#2609184 Coaching Search Thread a.k.a. the Jeff Blashill Thread

Posted by dropkickshanahans on 20 May 2015 - 05:38 PM

My perfect scenario that was never gonna happen was Blashill as the head coach with Babcock in a more senior role.

I remember when Babs started in Detroit he said in an interview that 10 years is about the longest you should ever stay in one place professionally - so it seemed obvious he was going to look for a change.

I think Blashill as head coach will be a positive for the organization. A new voice, and someone who knows the future leaders of this team better than anyone. He'll be great for integrating guys like Pulkkinen, Marchenko, Ouellet, Athanasiou and Mantha into NHL roles. I'm hopeful at least. But it's important to get a good replacement for Blash in GR. That's my only serious concern.

A new voice? He sounds exactly like Babs... it'll be like he never left!  :tounge:

#2539738 So next gen consoles? Who is making the jump

This is my take on it. If you are going into it expecting it to be a true console MMO like World of Warcraft, you will likely be disappointed because the content just isn't there.

If you approach it like a shooter with RPG elements that has co-op play and competitive multiplayer, I feel like it shines in both areas of the game. to get certain gear and equipment, you must participate in online modes like Strike and Cruicible, which is like mini-raids and online deathmatch/objective based gameplay. Each mode gives you unique rewards and access to things that only those modes offer.

There is a lot to do, a long way to progress up to level 30 if you want to dedicate the time, and it really shines cooperatively. I wouldn't be enjoying it if I was attempting to go at it alone, I don't think Strikes or Raids are really possible to finish single player as they are extremely difficult as it is doing them cooperatively, but you at least have the team mates to revive you and continue the battle.

I would say go for it, because I like it a lot personally, and I think a lot of the negative reviews from people come from those who thought it was going to be a lot more and larger than what it turned out to be.

I can do the Weekly Strikes at 28 and Nightfall solo, but the Vault of Glass raid is impossible solo AFAIK. The lowest you *could* do the VoG is with two people, but technically they needed a 3rd person to join mid raid in order to advance them through a certain part that required 3 people to unblock the next area. But even then, those two people that posted their achievement on reddit were very good and coordinated.

My take on the game so far is it started out fun, but I'm now at the point of having nothing left to do due to lack of content. All I do is complete the weekly strikes and nightfall on my characters and then that's it until the next reset.

There were 6 of us that were going to do the raid but we're either playing CSGO or they just haven't been on, so I got that to look forward to still whenever we decide to do it. I guess getting raid gear is the only way to reach light level 30 so I've been saving my ascendant shards for whenever I get those.

They also did this to Marleau in favor of Thornton. Maybe they should figure out something else instead of killing morale within their own club.

Such a glorious win. I rooted for the Germans last world cup (after USA was knocked out early too of course) and I'm really hoping they win it this time.

I still have such an insane backlog of games to play right now I think i'll hold off until fall at the earliest at this point. Don't laugh, but I have about 35 games that I own on 360 between arcade and retail that I have never even touched and want to finish before even thinking about moving on. Some of them are project games also, not just small quick playthroughs.

The only thing that might draw me in sooner is Titanfall on One.

You should see my Steam library... :blushing: I curse you, Steam Summer Sale!

Or people aren't on LGW because it's nothing but people complaining about how we suck? Or because it's a Friday night and people are out? Most of the people here are die hards, and some of us have been Wings fans long enough to remember what *really* losing was like. I doubt this season will push all but a handful away.

Sorry if I'm being overly sensitive, it's been a day...

But... you're still giving out butt pats if they win tonight... right?

#2494855 Where has NHL scoring gone?

Posted by dropkickshanahans on 12 March 2014 - 05:30 PM

My theory for the low scoring is the modern butterfly style dominating the league, as well as lots of those goalies being bigger now, or at least playing aggressive enough to look bigger.

Had to do some quick research and it looks like there were only a few goalies back then that implemented dropping to the knees in some situations, with only a couple goalies throughout the years actually using the style as a main like Tony Esposito and later Patrick Roy. It seemed to me that there was a bigger transition somewhere in the '90s/early 2000s where current pros switched to a hybrid or came into the league with some type of hybrid playstyle, where now today the butterfly style is dominant across the league.

I wonder how much scoring would be achieved back then if goalies had better masks and the butterfly was more popular; It seemed that a lot of goals back then that you can find on youtube were low-- between and around the skates.
