#2483886 Official 2014 Olympic Hockey Thread (Admin warning #316)

Also playing weaker teams off the start is not an advantage for a team like Canada.  If anything it's the opposite.

I couldn't disagree more... Playing weaker teams in the beginning gives them more slack to build up chemistry and have less pressure overall and gives them more time to get their stuff together when they finally do play a medal contender.

Apparently TSN/CBC gives more weight to a gold medal?  The have Slovakia with 1 Gold ranked above Sweden with 5 Silvers and 2 Bronze?  Retarded.

esteef

Yeah and they're tied with USA, Norway and Netherlands for Gold, yet they rank themselves above all 3 despite the fact that all 3 have the same amount of Gold and MORE overall medals. SMH

It'll be interesting to see how the US fairs against an actual medal contender as well.  Seeing as they haven't played one either....lol

You really gonna compare Slovakia and Russia, with Norway and Austria??   Okay Slovakia might not be hardcore contenders. But they have a MUCH better chance than either Austria or Norway (whom Canada had trouble with). And like I said team USA's second game is against team Russia. Pretty sure they're medal contenders (hell they're GOLD medal contenders).

Is TSN creating their own way to show the Olympic medal count so Canada ranks higher?

esteef

I noticed that too! At first I thought they were going alphabetically back when Canada was tied with Norway for medals. But now it's pretty obvious they're just keeping Canada as #3 regardless of the medal count. Ridiculous. Inferiority complex much? lol

Wow, Canada sure got lucky getting to start out against Norway and Austria, while team USA has already played a legit team (Slovakia) and are about to play team Russia tomorrow morning. Will be interesting to see how Canada fairs against an actual medal contender.

#2471385 It's time - to predict 2014 Team USA

Paul Martin and Brooks Orpik over Keith Yandle and Dustin Byfuglien??? Sorry but that's absolutely ridiculous.

Go USA and Go Sweden!!!

#2470569 1/4 GDT : Red Wings 5 @ Stars 1

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 04 January 2014 - 03:09 PM

I'd be fine with switching Bert and Tatar.

esteef

Exactly. Or I'd even take switching Tatar and Abby. So sick of undeserving players getting on the top lines while Tatar remains in the bottom 6.

#2465363 Wings call up Sheahan

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 16 December 2013 - 08:11 PM

Oh Sheahan called up? Better put him on the 1st line while keeping one of our best players (Tatar) in the bottom 6...smh

#2462636 12/10 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Panthers 3 (SO)

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 10 December 2013 - 12:38 AM

WELCOME BACK PASHA!

Time to show these kitty cats whos boss.

No offense man, but you should really leave the GDTs to the members who actually use graphics n such. No biggie, just a suggestion. GO RED WINGS!!!! PAVEL FOR THE HAT TRICK!!!

#2462096 Shawn Thornton attacks Orpik (leaves game on stretcher)

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 07 December 2013 - 08:52 PM

I hate the Pens as much as the next Wings fan, but what Thornton did was uncalled for and def not part of the hockey 'code.' Seems almost certain that he will be suspended. Hopefully Orpik is okay.

#2461772 12/6 GDT 7:00PM: Red Wings 3 at Devils 1

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 06 December 2013 - 09:52 PM

All I know is Tatar better be on one of the top 2 lines from now on (even when Pav and Hank return). He continues to prove game after game that he can be a difference maker and a game changer. Time for Abby to head back to the 3rd line where he belongs.

#2456110 11/21 GDT: Hurricanes 3 at Red Wings 4

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 21 November 2013 - 07:16 PM

Lineups tonight per Khan:

Cleary-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi
Franzen-Zetterberg-NYQUIST
Abdelkader-Helm-Tatar
Miller-Anderson-Samuelson

Kronwall-Ericsson
Smith-Quincey
Kindl-Lashoff

Jimmy Howard

I'm happy Nyquist is finally in there, but Cleary on the 1st line??? Come on Babs...smh

#2453702 Cleary in, Tatar out against Caps

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 14 November 2013 - 04:04 PM

Totally disappointed by this... Tatar needs to be in the lineup every night (same goes for Nyquist). Still just can't fathom why we would possibly re-sign Cleary (especially with all our roster/cap issues). Ridiculous...

#2452746 Franzen is back, Cleary to be scratched

I'm actually shocked that Babcock is finally holding Cleary accountable for his total lack of contributions so far this season. Maybe Kenny is starting to realize that signing Cleary when we already had too many forwards was probably not the smartest move (and I love Kenny). Not to mention it forcing us to send Nyquist down to GR, when obviously he should be a permanent regular with the big club.
