Howard consistently is the best player on the ice. Wings are going to have to play smarter. They can't match Chicago for speed, so working harder won't help.
@D_Mac25: What a f'ing joke - Abby gets 2 games for playing hockey how I grew up playing it. The way it should be (cont) http://t.co/lb1gd0ynkQ
Read the whole tweet. I'd give anything to have a player like Mac again, who makes the other teams look over their shoulders and worry... even a little... about taking liberties with our guys. Miss you, Mac.
I know Weber should have been suspended, but it wasn't a hit, that's all I'm saying. It's outrageous that weber got away with what he did, but that doesn't mean Abby should hey away too. Hopefully the consistency improves
Weber's attack on Z wasn't a hit. Pronger and Neederweiner assaulting Homer wasn't a hit, either, but at least it was noted by the league as unacceptable.
Essentially, Abby never intended to target Lydman's head... the hit went wrong, Abby's a dork, and he got punished for it. I think some people are angry because our players seem to get attacked in very dangerous fashions (i.e., Perry kicking Jimmy Howard in the head with a razor sharp skate -- Marlachuk, anyone??) and NOTHING happens. Ho hum....
Some hits are bad, suspendable, deplorable. Attacks which could injure or kill one of our players? OK!
I think most decisions on suspensions are subjective and open to (endless) argument... however, I do have trouble understanding the Weber assault on Z, aside from the fact that the NHL wanted an expansion team to move on, not the Wings.
If reckless contact to the head was the reason for suspension why isn't Perry suspended for losing control of his skate and kicking Howard in the HEAD
I think it has to do with Howard being "just a Red Wing."
All I can say is, if the Wings are not furious and fired up to win by this latest travesty of so-called justice, then perhaps there's a reason they won't move on. They have to respond tomorrow on the ice, appropriately, by out-playing the classless Ducks and beating them, fair and square.
This means watching their hits, staying out of the box (legitimately - nothing much they can do about bad calls and non-calls), and giving Jimmy some help --- and some GOALS, for heaven's sake.
There really is no option, other than to go home with a whimper and allow this nonsense to happen to them. I think this team is better than that, personally.
