#2571873 2/18 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Blackhawks 2 (SO. Yes, SO!).

This is what I call Leafs hockey!

no goalie interference...dont tell me this is an Uncle Gary game...most penalized team in the league and Detroit hasn't got a PP yet.

Hard to draw penalties when you have possession for 4% of the time.

Can we all admit that there's a huge jump from the AHL to the NHL, that scoring a ton in the AHL doesn't mean a guy will score int he NHL, and sendPulinnen back down to learn how to do more than try to fire a slapper every time he touches the puck in the offensive zone?  Kid needs to settle the @#$& down instead of trying to shoot the puck through the goalie's chest every time.

No. He hasn't been bad. There comes a point when being a big fish in a small pond will stunt your growth.

He'll figure things out, it takes more than 5 games to get acclimated with the NHL.

#2555811 Jimmy sucks in a shootout Howard

Posted by Dave on 11 December 2014 - 12:41 PM

I've always wondered if you could track down the Guiness Book of World Records fattest man, strap some pads on him, and just literally plug up the entire net with him. Is there a rule in the NHL rule book about this? Are there weight parameters that say "If the goalie is large enough that there is no longer an opening to the net, he cannot play in the NHL?". It surely would solve our shootout issues if there was no entrance to the net at all.

If we can keep this thread respectful and on point about Howard's performance in shootouts, and his percentages indeed being among the lowest, it may continue. Let's keep it friendly, it is the holiday season after all.

:D

They did this on sports science.

Hopelessly outshoot the other team and make a bad goalie look like God - pretty par for the course.

See, it DOES feel like '09!

#2540431 10/11/14 GDT: Game 2 | Ducks 3 @ Red Wings 2

Posted by Dave on 13 October 2014 - 08:55 AM

Rooting against? No. Wanting to see our best players play every game they can? Yes. It isn't my fault that Holland signed a overrated always hurt player. The new trend here is Babcock is doing what he has been saying: The best play regardless of age/contract status/experience etc..... That is something everyone should be excited about!

He's only played 26 games as a Red Wing.....26. Again, he's only played 26 games as a Red Wing. I can't imagine why anyone has written him off after only ~32% of a single season. It's just utter nonsense.

#2536656 Selanne would still play if Boudreau wasn't Ducks coach

I can't believe this thread is a fan of this guy

Hurr durr he's fat, what a piece of s***.

The dude's teams were always president's trophy contenders.

#2531037 Red Wings Target Mike Green

Posted by Dave on 10 July 2014 - 02:33 PM

He was an AHL rookie, and there is absolutely no evidence that "he wanted to play now".  That's just something people keep saying.  He's far from the first Red Wings player to be expected to play a couple years in the AHL despite being older and having played professionally before.

Also, you're just making things up.  He doesn't have "defensive inefficiencies".  He was lauded for his "Zetterberg-like" commitment to two-way play.

I'm so tired of people using post-hoc justifications to try and make that trade look like it wasn't a total disaster.  He wasn't going back to Europe.  He wasn't demanding immediate playing time.  He would surely have got a chance to be better than Andersson, Sheahan, Glendening, and/or Helm.  And he DEFINITELY isn't bad defensively.

It was s*** trade.  That's all.

Is this done yet? Can we please move on? I kind of don't even like this website anymore because of this, Hossa, and Suter circle jerks that constantly get brought up in not some, but ALL of the posts on this site.

#2529147 Quincey re-signed by DET. 2 yr s $4.25 mill AAV

Posted by Dave on 01 July 2014 - 08:44 PM

Ken Hollands actions lately prove to me that he is/was not the great NHL GM that everyone said he was. He must have been just the face in front of the real brains that have now all left. Nill, Bowman, and Yzerman.

The Quincey signing will go down as one of his worst deals. Better to have done nothing then this. To be rejected by most UFA's is a big sign that the Wings are in big trouble. We are in for a long year(s) ahead

I don't think that's the case at all. I believe what we are witnessing is just how much of an impact player a prime Lidstrom was. We all knew he was good, amazing, one of the best ever. But, he seems to be what made the '00s Red Wings teams into contenders. Every D man that was his partner had career years. I daresay that, even with all the accolades, he may well have been underrated.

Speaking of Stuart, I wonder if he could be had for cheap, considering the Sharks are rebuilding.

Am I taking crazy pills? Does no one remember how terrible he was the last 1 and half seasons he was here? The dude mailed it in and was one of the worst defenders on the Wings roster. Why does everyone want him back?

Hardly. More like "slow news day".

#2522488 Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

Posted by Dave on 02 June 2014 - 09:27 AM

Why Not...

1. Trade Jurco, Andersson, 2014 1st Round Pick (#15) for Ryan Kesler

2. Trade Dekeyser, Tatar, Marchenko, and 2015 1st + 2016 Cond 2nd for Shea Weber

3. Sign Boyle

4. Re-Sign Alfie

ZETTERBERG - DATSYUK - ALFREDSSON

FRANZEN        - KESLER    - MANTHA

NYQUIST         - SHEAHAN - PULKINNEN

ABDELKADER - HELM        - MILLER

WEBER       - KRONWALL

ERICSSON - BOYLE

KINDL         - SMITH

HOWARD

Then lets flip Abs and Helm 1st+2nd+3rd+4th+5th+6th for Malkin and Letang

I don't think people understand how much offense will be gained with a better D corps.
