#2387383 Which things from the past (not just Wings related) do you miss most?

Posted by 55fan on 21 April 2013 - 12:01 PM

Those darn goalie masks.  Gave a bad image to every self-respecting horror movie madman.  One guy puts one on, and the next thing you know, mass murderers have a bad reputation, not to mention the decrease in popularity of the name Jason.  Go bare like pre-Plante, dang it.

Seriously- I like helmets/masks because of the protection they provide, but I miss seeing the guys' hair flowing behind them like they were rock stars (Ron Duguay, anyone?) and I miss the way that they recognized that they were vulnerable.  They knew the difference between hurt and injure and played to hurt.

The game being faster has made it more dangerous, but maybe we've lost something with all this speed.

#2380321 Holland retirement watch?

Posted by Marty Barry on 04 April 2013 - 04:59 PM

Sorry, not ready to erase "In Kenny We Trust" from Red Wings currency.  Besides, it's the entire braintrust of Holland, Nill, Devellano, and ultimately Illitch that have us where we are.  And where we are is a place that half the league would kill to be.  Of course that is just my opinion and my opinion comes after suffering through the "Dead Wings" era and never even entertaining the thought of jumping ship as a fan.  In Kenny I Trust!

Why would Holland retire?  Because some posters on a Red Wings message board want him to?    He isn't going anywhere.  If you can't handle seeing Kenny Holland being the GM of the Red Wings then maybe it's time to start cheering for another team.  If it bothers you that much.

#2379463 Official NHL Trade Deadline thread

I love watching LGW members going into meltdown mode lol

#2378806 An interesting point about our apparent deadline strategy

I love it - one thread bemoaning Hollands passivity.  Another thread praising it.

Man, this board is getting as bi-polar as our team.  I haven't seen it split like this since the Great Enforcer Wars of 4-5 years ago.

#2376177 Wings sign D Dan DeKeyser to 2-year deal

Posted by Chelios57 on 29 March 2013 - 05:02 PM

What a stupid decision. I would prefer to dump Huskins and have him wear #3. 65 is just so meh. Also 6 is available too.

Larry Aurie's #6

Fake Phaneuf

Toughest Kesler

Clown Perron

Classiest Datsyuk

If Kesler is tough, then I'm Steve McQueen.

#2374378 Wings Make Offer to Danny D!

Posted by DSM on 26 March 2013 - 12:51 PM

How many of you are gonna cry if he doesn't sign with us?

I just can't wait for this whole "Dekeyidstrom" circus to be over. I laugh when posters talk like this kid (who has never seen anything close to NHL action) is going to be a huge boost to the Wings for the rest of this season. Makes me wonder if any of them have ever heard of a guy named Ray Staszak...

Ticked because they get an AHL caliber defenseman and we dont?

Right now this guy's a stud at the NCAA level...Last time I checked the NHL is light years away in terms of talent/maturity.

If Edmonton gets Dekeyser I'm gonna be ticked.

#2373726 Douglas Murray to Pittsburgh, Confirmed, Awaiting full details

Posted by ogreslayer on 25 March 2013 - 01:16 PM

My favorite comment on the two Pens' trades this week so far:

Based on the acquisitions of Morrow and Murray, I think it’s safe to say the Penguins are going all-in on winning the 2010 Stanley Cup.

#2370922 Kostitsyn Gives Up - Goes for Line Change

Incredibly lazy and selfish decision. I can hear Don Cherry now.

He'll talk about that Saturday night no doubt.

Then, he'll show a video about some Canadian junior player fighting, and give us a spirited promotion of Canada's mighty military.

#2366644 Should Visors Be Mandatory In The NHL

Posted by Drake_Marcus on 08 March 2013 - 12:20 PM

If the players weren't employees being paid millions of dollars a year to work I'd agree that to some extent it's a personal choice.  But let's be honest-- each of these guys represent a pretty sizeable financial investment by the individual owners and in the end it's reasonable to want to protect that investment.  You can't tell your boss you refuse to wear a hard hat on the job site because it violates your personal liberty-- you're welcome to quit with your liberty intact but if they're paying you to work on site they have the right to require you to take reasonable safety precautions.
