Frank, you and I have had our differences, but I agree with you.

 

The Wings playoff streak is nice, but I would rather see the Wings really compete every few years than just make the playoffs and die in the first or second round every year.  The problem is that Wings fans as a whole would hate to see them tank for 2-3 years just to rebuild.

 

I don't know that too many ppl are screaming for a complete rebuild and I don't know that even what you're saying (tanking for 2-3 yrs) is even necessary.  To me, the Wings aren't legi contenders right now so things like defensive depth going into the playoffs shouldn't be a huge factor for them.  Personally, I would like to see them makes some trades of depth players (i.e. White, Colo, Huskins, and even maybe some of the depth forwards) that way they get assets (draft picks) in return (since at the deadline these depth players are more valuable) plus it frees up roster flexibility this summer. 

 

I think we are used to the Wings being contenders (whether they truly were in previous years or not, the mind set was that they were) so we're not used to moving roster players.  So now, if the Wings do move roster players it implies tanking/rebuilding.  But so long as you core is in tact I wouldnt consider it tanking. 

Honestly, it is bad enough the Wings have a bad case of nostalgia (and selective nostalgia, at that) with many of these dropped-off, past-their-prime, or reclaimation-project players, but have you ever seen a team hand out so many NTC/NMC?

 

EDIT: Maybe not, according to CapGeek, only Pavel, Sammy, Cleary, Bertuzzi, Kronwall, and Ericsson have them currently, and Cleary's may have expired already. Just seems whenever someone is playing like crap and the fanbase is looking to drum them out of town, "Wah Wah, NTC". Maybe we're getting better at it.

I would go with Kindl and Quincey I think, waive Huskins to GR and let Colaiacovo be the 7th guy.

Not sure it would be enough for COL but that would be my ideal offer as well.  I'd even consider including Andersson and making the 2nd a 3rd.

I'd actually like to see Tootoo on the 3rd line tonight.  I'd imagine this would be the perfect game to up his minutes.

In the two games he's played so far I've noticed two things I really like about Kindl this season.  He seems more confident with the puck, and more importantly, he seems to be using his size and strength a little bit more.  In both games I've noticed him taking guys into the boards very hard.  Good for him.

I completely agree with that assessment.  Kindl also seems to be a bit more engaging - meaning he's taking the body to opposing players instead of getting hit.  He seems to be less timid

It's also kinda funny that the second D pairing on the PP is Smith/Kindl as opposed to Smith/Quincey.  Say what you want about Quincey's game right now, he has shown to have good offensive/PP qualitites.  It seems as though the Wings are intent on transforming Quincey into a D first, and only, type of d-man

Personally I'd like to see the entire roster in GR...at least the Griffs would finally make the playoffs

I think Ericsson will surprise the most.  That doesnt mean that all the blind haters will ever admit it but I think he has a shot to prove to be a legit top 4 this year.

I understand what you are saying but from what I have seen on these boards lately most of the personal attacks are in reference to some posts that in themselves could be considered trolling.  Obviously some personal attacks are random or unjustified but just as we should all refrain from making personal attacks in our posts there are some posters, in my opinion, who should refrain from pretty evident trolling.  

Personally, I would like to see those trolling posts disciplined just as personal attack posts will be.

It's not that Holland didn't get Suter, it's that getting Suter was apparently his only f***in' plan.  And now he's scrambling to fill a hole he knew was coming for years because his brilliant plan of waiting til the last minute didn't work out.  But don't let that stop all the Holland poodles from defending him.

Posters like you fail to realize that Holland's plan was to have Smith ready for a full time spot this year and adding Quincey at the deadline.  Just because a lot of posters don't like Quincey or are scared because Smith is a rookie doesn't mean that Holland didn't plan.  You, and a lot of other posters, are scared of the Wings current d-corps because it's not as name worthy as it obviously was for the last 20 years with Lidstrom.  But Holland and co. felt that they added a top-4 guy in Quincey and then hoped to add Suter.  It wasn't Suter or bust for them...even if it was for you.

The Wings brass feel that both Ericsson and Quincey will play to top 4 abilities this season and they can be added to Kronwall and White for a competitive top 4.  They also like both Kindl and Smith as their 5/6.  Just because you happen to disagree with their assessment of where these players fit into the depth chart doesn't mean you should be making outrageous claims like Holland didn't plan and is now scrambling.

Nothing against Doan as a hockey player but I've never liked him.  His comments after PHO lost this year really cemented, in my mind, my dislike for the guy.  That being said, he is definitely the type of player the Wings need.  I think he would thrive here so if the Wings sign him I'd actually be pretty happy.
