#2684819 Ryspayev Should Be Banned.. Disgusting.

Takes quite a beating at the end there from Alexander Svitov.

Gets a few in at the beginning, but doesn't really do much against Evgeny Artyukhin. So he's real comfortable running around taking shots at guys who have no intention of fighting back, but can't really hang with guys who are used to dropping the gloves.

I don't see why he was suspended. So he made a bunch of Russian ******* turtle and run....

KHL should've just shipped him off to North America as punishment. The NHL isn't the rough and tumble league it once was, but I can easily name you 50 NHLers off the top of my head who would kick the s*** out of this guy.

Have we had any  good fighters since Downey? I don't consider Abdelkader a good one. Maybe for today's standards he might be decent.

May and Tootoo.

Even by today's standards, Abdelkader isn't anything special. Not terrible, but not intimidating at all.

Ott has never been a good fighter, but his career total of 100 NHL fighting majors tells you he doesn't mind doing it.

#2684286 Red Wings All-Bust Roster

Posted by Bring Back The Bruise Bros on 31 July 2016 - 07:17 PM

Whoever thinks Cleary was a bust probably has zero clue what "bust" means. And is likely equating typical "I hate Dan Cleary" narrative with the concept of being a "bust".

Aside from winning a Stanley cup with us he also scored the OT game winner against Anaheim in 2009. Not to mention he had two 20 goal seasons, a 26 goal season and scored more points than Datsyuk did in the playoffs at least 3 different times. Also scored more goals than Zetterberg did in 2011. So it's not even "efforts". He actually produced better than our star players did at times. And not just one time. Multiple times.

His last playoffs with the Red Wings was in 2012-2013 where he scored 4 goals and 10 points whereas Dats scored 3 goals 9 points. Both played exactly 14 games.

So lol.

Can't believe I just had to defend Dan Cleary. He might have been a washed up player for the last 3 or 4 years who no longer belonged in the line up, but the guy was no bust. He made a career here when the Red Wings gave him a chance. And he won a Stanley cup in the process.

Not many people in the league can say that about themselves. And not many teams can say that about other players they give opportunities to. Usually when a team gives a chance to a player whose career is falling apart or declining, they end up being a bust. Not Dan Cleary though. That guy ended up winning a Stanley cup, recovering his falling career and went onto play 10 more seasons with a successful franchise.

Totally agree. Walked on in 2005 and busted his ass from then on out. His stay here was a few seasons too long, but Cleary belongs nowhere near this list.

I'm at the point where I don't have any confidence that Holland will pull off a big trade to bring in that much needed top pair defenseman. I don't buy that he's unable to, or we don't have the pieces other teams want, I just think he's unwilling to give up the assets to get it done. I think a package including Nyquist / Tatar, plus a prospect and / or pick(s) would be enough to get a top pair defenseman, he's just not willing to put together the necessary pieces to get such a deal done...

He's overvaluing our roster players and prospects. Tomas Jurco is not someone to get hung up on when talking about piecing him together with other parts for a top defenseman. It just baffles me. We have 30 forwards signed and competing for roster spots. Pay the price and move on. It's really getting old hearing him justify being a cheapass.

These are the kind of deals good GMs make happen. They see a glaring need and they do what they have to in order to fix it. You're not going to get a bargain for a top defenseman.

Unless he gets significantly better, if he's the cornerstone of the defense, the team is screwed

Exactly what I'm thinking. He'll likely continue to improve, but he's not #1 material.

I don't mind the deal. Maybe a little more than I would have wanted in terms of salary, but I can live with it. However, we still need significant help on defense.

Ok, no ott or miller....still have helm.

Tatar - Nielson - Vanek
Zetterberg - Larkin - Abdelkader
Jurco - AA - Nyquist
Helm - Sheahan - Glendening
Frk since he has no exemptions & Tangradi maybe

I'd much rather have Mantha up and no helm as well. Plus I'm still hoping Nyquist gets dealt in a D trade....but...

Dude, do you not like the Helm deal or something?

#2683854 Glendening signs 4-year, $1.8m AAV extension

Posted by Bring Back The Bruise Bros on 25 July 2016 - 06:58 PM

Most overrated qualities in an NHL player:

1. Grit

2. Penalty killing

3. Faceoff win percentage

Only makes sense that Glendening does all 3 of these pretty well

1. "Grit" is also one of the worst-defined terms on this site. What is grit? Is it fighting? Blocking shots? Finishing hits? Winning puck battles along the boards? I'd say it's a combination of all those things. With the exception of fighting, I'd say all of those things are imperative to winning games, especially in the playoffs. One of the major reasons Tampa was able to dispose of Detroit in 5 was because their forechecking wore down our defense and forced turnovers. Additionally, they won a ton of 50/50 puck battles along the boards.

2. Again, you can't have a deep playoff run unless you have a reliable core of PK specialists. I agree that some players' effectiveness on the penalty kill is used to justify their position on the team, specifically in the case of Drew Miller. He doesn't provide much else besides his role on the PK. Very little offense, not particularly fast, and ineffective on the forecheck.

3. This is ludicrous. Games are won and lost in the faceoff circle. Puck-possession is the name of the game. This is one of the most bat-s*** crazy things I've read on here in a long time.

The only way I'd be down with Streit would be if we got rid of Ericsson or Howard. He's not worth Jurco or any of the younger players.

#2682341 Steve Ott signs 1 year, $800k deal with Detroit

Posted by Bring Back The Bruise Bros on 05 July 2016 - 10:17 PM

I've had a love/hate relationship with Ott, but I'm looking forward to the physical element that he'll bring to the fourth line. It's too early to tell what his role will be on the team, but I think he's capable of playing regular fourth line minutes. With Miller returning from injury and Pulkkinen out to start the season, it seems like he'll see some playing time. I'm excited about this.

I know one thing, I'm gonna be thoroughly disappointed if we sign Frans Nielsen for 5.5/5yrs. That's his rumored ask, and he keeps popping up in rumors linked to us. McKenzie mentioned Ladd as a name we might be in on, I'd be down with that.

This is what I'm thinking:

- I'd be cool with Andrew Ladd or David Backes (preferably a shorter contract)

- Especially for his asking price, I don't want Nielsen.

- We should be taking a good look at Jamie McGinn. He isn't getting a ton of attention but he can play throughout the lineup and adds physicality up front.

- If we're seriously looking at dealing a defenseman, Ericsson should be the prime candidate to ship out of town. Smith, while he isn't going to wow anyone with his offensive capabilities, had a decent season last year.

- Helm isn't a top 6 player. More power to him to find a spot on someone else's second line.

- We've obviously got to add to our blueline. Guys like Tatar/Nysuist, Jurco and Pulkkinen should be pieces sent in return.

- Rather than overpay for a guy like Matt Martin, bring in Mike Brown. He'll basically do the same thing, skates pretty well, and would be a lot cheaper. If Martin could be had for the right price, absolutely close the deal. Bottom line is the 4th line could use a different element.

- Stay away from Filppula and Hudler, for crying out loud.

I'd love Martin for the right price. Someone else will overpay, so I'm not really getting my hopes up.

Loooch brings entertainment and can act as a bodyguard for some players. If the term is right I wouldn't be against it although he doesn't fix the huge need for a number 1 center and defenseman so yeah.

He brings a physical element, but the term is not going to be reasonable. He's only going to get slower at this point, and he was noticeably slower than his linemates last year.

3 years at under $4.5 per or it's too much

He'll be looking for at least 5 years at $5 mil + per year.

No way Holland throws the bank at this clown.

Detroit is rumored to be interested in Lucic. As much as I think we need to get heavier and more difficult to play against, throwing a 6-year contract at Lucic would be an idiotic move. I just don't see Holland doing it. I don't see his production rising much, if at all, for the rest of his career. Let Edmonton or Vancouver make that mistake.
