#2473649 1/16 GDT : Red Wings 0 at Rangers 1

Nope it's an excuse, other teams are having / had very significant injuries too, i.e Backes, Weber !, Malkin, Bolland, Gaborik Stamkos ... good teams are finding ways to win it's that simple. And even healthy this just isn't a good club right now (2 stars, a rookie playing great in DD and solid goaltending) but man the D, second line + bottom 6 is a mess.

The good thing is, more and more people are now seeing that the East is a whole different beast and some huge adjustments have to happen in the offseason, if Holland doesn't want to do it, let someone else run the ship and he should just move up as an VP of hockey operations.

Without Howy playing stellar this would have been another blowout and now with LAK, St. Louis and the Hawks coming up things are getting tougher.

The east isn't as good of a conference as the west. Stop trying to claim otherwise. The east isn't filled with "tougher" teams either, so don't play that card.

Also, the Wings have 66% of their top 6 out. Their #2 D man is out. You can't compare a Stamkos injury to having 7 of your regulars out of the lineup.

My feelings on this season.

Well we all saw the lineup. I don't know what we were expecting.

Are these your real thoughts? I'm not trying to be mean or rude. I've just never seen someone waiver in their convictions like this. You were saying, recently, that this is the worst wings team you have ever seen. Now, you're saying this team is better than the '02 wings, which is, arguably, the greatest hockey team ever assembled.

Don't mind him, judging by the spelling and typos he's on heavy medication.

Also, a big lawl to Ozzy for his comment on the helm goal. "His mustache stayed in perfect position too.".

I've seriously started five different posts and couldn't finish them.  My brain is pissed off in about ten different directions.  s***ty roster, stubborn coach, under performing team, and nobody owning up to anything.  I wish I were like many hockey fans and could find a way to just pin this on Bettman.  But alas, this is our mess.

On the bright side, Datsyuk will be 36 next year.  Ugh.

Here's a post I read on HF about the situation (specifically how bad Quincey is).

Weiss produced just fine in Florida. Tootoo was fantastic in Nashville. Samuelsson produced in Vancouver and Florida. Filppula and Hudler leave Detroit, and both of them have produced with new roles on new teams. What is it about Detroit that is killing production? Are these guys mis-used? Do they have a chance to really succeed here? What's the problem, exactly? Quincey may not be a great player, in fact, he may be as awful or even worse than his stats indicate, but why did Detroit acquire him with such a high draft pick if they weren't planning to play to his strengths? Why would they sign Samuelsson if they weren't planning to actually utilize Samuelsson for the two years he was signed? What was the point in bringing Tootoo here if you can't even use him correctly?

I don't know, I think there could be a problem with the current system if every single guy just about that the team brings in just can't seem to actually help the team. These are all guys who have been able to help someone in the past, most cases even just one year previously... there's just something weird about the situation in Detroit.

It's a good point, but I'm not smart enough to know if it's actually valid.

If an opposing team ever iced a lineup of rookies who had never scored an NHL goal, and a goalie with less than 5 NHL games the Wings would lose at least 18-0.

Well, that is just excellent news. I don't think I've ever liked a post on LGW more. Now if only we could get someone to want him and that terrible contract....

Philly, they'll take anyone.

So NBCSN is calling this a rivalry game. So I guess the word rival is officially meaningless.

I hope Kronwall and his defensive partner rival Ericsson have a strong showing.

Maybe Weiss and his rival winger Franzen can get into gear early.  :glare:

I still wish that we could move him, but Sammy actually doesn't look bad in the fourth line.
He's an expensive fourth liner though.

Sammy never looks bad. Hell he looks good at times. But when you think about him it's so hard to picture anything good you just assume that he's awful.

Not sure if its been discussed before, but...

Are those the jerseys the Wings are going to be wearing all season?

I couldn't help but notice that they ditched the clean arched font that they have used for years, and replaced it with an ugly blocky straight font for the names on the jerseys.

Weird how something so small can be so noticeable and actually bother me a bit, lol.

FINALLY!

I was wondering if this was the year it wouldn't be mentioned.

#2436208 So....did Cleary just take Tatar's spot?

Posted by Dave on 12 September 2013 - 01:04 PM

Well, Nyquist could very well start the season in Grand Rapids and you don't hear him complaining. Tatar was saying the same thing last year, that it was his last year in GR and he'd be asking for a trade if he wasn't in the Wings plans this year.

Honestly, I can't blame the guy, and I agree that he's proven himself. And I really want to see him on the Wing's starting roster in October/ BUT, I can't remember any prospect that's made the pro transition form GRs ever talk like this. (Filpulla, Hudler, Kronwall, Helm, Howard, Ericsson). And there have been plenty of guys over the years that have had to be patient. So there's that, and that's all I'm really saying.

Outside of Howard none of those players played 4 years in GR. Howard wasn't exactly lighting the AHL on fire either.

So if they ask Tatar, one of our top prospects, to spend year number 5 in GR then Tatar has a right to be pissed.

Posted by Dave on 12 September 2013 - 12:21 PM

And maybe this is why Tatar is slotted as a depth guy right now. Attitude?

What more can he do to prove he's NHL ready? He won the playoff MVP. He's watched players leap frog him on the depth chart. He had more points than Nyquist when he got sent back down.

Seriously, if I got s*** on repeatedly like that I'd leave too. There's 29 teams that would sign him in a second.

f*** holland. goddamn it. this team is stuck inf****** 2009. That s*** didn't work then, it's not going to work with everyone being 5 years older.
