Maybe if my future after my Master's in Physics doesn't work out, I can try to get a job working to fix some of the horrendous excuses for jerseys worn by international clubs?
Since LGW is likely to be pretty slow until the end of June, I figured I'd throw together a little idea I had for what I thought our WC jerseys could look like.
A couple pieces of history here and there (inverted logo, Detroit Cougars "D" on the shoulder), as well as a little deeper red trim for a vintage-ish look.
Anyway, let me know what you think. I have the PSD file, so I can edit it as much as I want, so suggestions are welcome and I'd be willing to attempt any other mock-ups anyone might like to see (within my abilities).
If Holland doesn't do justice and pick up some POWER FORWARDS, WRECKERS, OR PHYSICALITY, we've got a big problem...and Illitch needs not waste his time in Firing Holland. The same man who told us all "I'll retire when Lidstrom retires" had better have his money where his mouth is. WE AS A FANBASE SHOULD NOT PUT UP WITH SUB-PAR MANAGEMENT, AND I EXPECT MR AND MRS ILLITCH TO DO THE SAME.
Please. I agree as much as the next guy that there needs to be some changes, but this kind of post is the exact reason why fans of other teams have a strong dislike towards our fans. It's this sense of entitlement that we seem to have that allows us to puff our chests out and walk around like we're expected to win it every year.
I for one am grateful I've been able to see 4 Stanley Cups raised by this team in my lifetime, which is more than most fans of most teams will be able to say in their lifetimes, and I was 20 years old when they lifted it last. That's 4 Cups in a QUARTER of my life.
I don't want to see this team slip into the dark ages again, and there's a damn good chance that won't happen again for a very long time, if ever, but we need to stop acting like we are the only team in the world that gets to makes decisions to get players. We must remember that realistically, there will be 29 other teams looking for at least one of the players we're looking for as well, and we can't sign them all.
All that said, I would really like to see Holland make a big push to get Parise and Suter because I think they are necessary to make a serious effort at extending our playoff streak and to possibly push for another Cup. But I am a realist when it comes down to it and I know that there's probably a high probability that we're going to be SOL.
But in all seriousness, I think if there was anything that can be taken away from this year's ASG, people wanted to play with Datsyuk. That's reason enough, IMO to say we're still an attractive team.
What am I supposed to do be a Homer and predict Stanley Cups every year? I want to win the Cup this year but it doesn't take a genious to realize that they are not winning a Cup this year and I have no shame in admitting it. Also as a result I have a right to vent as per the reasons why no cup is coming this year.
I really wanted to post a "don't feed the troll" image, but after this one, I fear you're legitimately serious and I have to spell something out for you.
You can be a homer if you want to. That's totally your call. You can also be a negative fair weather fan that is no better than Chicago fans when the Blackhawks were suddenly in position to be good and win their first Stanley Cup. So what if you think they're not going to take it all this year? You're not alone. But the least you can do is support your team until the end if you really believe you're an actual fan.
That's what I would do at least. As a result, I have a right to tell you that if you aren't willing to watch the games on TV or in person then you aren't a real fan anyway.
Because quite frankly, it might have killed me to see what you saw in 2009, but I would have done a lot of things to be there, and it sounds like to me you didn't deserve to be there in the first place.
