#2384557 Blues vs Hawks

Posted by Euro_Twins on 14 April 2013 - 12:34 PM

Yeah, it's a good, physical game. THIS is hockey! Not the candy-ass tiptoe through the tulips game The Red Wings play on most nights. Rivalries are what make hockey; unfortunately, The Red Wings have no rivalries anymore, mostly because they do not engage in physical play due to the Charmin soft teams Ken Holland has assembled since Bowman's retirement.

Right, cause we've never had a physical team since 2002

#2382282 Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs

Posted by evilmrt on 08 April 2013 - 03:24 PM

I really want us to make the playoffs because I believe anything can happen once your in.  But at the same time, I have not been disappointed with this season.  If we miss, we know we have given it our best effort, and we are setting ourselves up for the future.

I think the positives this season outweigh the negatives.  The development of our young guys has been great.  Also, our Defense is turing into a solid, VERY young group.  That is huge for future success.

And if we miss the playoffs, we get a decently high pick to add to the system.  That would be huge to go with our prospects now.

I see what you're saying, and I agree on one hand.....but on the other hand, you have to factor in the demoralization of missing the playoffs for the first time since before Dekeyser, Lashoff, and Nyquist were even born. That is a big factor worth considering.

It will be a shame if the Wings don't make the post-season... almost inconceivable.  Yes, I do think that word means what I think it means. ;)

If that happens, it's not like the Wings didn't try and didn't know it could happen.  They're doing their best with the situation.  That I believe... not sure more bodies or different ones (for too much money) would have made that big a difference in Year One of our Lidstrom-less existence.

Guys missing from last years team:

Lidstrom

Holstrom

Stuart

Hudler

Bertuzzi

Helm

that's 6 regulars out 18 regular skaters -  fully 1/3 of the team.

Veteran guys that they brought in to help

Coliaccavo

Sammuelson

Tootoo

2 of the 3 have missed almost the entire season.

Rookies that are filling in:

Lashof

Smith

Kindl (partial season experience)

Andersson

Nyquist/Kindl

Based on this, just to make the playoffs have been a struggle.

I am glad we didn't mortgage our future.  One or two more expensive free agents were not going to replace the 1/3 of the team that we lost.

#2382229 Going forward with what we have

Posted by kipwinger on 08 April 2013 - 12:46 PM

Based on what we have right now, I think our best case scenario looks like...

Bert-Dats-Franzen

Filppula-Helm-Zetterberg

Brunner-Andersson-Nyquist/Tatar

Tootoo-Abby-Miller

Kronwall-Ericsson

Kindl-Quincey

Smith-Dekeyser/Lashoff

I heard rumors that Pulkkinen is heading to Grand Rapids too. They have a Calder Cup team there, interesting times.

Decently?

That about sums up why they lost.

Wings deserved to lose.  Did nothing right offensively.

Oh come on, dude. Both teams were playing a tight defensive game and not generating a lot of offense. I thought the Wings did a lot of good things today. Of course you're gonna find mistakes and miscues if you're looking for them, but I'm not gonna bite on the negativity here lately. I love my team, playoffs or not. LGW.

#2378824 An interesting point about our apparent deadline strategy

Posted by Crymson on 02 April 2013 - 04:14 PM

Can't wait to see what Crymson has to say...

It's funny that you ask this. I was writing a post---it would have been the first response---and then halfway through decided that it just wasn't worth it. I've been doing that quite a bit on here lately; I'm finding myself more inclined to ignore opinions I consider completely absurd than I am to respond to them. Because why bother?

That said, thank you for the shout out; I'm glad I'm so notorious as a positive voice here.

Edit: hey, why not ask a couple of questions anyway? Here goes! OP: first off, what will you do if the Wings succeed, in spite of your guarantee (whatever that's worth) to the contrary, in making the playoffs. And second, what, exactly, is so novel to you about great players residing on non-contender teams?

#2377324 Lindy Ruff an option?

Posted by GoWings1905 on 31 March 2013 - 02:50 PM

Babcock has done a marvelous job this season. He can only do so much with this patchwork roster his GM has provided.

#2377333 Lindy Ruff an option?

Posted by Crymson on 31 March 2013 - 02:58 PM

It's not Babcock's fault when terrible bounces happen, or when Cleary has a brainfart and horribly blows coverage, or when Kindl puts the puck in his own net, and so on and so forth.

#2373819 Wings Make Offer to Danny D!

Posted by Johnz96 on 25 March 2013 - 04:58 PM

Source w/knowledge of process believes Detroit, Anaheim, Nashville, Edmonton, St. Louis and Tampa Bay are strongest contenders for DeKeyser.

If he signs with any other team, it'll be because they opened the bank for him.

All the teams interested will offer the maximum allowed so the bank will have nothing to do with it

#2373003 Larry Murphy Fired by FSD

Posted by TheXym on 24 March 2013 - 03:35 PM

In all seriousness, it sucks that Murph was let go. He came across as the guy you could sit down and have a few beers with and discuss the game. He knows his stuff. He may not have been the most polished, but I enjoyed him on the broadcasts. He definitely loves Detroit and the Wings, and I hope he gets picked up by the organization. I think he'd be a great coach.

#2372872 Perron's ridiculous dive.

Posted by Opie on 24 March 2013 - 10:01 AM

I have a better idea, state in the rule that a dive automatically negates the penalty on the other team.
