Please, Buffalo is far and away a football town that casually watches the Sabres... and in fact root against them when they're playing the yotes at the end of the season. Shameful.
I don't think motorcity was saying that hockey was the most popular sport in Buffalo, just that they are die hard, good hockey fans. Because after all, if we went by that criteria (most popular team/sport to root for in a particular town), Detroit wouldn't be considered a hockey town either.
I don't live in Buffalo but have spent a lot of time there over the past 20 years and I agree with motorcity, Buffalo is a very solid hockey town.
A worse version of Babcock that can't get an even more talented team than the Wings out of the first round? Hitchcock wears on his players within a couple years everywhere he goes. Blashill already has a relationship with most of the roster in Detroit. I get the inexperience angle, but Hitchcock doesn't make sense to me given the situation here and the Red Wings plans to continue getting younger.
It's a much needed change, after a lot of first round playoff exits and the same formula being implemented year after year, something needs to give. A fresh coach is always a new beginning, new strategies, line combinations, and maybe a bit more logical use with our prospects. It's time to give some of the kids a shot on D all season and working towards our future.
Best wishes to Babcock, and all he did while he was here in Detroit. Toronto is a complete disaster, and I hope he knows what he's getting into there. No sour feelings on my end.
