of injury, but a head injury? IMO that certainly should warrant a suspension of some sort.

Apparently, the Steve Ott rumors are starting to ramp up again. I actually think he'd be a nice addition, considering what we lack and what he brings to the table. But IMO if Kenny is gonna make a move it should really be a d-man. I know we lost Hank for the rest of the reg season. But with all the promising young guys we have, along with a healthy Weiss and a healthy Franzen, defense needs to be the number 1 focus (although I still highly doubt we'll be making any moves before the deadline).

I really don't think we're gonna be making any moves. But if we do, it better be a defenseman. It's pretty obvious that's our biggest overall weakness by far.

#2485945 USA-Canada Thread

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 21 February 2014 - 04:06 PM

Ya ok, the US fans were bragging for the last few weeks relentlessly about how they were winning the gold this year, and Canada has no chance and blah blah blah, I'm just doing my due diligence now.

Absolutely NO ONE said that Canada "had no chance." In fact, most of us said that they had every chance in the world. Just that some of us were confident that team USA had enough to bring home the Gold (especially the way the tourney had been going). But of course we can't be confident in a gold without it somehow being viewed as a personal attack to certain Canadian fans here. NOW GO SWEDEN FOR THE GOLD!!!

So glad we're getting USA vs Canada. And for the first time ever I'm actually confident that team USA will get the win. Although, I don't see it being too lopsided. In fact, I won't be surprised at all if Canada wins. Both teams are stacked with NHL-talent. But the way I see it, USA has a 'check mark' over Canada in overall team chemistry (especially the forwards) and goaltending. And Canada has a 'check mark' over USA on defense (USA's D has played good but Canada has more top 2 d-men, gotta give them the edge). But just based on the way this tourney is going so far, I believe team USA's areas of strength will be good enough for a Gold. Or at least the Gold medal game. But like I said, a Canadian victory would not shock me. Just nice to finally have this much confidence in American hockey, in terms of bringing home the Gold.

Can't wait for the puck to drop!! Should be an epic battle!! U-S-A ALL THE WAY!!!

Pure domination by team USA! Can't wait for the next game! Hopefully Canada can fight hard and get past the powerhouse team Latvia. That way we can have the USA vs Canada matchup that most of us want to see. BRING IT ON!!!

Lol of course... USA has a pretty easy matchup against Czech, they'll be pretty tired on top of that. USA should have absolutely no problem rolling past them

Of course what? The Czechs are a much more formidable opponent than Slovenia or Latvia. Any team with several NHL players will be a tough test. Is there really any question about that? I should be the one saying "of course." Of course some Canadian would try and downplay the toughness of team USA's matchup, while their team gets yet another non-NHL caliber team to play (aside from playing Finland).

It's not like I was singling Canada out. I said Sweden and Canada both have very easy matchups, while the Russians and Americans will both have tougher tests. And that's 100% true.

I'm sorry, did Canada make the rules about the standings ? A little over sensitive I believe. Why don't you complain about Germany or some other country that have half the medals but are ranked higher.

Jeez, the hate is incredible.

My apologies I thought TSN was the only ones ranking in that way. I didn't realize that was the universal Olympic ranking system. Again, no hate at all.

Huh? I didn't compare the teams and the US hasn't even played Russia yet. lol

None of the top teams have played each other.

So this whole "Will be interesting to see how Canada fairs against an actual medal contender." could be said for anyone....

But hey it's popular to hate on the favorites.

Yeah actually you did compare them by saying team USA has also not faced a medal contender (after I referred to Norway and Austria being lucky draws). Team Slovakia is much more respected and has a much better chance for a medal than either Norway or Austria. And it's not my fault that team USA hasn't played their 2nd game yet. The point is, Canada got very lucky with their first 2 draws, compared to team USA who already faced a respectable team and will face a Gold medal contender (and home country) team Russia for their 2nd game.

Apparently stating facts is "hating on the favorites." So so overly sensitive it's almost laughable. lol

Also playing weaker teams off the start is not an advantage for a team like Canada.  If anything it's the opposite.

I couldn't disagree more... Playing weaker teams in the beginning gives them more slack to build up chemistry and have less pressure overall and gives them more time to get their stuff together when they finally do play a medal contender.

Apparently TSN/CBC gives more weight to a gold medal?  The have Slovakia with 1 Gold ranked above Sweden with 5 Silvers and 2 Bronze?  Retarded.

esteef

Yeah and they're tied with USA, Norway and Netherlands for Gold, yet they rank themselves above all 3 despite the fact that all 3 have the same amount of Gold and MORE overall medals. SMH
