He's made a great comeback since coming here in 2005/2006, but it is time for him to hang 'em up. He's just not effective anymore. Guy played with heart, grit, and determination in his best days, but he just looks out of it a lot of the time now.
I'd be upset if we brought him back at this point in his career.
No reason to sign Tootoo if you aren't going to play him in a tough, physical playoff series.
He brings more hitting and energy than our other lower line players.
This.
Doesn't make any sense to me. It's not like he's a goon that can't skate for his life. He can skate a regular shift and he's built for the playoffs. It shocks me that he isn't playing.
If Filppula is really looking for around $5 mil, he can walk. 14 points in 32 games? See ya.
Cleary has had a solid career since coming here after the lockout, but he is no longer effective. 12 points in 39 games. We need to start getting younger. Cleary needs to go.
Bertuzzi and Samuelsson need to go. Both are extremely injury-prone. We need to get younger.
A lot of players making an immediate impact for their new teams.
-Jagr scored in his first game with Boston.
-Clowe scored twice in his first game with NYR.
-Gaborik scored in his first game with Columbus.
-Rosehill scored in his first game with Philly.
Clowe is definitely tougher then Stewart. But Stewart is still pretty tough for a guy who can scrap half decent. Clarkson is who I would be afte though
I think Clowe will be the easiest to obtain, given his offensive struggles this season. I'd be happy with any of them, to be honest.
I like Clarkson but don't think he's a "must get."
And honestly I don't think Clowe or Stewart are "must gets" either.
Stewart has been on fire lately. If at any point he is available, we should make an attempt to get him here.
I'd be cool with trading Filppula, but I don't want us giving him away for nothing. I'd trade him for Nathan Horton. Both are UFAs at the end of the season. From the sounds of it, Filppula is gonna want upwards of $5 mil/year, an amount I don't feel he's worth. He's likely hit his peak and he's a bit older. Boston probably won't go for it at this point in the season, though.
Guys like Horton are the kind of guys we need to be targeting with us moving to the east.
Tootoo better not be benched again. There is no justifiable reason for benching a guy that literally gives it all out there every shift. He's not half the defensive liability that Emmerton is.
I don't see the problem. Once Bertuzzi and Samuelsson get back, we'll be back in playoff form. Cleary has played great with Datsyuk. Also, benching Tootoo was a solid move by Babs last night. Guys that play with energy on every shift are useless. I like our team, too. No moves need to be made right now. If anything, re-sign Filppula for $5 mil/year, since he's definitely earned it with his stellar play.
It should be the players choice, really. I don't mind it being mandatory in the minor leagues, but grown men should be able to make that choice for themselves.
