#2393367 Players who showboat after scoring

Posted by unsaddleddonald on 01 May 2013 - 07:15 PM

In general I can't stand it.

I understand that guys should be happy when they score, so I understand that I may be viewed as a sour puss for this.

I just saw Pascal Dupuis (20 goals this year) score, skate away, go to one knee, and scream as if he had just scored his first career goal. He made it 2-0 in game 1. I thought he may pull a Tyler Kennedy/Evgeni Malkin and jump into the boards.

As a Wings fan, I think I may have a little bias since I don't think we've ever really had a guy who acts like that after a goal. Hossa was close to being that, but he never really went over the top.

I think a lot of the young guys in the league (my generation) are to "blame" for this. Let's face it: Generation Y loves the spotlight and loves the attention.

#2391374 Jim Nill to be named Dallas Stars GM

Jim Nill will be the Stars GM because Joe Nieuwendyk got his pants pulled down by Ray Shero.....twice.....

Guys chill out with the Jimmy Howard rant. Jimmy is a great season goalie and has been this year. He still has to prove himself as a playoff goalie. I think people who are on his case need to lay off a bit cuz he's actually doing good right now and those of you who are worshipping him need to take a step back and wait until he gives us some playoff depth. We're jumping to conclusions too quickly with him. He's been solid thus far this year, lets hope he can continue this into the postseason. Remember, we haven't gotten past the second round in the playoffs since Jimmy took over from Ozzy in 2010. Let's hope this is the year Jimmy can pull a Jonathon Quick and get us far.

Well.... Technically in the 7 seasons in the NHL, Franzen has only had 1 "30 goal" season. He's more of a high 20's scorer. But yes, we see your point.

We also haven't had consistent offense or defense since 09 (offense) and 08 (defense-McLellan leaving).

God, I hate these threads.

I respect that everyone has their own opinion, but to constantly go up and down the roster with one's "evaluations" is a tired topic.

Granted I didn't read most of it, but to have Franzen in the bottom six with Filppula in the top six? Where am I? What year is it?

#2388233 Someone needs to change "JIMMY HOWARD!" to "JIMMY...JI

For a fanbase that gave birth to "OZZIE...OZZIE!" you would think we could chant "JIMMY...JIMMY!"

#2386716 Putting Hank's goal scoring problems into perspective.

Posted by unsaddleddonald on 19 April 2013 - 10:57 AM

He's got 4 fewer goals and 3 fewer points than Datsyuk.  Neither are exploding with offense, but I think neither are the problem either.  If you are asking more form them, you are probably asking too much.  Datsyuk is producing at pretty much the same rate as he did last year and Hank is actually up a bit from last year (points perspective, goals only very slightly down).  Did a lot think they should have produced more last year and hope this year was better?  Perhaps, but that may be unrealistic as well....they are only getting older.

I think it is just magnified when the team as a whole is not scoring goals. When your team isn't scoring, you look to your top guys.

And I guess the reality is this: he has nearly a point per game and is in the top 15 (?) in league scoring, and yet this team needs MORE from him. That probably says more about the team itself than Hank.

We cannot score. When will people understand this. 12 Dekeysers and 4 Howards on the ice, and we still CANNOT SCORE. Either we add 2 snipers in the off season and dump our garbage (white, Colo, Bert, Sammy, filppula, cleary) or we watch low scoring one goal losses for a while. Its not rocket science.

Mods, please take this statement and pin it at the top of the forums.

There is way too much truth in this statement.

Not dumb luck.  How many times does the goalie stop the puck for the defenseman to pickup?  A million times a game?  It's a routine play that they bobbled, bumbled, and ultimately got scored on.  Luck had nothing to do with it.  Execution did.

Also, good teams that play good rise to the occasion in "must win" situations.  They score on one of their million powerplay chances.  They beat the worst team in the conference.  They do lots of things.  What they don't do is commit a litany of mental errors which ultimately give the game to the opposition on a night when their main competitors for the playoffs beat the second best team in the conference in a nearly identical situations.

Good teams beat teams that are asking to be beat.

yes... like i said, we need more goals, we can't win if we can't score. Saying the team didn't play well however is incorrect, Calgary had no business winning tonight,

It doesn't matter that they played well if they don't win.

I'm really not trying to get under your skin or anything, but moral victories don't produce 2 points.

Bottom line: score goals or get out.

I 100% agree that he's this team's MVP and we'd be in a lot of trouble without him.  I also agree that goal scoring is our biggest problem.

But that doesn't mean that he never deserves blame - and in particular he's got to take a lot of responsibility for this game.  What I found particularly inexcusable (as I said before) was his COMPLETE lack of effort to get back in the net on the third goal.  That was embarrassing.

Middle ground: the blame of this loss is 50% on Jimmy and 50% on the offense.

Did Jimmy Howard forget to drink his coffee and look extremely slow and disinterested on both goals? You're in a playoff race. You have to be on your toes, never taking your eyes off the puck, thinking at 100 mph about the next play. Not waddling around behind the net like a baby penguin expecting something to happen.

To blame Jimmy for this loss would imply that the team in front of him deserved to win.

They scored (for all intents and purposes) ONE GODDAMN GOAL.

Not Jimmy's fault.

Was it Jimmy Howard that failed to capitalize on all of those scoring chances?

Did Jimmy Howard have a TERRIBLE line change on that PP that left no one behind the goal line except Jimmy, Steve Begin, and the trapezoid?

Did Jimmy Howard throw the puck into his feet from Big E's stick?

It is not Jimmy Howard's fault the Red Wings lack a legitimate scoring threat.

This is how Calgary played us last time too. They routinely have 3 guys high on the forecheck and we can't break it. Even when we do, we lack enough team speed to really make them pay.

#2385656 Franzen.... cares?!

Posted by unsaddleddonald on 17 April 2013 - 02:31 PM

Franzen is such a talented power forward. I just wish he had that grittiness that guys like clarkson and callahan have

Franzen's talent + Cleary's drive and desire =  pretty good hockey player.

We have the technology, we can build him...

To win, they must score.

Score more goals.

LOL, you mean like this?
Johan Franzen cranks Kevin Shattenkirk 1 Feb 2013 St. Louis Blues vs Detroit Red Wings NHL Hockey

Better hold on to that one. That's a pretty rare find.
