OMG shut up with the holland remarks... u honestly sound RETARDED!!! The funny thing is back at the beginning of the year when the Wings were going through a similar funk, everyone was saying the exact same things because it seemed like the end of the  world. Now we are in another small funk (This time largely cuz of injuries) and you are all at it again. When the team gets going again and starts racking up W's, the same people saying retarded things about Holland and Babcock and whoever else will be PRAISING them... honestly if your a fan of the team than support it all the time, not just when its playing well!

The difference between Crosby and Datsyuk's offensive game is greater than the difference in their defensive game. Crosby is easily the best player in the league, and Datsyuk is a perhaps close but definitive 2nd. NHL players agree in a recent poll they did and of course they're a better sample than a bunch of us Red Wings fans.  

When he's healthy, no one is even close to Crosby. Not Malkin, not Giroux, not Dats, not Toews, not the Sedins, nobody.

Also, it's 5 points in 2 games since coming back.

Is anyone else sick of reading Babcock's post game comments? " I thought we were good for 2 min in the second, we didn't start on time, they played good, we only had one line playing" etc. I wish that he would call this team out or at least those who are simply collecting cheques and not giving a crap. Forget the PP. This team does not compete on a nightly basis and that is becoming a huge problem. Have you ever watched a Wings game and had a pretty good idea what the outcome will be 5 min in? Mike Babcock is a great coach but he needs to inspire this team. Say what you want about Ken Hitchcock but the Blues are playing inspired hockey right now and that is a lot to do with coaching. Getting the boys all back healthy will be a big help but this team has been lacking drive all season. So I think its the coaches job to turn this around now or face a very early playoff exit.

Considering the Wings have had by far the worst drafting position in the NHL over any time period, anything better than dead last is great.  No question the prospect pool is the strongest it has been in a long time.

Smith, Nyquist, Jarnkrok, Tatar and Pulkkinen all have performed very well as pros (against adults) already.

Smith and Nyquist are already AHL all-stars.  Tatar was the youngest player in the AHL.  Jarnkrok just finished 14th in SEL scoring (despite losing a fair amount of games to injury) and Pulkkinen recently broke Teemu Selanne's rookie scoring record in the Finnish elite league.

Jurco and Tvrdon put up a ton of points with their junior teams, while defensemen like Oullete and Sproul exploded to become all-star selections at defense (at very young ages).  Even huge, lumbering Nedomlel just tripled his scoring from last year.  Mrazek was the World Junior Championship most valuable goalie.

Then you have Sheahan and Jensen playing very well in college and defensemen like Marchenko, Backman and Almquist who could really surprise in the next couple years (my money is on Marchenko - who was made the face of Russian junior hockey and already playing in the KHL).

The prospect pool is the best it has been in 20 years, and it's exciting to keep up with their accomplishments... I'm very optimistic for the future.

Apparently a lot of teams were targeting Smith and Pulkkinen at the trade deadline.

I am already looking towards next year.   I am guessing with Ericsson and Datsyuk out the Wings will end up as fourth seed and be eliminated in the second round or third... a familiar scenario.    It will take Datsyuk a few weeks to get back into form.    There is no forward on the team playing near Datsyuk's level and he can't do it by himself.    The playoff teams will double or triple cover Datsyuk.  Detroit lost the last two at home and St. Louis won the last three on the road..... so much for the "easier" schedule for Detroit.   The next three games for each team will determine who wins the division and St. Louis is on fire.... and they are on the road.

Anyway this is my roster for next year.   You can add one big gritty forward to the mix.   So far the cap total is only 61.5 mil.   Brendan Smith won't be full time until the following year IMHO.
