#2435538 Osgood to fill in Larry Murphy's job

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 09 September 2013 - 12:49 PM

Glad to hear it. I liked Murph, but obviously they aren't gonna bring him back. Ozzie should do great. And just like Murph, current players respect him and will more likely talk to him, than some suit reporter.

#2435144 Lines Thread

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 05 September 2013 - 02:17 PM

I know Abby finally started to play well on the top line. But let's be real, he's def not a top line guy. He should be on an energy/grit line. And even though Big Bert has had some injury issues, his chemistry with Pavel far exceeds Abby's. Hope Babcock goes with these lines.

#2434508 Teemu Selanne to return for a final season

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 30 August 2013 - 10:02 PM

Are you kidding me? How is he a diver let alone a whiner?

The question is, are you kidding? He's been a diving whiner since his rookie season. And it's only gotten worse with age. Just so happens he is also a very talented goal scoring machine.

#2433676 Wings sign Nyquist to 2-year, $1.9m deal ($950k/yr cap hit)

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 20 August 2013 - 04:23 PM

Time to get my jersey

Personally, I'd hold off on buying a Nyquist jersey till after this current contract ends. This is definitely a "prove it" kind of deal. And if he proves it, then buy his jersey. Otherwise, could be a little risky dropping $200+ on a player that's not quite fully proven yet.

#2432989 U.S. beats Canada 5-1 in junior hockey exhibition

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 10 August 2013 - 02:59 PM

No surprise here. The USA junior team just won gold recently. The young Americans are stacked! Keep it going boys!

#2432640 Joakim Andersson re-signs, 2yrs, $1.465m ($732,500k cap hit)

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 06 August 2013 - 03:22 PM

Per Helena St. James twitter, the deal has an annual cap hit of $732,500.

Yet another smart deal by Holland. Atta boy Kenny!

#2432017 Brunner Contract Talks

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 30 July 2013 - 09:42 PM

Signings have quieted down across the board.  He'll find himself an NHL team willing to give him what he wants before the start of camp, it just won't be the Wings.

Exactly. Hopefully there still aren't people out there holding onto hope that he'll re-sign. It's 100% for sure not happening. There isn't even a slight chance. Even if we do pull off a trade to dump some salary (doesn't seem likely at this point) Kenny will use that to sign No Knees Washed Up Dan Cleary, not Brunner. He would be a Red Wing right now if he would've lowered his asking price a little, and accepted a bottom 6 role with the potential to EARN a top 6 role, not just be handed the spot free and clear.

#2431839 Winnipeg re-signs RFA D Zach Bogosian to 7yr/36m contract

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 29 July 2013 - 04:59 PM

I don't see the outrage here, they are paying for potential, and its not like the Jets have any worries about cap space. Lets judge this contract in 3 years.

Right, and according to 95% of the Jets fans online, they are all very pleased with this deal. And since they watch the guy play every night, im gonna go ahead and agree with them. Good move for the present and future of the Jets blue line.

#2431668 It's time - to predict 2014 Team USA

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 27 July 2013 - 04:40 PM

Just for fun's sake, how many of USA's players could crack Canada's roster in terms of talent?

Maybe Kane, Kessel and Parise?

I would say Quick, Anderson, Howard, Miller, Schneider, Kane, Kessel, Parise, Ryan, Byfuglien, Suter, Yandle (and possibly Kesler with his 2-way skills) would all have a very good chance of cracking Canada's lineup. Although the great thing about the direction USA hockey is going, in another 4 years that number should grow big time. So much young American talent coming up the ranks. Hopefully most of them will develop accordingly.

#2431012 I couldn't help but notice... (rant)

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 20 July 2013 - 04:45 PM

Man, I don't like Crosby but some people have a real complex when it comes to this guy.

Yeah, I mean I hate him as much as the next guy, but they only included him in the ad because we've had a rivalry with the Penguins for years, and now we'll be in the same conference playing each other 3 times a year.

#2430842 Fedorov: ‘We had the chance’ to bring Datsyuk to KHL

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 19 July 2013 - 03:17 PM

Gee, Sergei, thanks for trying to poach Datsyuk away from your old team.

Feds is just doing his job. Is he suppose to say "nah we don't want one of the best players in the world." He then went on to say he completely understands Pavel's decision. So even Fedorov knows which league is the best. He's just trying to make his team as good as he can. No biggie at all

#2430838 Fedorov: ‘We had the chance’ to bring Datsyuk to KHL

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 19 July 2013 - 03:13 PM

“[Datsyuk] said: ‘I want to grow as a player and I think that for me the best option is to stay in the NHL,’” Fedorov explained.

Damn right! The best and most talent-rich league in the WORLD. Why would anyone not named Kovalchuk want to play in a lesser league? If you're already filthy rich it should be a no-brainer to want to play against the best of the best. Sorry KHL, there are Russians that recognize your league as inferior, because it IS.

#2430536 Red Wings popularity in Detroit/Michigan

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 17 July 2013 - 03:44 PM

That's the general consensus because Football and Baseball are the 2 most popular sports in the country. So obv that trickles down to each state. I can say with certainty that the margin between hockey lovers and the other major sports is a lot closer in Michigan than it is in any other state. I've noticed several ESPN polls over the years asking fans what sport event they are most excited about for that particular weekend. And many times their "color coded" map of the U.S. will be mostly one color throughout the entire country, with Michigan being the only state with a different color (the color representing Hockey). Not to mention everyone I know from all diff areas of Michigan that put the Red Wings not just number 1, but number 1 BY FAR over any other sport. I guess that's what happens when you have the best and most consistent hockey team in the world for over 20 years

#2429936 Development Camp Day 1

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 13 July 2013 - 07:15 PM

After today's scrimmage they interviewed Babcock and he said he liked what he saw, but that "other than Mantha, most the players had moments where they looked like prospects." Implying that Mantha never looked like a prospect out there. Really good to hear cause he will only improve. Maybe the kid wasn't so far off when he said he wants to make this team this year or next year.

#2429905 Brunner Contract Talks

Posted by TheDetroitRedWings on 13 July 2013 - 01:38 PM

Even though it's not official yet, twitter is saying the contract has already been verbally agreed on, they just need to get together and sign on the dotted line. So now that we know he's devil, we can now say that Brunner really f***ed up. Now if he had turned Kenny's offer down and signed with a contender for more $ that would make some sense. But for just 500k-1M more he goes from a Cup contender to a non-playoff bottom feeder, that has done nothing but get worse (first Parise, then Clarkson, now Kovy) not to mention an aging, shell of his former self Brodeur who will surely retire after the season. Great move Damien. Hope you're into golf, cause you'll be able to hit the links right after the last day of the regular season
