ironic that the common consensus on LGRW.COM would be that datsyuk is better then ovechkin... seems like the homerism is overpowering the logic.

ovechkin is 25 years old
datsyuk is 32

career points

for dats = 221 goals, 651 points in 662 games
for ovie = 301 goals 614 points in 475 games

in ovies 6 years in the league he has scored more then 50 goals 4 times, 1 of the 4 being a 65 goal season. in datsyuks 9 years with detroit, the most goals he has put up in a season was 32(08) which ties ovechkins lowest goal total since entering the league (2010). datsyuks 2nd most goals in a season is 31(07)... so if you add dats goal totals from 07 and 08 ovechkin still outscored him with just his 07 goal total. (32+31= 63, vs 65)some of you may say thats not fair, because dastyuk isn't a goal scorer... which is fine because we can also look at assists. datsyuks top season for assists was 66 in 07... ovechkin had 59 in 2010, just 7 less. dont see datsyuk doubling ovechkin in assists like ovechkin does datsyuk in goals most years.

datsyuk has never had a 100 point season (97 twice) at age 32 whereas ovechkin has 4 at age 25

ovechkin is 5th all time for regular season goals per game above bure and gretzky, behind lemieux and bossy.... good company.
4th on all time list of playoff points per games (ahead of messier and orr)
2nd in playoff goals per game behind super mario
7th all time in regular season points per game

could probably do this all day.... dont want to because pav is like my favorite player but its really not even that close on paper and thats just me being objective because i really dont like ovechkin all that much. as a red wing fan and a hockey fan its good to be objective about things becuase most people arent. (hence 95% of people on LGRW saying dats > ovie). i just dont think a poll of hfboards or nhl would show people unanimously agreeing that datsyuk is better then ovie.

#2196493 Red Wings / Griffins sign Exelby, Pyett

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings have signed a pair of defensemen, agreeing to one-year deals with unrestricted free-agent Garnet Exelby and their own restricted free agent, Logan Pyett.

Both are slated to play for the Grand Rapids Griffins next season.

Exelby, who turns 30 on Aug. 16, is a good-sized, scrappy defender (6-foot-1, 215 pounds) with 408 games of NHL experience with Atlanta and Toronto. He spent all of last season with the Rockford IceHogs (AHL), picking up three goals, 10 assists and 128 penalty minutes in 77 games.

He played for the Maple Leafs in 2009-10, picking up a goal, three assists and 73 penalty minutes in 51 games.

The 23-year-old Pyett (5-10, 200) has spent the past three seasons with Grand Rapids, where he's collected 21 goals, 45 assists and a minus-2 rating in 215 games.

#2188972 Changes in the offseason

yeah i guess its more fantasy then reality thinking we could get pitkanen and wis.... especially because neither of them really specialize on the pk or in their own end. both are ideal for pp but with wis being the right handed shot it makes him that much more appealing. he hits, can fight and man a pp unit. pitkanen is very smooth with the puck, great coming out of his own zone.... has very impressive vision and is also very offensively gifted. my thing with pitkanen is his turnover to takeaway ratio is almost even whereas wisniewski gives the puck over a lot more then hes taking it away. we had ericcson and raffi this year leading the way in giveaways and it seems like signing wisniewski wont really help us in that department. signing one of them makes sense but both doesnt i understand.... just was merely number crunching showing it could be possible though not probable.

i updated... made it more realistic.... we still "traded hudler + picks for bogosian + picks

Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m)
Jussi Jokinen ($3.500m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m)
Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m)
Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m)
Cory Emmerton ($0.533m)

Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / James Wisniewski ($4.500m)
Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / Brad Stuart ($3.750m)
Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / Zach Bogosian ($3.375m)
/ Brendan Smith ($0.875m)

Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Mike Smith ($2.250m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $60,917,044; BONUSES: $0
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $3,382,956

jokinen could demand more then 3.5.... we could give it to him. he could be good for 50-60 points as he has been the last 2 years, 20-30 goals. the only thing with this setup to worry about is whether kindl / smith can handle a regular spot

smith probably wouldnt sign here to be howies backup, but if he did sign he would be capable of manning a solid chunk of games keeping howard well rested and well motivated knowing the guy behind him would love his spot.

still have plenty of cap space for potential tweaking or to add depth / whatever you want to spend it on

#2024444 Wings sign Ruslan Salei

Posted by DangleDangleBeach on 09 August 2010 - 02:07 PM

salei plays mean... brings an element to our third pairing and team for that matter that is misssing. ericcson can learn a lot from his toughness / ability to play with a chip on his shoulder. he hits, is a stay at home dmen who makes a player in front of the net pay the price. i would of rather had andy sutton, but salei sure as hell beats lilja / meech / lebda /janik bolstering our blueline. he can drop the gloves if needed too, not the best part of his game but he can whereas lilja is one punch away from being a vegetable... why have a big body with a glass jaw?

#1989606 It's Official: Happy Hudler is Back

Posted by DangleDangleBeach on 25 May 2010 - 03:20 PM

sorry for dreaming!!! i said i knew we wouldnt be getting rid of draper and cleary, does it really bother you that much that i speculate the if we did aspect?? i mean it would make the team a hell of a lot more attractive and isnt that what we all want? i understand the wings are loyal and draper isnt going anywhere so just relax... im just speculating what if

zberg and dats could play on the same line but they like to spread the talent to go with a more well rounded 1-2 punch as well as a center on each top line that is elite on both ends of the ice. instead of having 1 top line you get 2 i understand it. i also understand that they both are amazing on both ends of the ice and they possess the ability to shut down a teams top line while throwing either our 1b unit (dats or z line) at their secondary unit.
flipper can also play center and has been watching dats and z for years and seems to have been taking notes on their defensive play. therefore i say put zberg on dats wing giving him less defensive responsibility and more time to concentrate on the offense and have filpula centering zbergs line it could seriously open things offensively while having the same overall idea of a 1-2 punch. flip franzen hudler could be a great potent 2nd unit and dats and z together could mean 40 goals+ for z.

ohh wait i was dreaming again, sorry i forget how im not supposed to do that on LGW
