I was hoping for another "how to be a real fan" discussion. Because anyone that doesn't think a 5th seeded Red Wings team that is scuffling into the playoffs can win it all isn't worthy to be a part of the fan base.
Look, I'm all for supporting the team and always will be. I will attend the games and cheer on the Red Wings like always. That being said, you can be a realist and still be a loyal fan. I don't think the Red Wings are built to win the Stanley Cup this season. They probably have a shot if literally everything goes in their favor. If that makes me a negative nancy or a lesser fan to those that judge this type of thing, then that comes with the territory.
Everyone has an opinion and the great thing about LGW is being able to dicuss that with everyone. I don't want to come here and read nonstop about blind support for the Red Wings. I don't care if there are fans that predict the Wings to win it all -- you're entitled to that -- but just remember so is everyone else that disagrees.
Best time of the year is finally here. Go Red Wings!
Well if this team plays like they did early on and in the middle of the season they are damn near unstoppable. Defense has been much improved this year. It seems like goal scoring is an issue, and puck possession needs to improve. They have the tools, they CAN win.
I think the new Asst. coaches aren't bringing as much to the table as we hoped. Their new PP approach worked well in the beginning of the season, but has dropped off BIG time.
If the bottom 2 lines can pick up the scoring like they did earlier in the season, PP starts to work (even just a little), and possession time increases then the Wings can hang with anyone.
Haha so in other words you cant even tell me whats wrong with these trades Hahaha
I gave you a plus because I don't see a problem with posting trade proposals.
But I don't think Burke would want those players, and from what I've heard (just on other forums and stuff) Semin is headed back to Russia after this season. Plus, Hudler is only 1 point behind Semin, so I'm not sure adding Semin would be as big a boost as people think.
Toews, Kane, and Leddy are just gonna keep getting better
Who's to say that our players aren't getting better?
We replaced Brian Rafalski with a player who, even in a career year, is arguably not as good as Rafalski.
So you're saying he's arguably better than Rafalski? That sounds like a good thing.
our bottom six forwards have the least potential for offense of any Wings team in 15 years
We're ranked 5th in goals per game, yet we only have 1 top 20 goal scorer in the league. Sounds like we're getting production out of everyone.
Ericsson is as horrible as ever.
Not even remotely true.
If regular season success meant anything San Jose would be a dynasty.
I'm pretty sure that Detroit has had the most regular season success out of every team the past 10 years. Just looked it up, they've won the President's Trophy 4 times in the last decade. No other team has won it twice within that span. Within those years the team that won the trophy made it to at least the conference finals 50% of the time.
Its almost a given that they will choke but they have ousted us the last two years with what I thought was beatable play. We only play when we want and the last two years we turn it on too late.
Last year was the closest playoffs series ever played (as far as goal diff).
Every year we've won the Cup we've had a reason and drive. '97-Duh, 52 years, '98-Konstantinov, '02- Maybe the best team ever (Robitaille and Duschene), '08-Dallas Drake, Cleary, most the players hadn't won. Now? You get the picture.
Drake is not the reason they won. Team defense, and Z and Dats playing superbly is the reason they won. Drake was nothing more than a nice story that has been blown way the f*** out of proportion.
I believe, because I've seen it for 15 years, that the Wings always have a chance and better than most teams. But only when they play like they really want it and we don't do that consistantly anymore.
Then you haven't been watching him all that much. I got really tired of comments like yours so I made it a point to watch him during games. He is getting better at everything, including using his body and making better passes. Yeah, he screwed up his passing last night but who didn't (except maybe Lidstrom)? He also had three excellent shots on goal, two of them coming from close to the blue line. More than we can say for most of 'em.
Exactly. Remember when everyone was on him about his horrible pinches? Well he doesn't really do that too much anymore. Also, he's very good at clearing rebounds. This is something that was necessary for Howard last year, and for McDonald this year.
Ericsson was absolutely brutal out there. He turns the puck over constantly in our own end. He can't handle the pressure. Can't make a 10 foot pass, can't hit, can't fight, can't clear out players in the crease. I couldn't believe Babcock had him out there in the last 2 minutes of the game with the amount of turnovers he was producing. You'd think with his size he would be more physical out there, but no. I hope there is some GM out there willing to take him come trade deadline. I cringe every time he has the puck in our zone.
I bet there's 29 teams that would like Ericsson. Other than the one real bad turn over he wasn't as brutal as everyone makes him out to be.
