#2236405 12/15 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Predators 4

Posted by lookalive07 on 15 December 2011 - 11:26 PM

OK, so the Wings "great play" somehow allowed 4 unanswered goals. But even worse, it appears that the Detroit News has "improved" their website to the extent that they've screwed up the Red Wings forum. Anybody know what those dickheads (the News) have been up to??

3 unanswered, but yeah, I get you.

Unfortunately, I called this loss even before puck drop. I told my buddy during the pre-game that the Red Wings are pretty decent at getting a good streak going, then dropping a game they should almost always win. In this case, we have two blowout wins over the Coyotes and the Jets, and a dominant game over the Penguins, and then we lose off of bad bounces and a couple of poor mistakes by Howard.

I can fully understand the hook he gave though that generated a power play goal by the Predators though. You don't impede the guy a bit, you let him get a better position and the opportunity to pass, maybe even a wraparound, and it's tied right then and there. Unfortunately, Weber's PP goal didn't take too long to happen.

I wouldn't say he played bad though. He had some great saves all night, and then he let in a couple of flukey goals. The first one they had was directly after a phenomenal save. The third goal he almost had in his glove. The fourth one, he couldn't really do much about except create more of an angle for the shot which could have been saved. As the replay showed though, it was a tricky bounce.

Also, this would have been a totally different game had Datsyuk not missed the net on that one attempt. I felt so bad for him because right after that, you could totally see he was using everything he had in the tank to make up for it. That's the type of play I wish him and Zetterberg would show the whole game.

Oh yeah, and Ericsson was absolutely horrendous tonight. How many unforced turnovers did he have?

Everyone's allowed to have a 2nd favorite team.

Unless it's the Blackhawks.

I think it's less trying to take the hitting out of the league, and more taking the "no respect for your fellow players" hits out of the league. This is not one of those, unfortunately, and in this case, I think the league got it wrong. They're human, after all, so they're going to make mistakes, but this is just an example of a clean hit being misjudged.

#2227141 What to do to beat San Jose

Posted by lookalive07 on 18 November 2011 - 01:43 PM

Phase one:
Play on NBC.

Put Pierre between the benches.

Pay him to tell the Sharks that he thinks goals are sexy and turn him on.

Pay him to tell the Wings that he likes it slow and lazy and is always looking for that kind of men.

Phase two:
Play Homer on all four lines.

Win all face-offs.

Do not let Homer out of the crease with his butt in the goalie's face.

Prior to the game, soak his pants in chloroform.

Phase three:
Devise a formula wherein goals, assists, blocked shots, hits, takeaways, shots on goal, and fights count for a different number of positive points.

Add to that formula negative points for lazy play, stupid penalties, missed assignments, and giveaways.

Figure out who has the best score after each game.

Give that man free beer for the week, payed for by the other players so as not to be cap circumvention.

Not sure why you were negged for this post, aside from whoever did it not sensing that you were being humorous.

That said, I like all of these ideas, except I'd trade out the beer part for something that might actually help them get faster and less lazy, haha.

Also, I can get them the Chloroform. We have some in my lab.

Blueadams. For once (not in a line thread), I agree with you. Maybe it's just that I didn't anticipate the signing, but I really have no inhibitions about Ian White. I like what I see thus far.

They should market.

#2213391 Tell the Illitch Family to Drop "Presented by Amway"

Posted by lookalive07 on 08 October 2011 - 11:38 AM

Actually, there IS something we all can do about it. The professional teams get taxbreaks, and our tax dollars for their buildings. The public universities get our tax dollars. They in turn sign contacts with merchandising companies that produce the shirts, hats, etc. that they count on us to buy. Well, almost, if not all of it is now made outside this country. If we all take a stand, and refrain from purchasing their non-American(and to our friends up North, non-Canadian) made products, they WILL notice.
These teams and schools want us to support them, to spend our hard earned money on them. They count on us to support them, and we should demand the same. They make a lot of money from the merchandise sales, but they don't seem to care that it's not made here. I personally will not buy any merchandise, from any sports team, that is not "Made In The U.S.A." I am not advocating a boycott of their games. We are all fans, and should enjoy our teams. Just don't spend your money on anything else.

Oh please, the whole "Made In The U.S.A." crap is a little cliche, don't you think? Tell me, where did they make your TV on which you're watching the Wings play? How about that cable box or satellite dish you ordered so you can get the games on your TV? If you can find on your TV a sticker or an etching that says "Made In The U.S.A.", then your TV sucks.

Now, first and foremost, the Red Wings aren't getting jack s*** in profit margin with merchandising as compared to the sponsorship deals they're making with companies like Amway and Belle Tire.

Here's why: The Detroit Red Wings and their logo are a brand. Reebok, for example, is a merchandising company that pays the Red Wings organization a certain amount of money to use their logo on their apparel. For every item sold, the Red Wings organization makes a little bit of a percentage of that money. The better the item does, the more money the Red Wings organization gets. However, this is only a small percentage since Reebok has to make their profit as well, which I will assure you is far greater than what they are sharing with each individual team for their logos. They also make money by selling stores like Hockeytown Authentics and JLA kiosks that same merchandise for a fraction of the retail value so those stores can turn around and make bigger profits so they can support their overhead.

Now, with advertising, companies like Belle Tire and Amway spend millions of dollars to plaster their names all over the arenas and the broadcasts so they can implant the idea in your head that you need to get your tires from Belle Tire and you need to spend your money with Amway. Why? Because subliminal advertising works. You might wonder why sometimes you suddenly are craving a Jimmy John's sandwich after posting on LGW. It's because that bigf****** sidebar gets your attention without you even really realizing it. It's this kind of advertising that gets those companies money, and since they're paying the Red Wings organization directly, they can take that money and apply it to whatever they may need it for. Combine this with ticket sales, concessions, and overpriced beer, and you have pretty much all the money that the players and the rest of the organization sees.

Bottom line, the boycotting foreign goods thing isn't going to do much, if anything. For one of you "I'll only buy American made" people, there are 5 others that don't give a s*** who made it and buy it anyway. So if the Red Wings are making a 1% profit margin on apparel sales at JLA, you're stopping .0016% of their total profit. Ask Illitch if he gives a rat's ass.

#2200063 Old Video - Boston Bruins Fan Punches Steve Yzerman

Posted by lookalive07 on 21 July 2011 - 11:07 AM

I love the Yzerman fight video for 4 reasons:

1) Yzerman does lose the fight but he seems like he holds his own.
2) Bob Probertf****** punches Barasso's helmet off.
3) Bob Probertf****** punches Maguire through the ref.
4) Bob Probert.

#2198328 Stamkos Re-Signs With Lightning

Posted by lookalive07 on 13 July 2011 - 01:41 PM

Not related to this topic at all, but I find it funny that this comment gets so many +1 votes now that its summer.

If this same comment had been made during the finals, when almost everyone here was on the "Yay! Go Boston!" bandwagon, it would have gotten like -30. :)

I think the general consensus was less "go boston" and more "f*** vancouver, I hope they burn in hell". We just picked boston because most of us dislike the canucks more than we dislike the bruins.
