We should make an official fight thread, to avoid making one for each notable fight. Good to see Abby playing gritty and contributing offensively.

That will get buried quick.

Interesting piece I thought I'd share talking with Stu Grimson and the recent suicides and deaths of hockey enforcers.

#2207437 Official Detroit Lions thread

Thompson has done a great job but it's apples and oranges at this point. Mayhew was given an 0-16 team with Calvin and Backus as the only legitimate starters. In 3 years under Mayhew, in Pioli-like fashion, he's done great into turning garbage into mid-late picks and providing solid depth on the roster (finally) as well as making some key FA signings. I shutter at the players that Millen thought was good enough to compete at a high level but in reality would be 2nd-3rd backups.

I'm now at the point where I expect this team to win. They proved to me last season that they had the talent to keep it close but was without experience to get over the hump. This season I think they get over the hump, but are still 1-3 years away from being contenders considering they still have a bad line and the LeShoure injury could take him 2 years to be 100% or it could affect his play for the rest of his career (I'm hoping for the former obviously). The secondary looks solid, but is nowhere near what GB has.

So all in all, there's still areas of improvement, but I don't think they're that far off from contending the division like you think they are. After all, we lost a heartbreaker in Lambeau last season and got revenge the second time. Oh, and no injury excuses, our 3rd string QB beat you! :P

Weaver has been suspended 6 games by MLB.

Good. He should use that time to make his skin thicker.

Congrats, Kenny, on becoming a citizen of the Master Country.

#2194970 Wings re-sign Ericsson to 3-year, $9.75m contract

Posted by dropkickshanahans on 02 July 2011 - 01:30 AM

Everyone keeps saying this like it's a defense of the signing. If he could make more elsewhere, LET HIM GO MAKE MORE ELSEWHERE! I see the point of the going rate for defensemen, but anyone who thinks theres even a tiny chance Big E fills Rafalski's shoes (successfully) in the Top 2 is delirious. I know Holland said he's still looking, but that "we could always just rely on Ericsson for our Top 2 replacement" quote sounds an awful lot like "this is what we'll be doing since there's nobody out there."

STOP SAYING THAT!

I don't believe I heard Holland or anyone say that at all.

#2194778 PHI signs Andreas Lilja

Posted by dropkickshanahans on 01 July 2011 - 08:31 PM

I still can't see Philly making it that far in the playoffs. Even with Jagr and Lils and all the other moves they are making. They are looking for the right direction but I don't think they've found it yet.

They need Hudler, and we have just the Hudler they're looking for.

#2194638 Wiz is a dick.

I'm pretty shocked at how many people thought Wiz would sign here.

So he wants to beat us because of something that happened almost 30 years ago to his uncle under different management?

He's probably right if the cap continues to increase. Besides, did he not hear what Ericsson got?

#2194552 Wings re-sign Eaves to 3-year, $3.6m contract

Great great signing! Welcome back Patty!

#2192914 Wings re-sign Ericsson to 3-year, $9.75m contract

Ericsson is such an interesting player. He gets alot of hate on here, yet Babcock logs him a ton of minutes and Holland signs him to $3.25 a year for 3 years. I'm glad he's back, although I don't agree with the price, but Babcock and Holland know more than I do.

#2192160 Ehrhoff's rights traded to NYI, then traded to Buffalo

More Eklund Speculation:

Eklund Hockey Buzz Eklund
OK...rare I go out on a limb like this...but I was told Ehrhoff is not in the Red Wings plans. At all.
