#1999101 Study on checking in youth leagues shows higher brain injury risk

Posted by Bring Back The Bruise Bros on 13 June 2010 - 07:02 PM

I'm for the physical part to the game, just felt this was an interesting article to discuss.

http://www.npr.org/t...oryId=127748445

Study compares an Alberta 11+yr old league w/ checking and a Quebec non checking league. Regardless of the speaker making hockey sound disgusting, the whole article is more about what age kids should start body checking (not if they should).

I'm sick of hearing about this s***.Its hockey.if you don't like being hit, don'tf****** play.its a traditionally violent sport. As Mike Milbury puts it,pansification of this game needs to stop.

#1999020 How much better would we be looking with Leino and Kopecky

Posted by Bring Back The Bruise Bros on 13 June 2010 - 03:25 PM

Somewhere in French Canada, Martin Lapointe is lifting weights and grooming his beard, wondering what happened to his career ever since he left Detroit.

Although, he did get paid big bucks by Boston, so maybe it wasn't a total failure for him.

He's probably chillin with Mathieu Dandenault.

...this would've work cap-wise

Franzen-Datsyuk-Holmstrom
Filppula-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi
Hudler-Helm-Cleary
Leino-Abdelkader-Kopecky
Draper

Lidstrom-Rafalski
Kronwall-Stuart
Ericsson-Lilja
Kindl

Howard
Osgood

looks like a championship squad to me.

You know what, that does look like a championship ballerina team.Good call.

Damn you no cap space Ott Sun is reporting LA wont be re-signing Frolov and could possibly go after both Marleau and Kovy.

I can see Marleau in Los Angeles since he said he wants to stay west.I don't see Kovalchuk in any NHL uniform again, tho.

#1999011 Tollefsen headed to Sweden

He would never crack the roster here anyway.

#1995256 6th Defenseman

exelby is a guy I've wanted on the wings for a while ever since he laid out sundin. I think he would be the perfect 6th defenseman for this team.

Agreed. He's got plenty of snarl, which we desperately need.

Not every finnish player is god, you know that right?

One way or another, every Finnish player has some god given skill, according to him.

I doubt Conboy would be the wings 6th guy. They may sign him to be like a Janik type from this year but Conboy could hardly crack Carolinas line up so what are his chances with the wings?

That's very true, but the thing that would be nice about Conboy is that he can play forward too.Played as a forward during his short time up with the 'Canes last year.

How many of those guys are actually UFAs though?

I know Erskine isn't but I would like him here.

The list should be good now.Sorry about that. Now take a look.

Yeah looking through the free agent list I thought Boychuk would be a possibility but I was thinking he would get a bit of a raise and be a bit to expensive for the wings cap situation.

I'm thinking our 6th dman this year is going to be getting no more then about 1.2 million or so.

He's gonna have to be cheap. Here's some guys that pop into my head in addition to the guys you mentioned:

Sean O'Donnell-Veteran Presence, still physical and fights
Andy Sutton-May be too expensive, but he would be my choice
Jay Leach-Cheap,big,physical,fights
Tim Conboy-Same as Leach
Aaron Johnson-Someone mentioned him earlier. He'd be a good fit
Willie Mitchell-Main problem with him is $$$
Carlo Colaiacovo-Physical and good puck handler.Main knock is injury history.
Jay McKee-Would be a good mentor for Ericsson.Classic stay at home guy.

I appreciate the Kindl gesture, but it's getting a Lilja late. I think its time for me to Joakim Homer, so I'm going to bid you Osgood night

Datsounds good.I'm in sort of a janik myself,as I need to get rest soon too.Zetter hit the hay as well.

I honestly don't know how to respond to that. Seriously, I'm Drewing a blank.

When it came to looking for an idea to reply to that,I was basically babbing for apples.I'm in kind of a Jiri to get a reply posted.

One things for sure. We're gonna be seeing Cleary skies for a long time.

Seems you came to this conclusion with relative Eaves.
