#2206027 Red Wings Sponsor?

Posted by Shady Ultima on 02 September 2011 - 06:03 PM

Honestly, I don't think many people would have been nearly upset if it had been Belle tire, or GM, or any other Detroit based business that brings pride. I think what bugs people is they went with a shady pyramid scheme company. Plus, the article posted earlier made a great point. Promoting a pyramid scheme into a severely economically depressed area, it's like throwing a wolf in with some sheep.

I wonder if he even WATCHED Det/SJ last year. Some of the worst officiating I've ever seen, but you never heard Holland whining to the press about it.

#2155600 Congratulations to the Phoenix Coyotes

I think the 'Yotes have a good foundation, and whether they're in Phoenix or Winnipeg next year, I hope they continue to play. Doan is a great player, and he's a career player there, and he won't have too many more shots at winning a cup.

Hopefully they don't have to wait long.

The one thing about this game that irked me though, is that all the Phoenix fans were crying and being supportive. I love to see that and all, but the problem for me is, where were they the rest of the season? The crowd was pretty full the last two nights, and it looked like a lot of 'Yotes fans. If those same fans went to games in the regular season, the team would be more likely to stay in Phoenix.

Doan will be a career Jet/Coyote.

To me, I'd take Bryz. Sure, he's looked weak, but I'd rather have him as an experienced backup should anything happen.

I'd love to see all the Wings fans in red. Because when the game is being played, the NHL can see the 500 people cheering for the Coyotes that much clearer. Then move the damn Coyotes back to Winnipeg, where they belong.

Speaking of which...why do Oilers fans get to make fun of the Coyotes? Seems to me like a pretty darn similar situation; except for the potentially illegal conduct involved with Moyes' bankruptcy during the Phoenix saga.

The reason Oilers fans can make fun of the Coyotes is simple Eva. There ARE Oilers fans.

No. Simple as that. There is a reason the guy is playing in the minors.

#2104682 NHL ASG Entertainment to Suck

The first mistake every event seems to make is to "get the local talent" for WHATEVER event they have. Just like in Detroit, where we wheel out the Temptations or Kid Rock for every event we can. And if we can't, we get the Romantics or Anita Baker, because they're FROM here. How about getting someone who is RIGHT FOR THE EVENT?
I HATE Nickelback and I want them all to go away as soon as humanly possible, but they would be better for this event than CLAY FREAKIN AIKEN? Isn't Hootie from that area? Dave Matthews? ANYONE else?

I'd love to see the Stooges and the White Stripes playing a show in Detroit. Those are some seriously influential groups. I don't know why people think Kid Rock is so good. He's awful, and everything he touches is s***.

#2102855 Nabokov claimed by NYI, refuses to report, suspended

Posted by Shady Ultima on 22 January 2011 - 12:47 PM

They need a goalie for a while, and it only costs them $570,000. What doesn't make sense?

Cause they're getting him for 30ish games?

I don't see the point of a bottom feeder claiming a playoff goalie, on a one year contract. It's not going to do anything for them. The can't trade him, so they can't get anything out of him.

I mean, at this point in the season, it's a shame that a s***ty team would grab a good player like that. If they were a playoff contender, it'd still bother me, but not nearly as much. Hell, if it was a team that even had a CHANCE at the playoffs, and improving their goaltending would get them there, it would make sense.

The Islanders have just proven again that they are morons and are a joke in this league.

I think, in the past 20 years, you have

As probably the best. I may be missing some, but those are the goalies I can think of off the top of my head. Roy, and Hasek are in, Belfour and Brodeur are locks, and Osgood and Joseph are questionable.

To try to compare the goalies is hard, because of the teams they played on. Roy was incredible on any team, definitely one of the best goalie of all time. Hasek is the same, despite only having won one cup as a starter. He made Buffalo a threat, when they really didn't have much else going for them.

Belfour and Brodeur have both proven that without a SOLID defensive team... they are crap. Belfour won one cup, with a very, very good Dallas team, whereas Brodeur has been absolutely terrible and getting worse since the salary cap came in and NJ's defense disappeared.

Joseph is probably the most under-rated on that list. Most people consider an elite goalie to win cups. But Joseph played on some of the worst teams in his career, and was amazing. I'm not a Toronto fan, but he was the only thing going for them in their 2002 run, and he was the best player in his Edmonton and St. Louis days. He'll probably end up being looked over, but Joseph was one of the best there was.

Osgood is an odd one, possibly ranked lower than Joseph on many people's lists. Despite putting up some great stats over his career, winning 2 cups as a starter, and carrying us in the 08 and 09 playoffs, people never give him the respect he deserves. To be part of the 6 best goalies in 20 years earns HOF in my opinion. Like Joseph, he played for some pretty bad teams, the Isles and the Blues, and he managed to play well. People put him up to his team, but even Lalime could have won a cup as a starter on the 2000 and 2003 NJ teams. They allowed so few shots against that the goalie barely had to even play. They could almost have had an empty net and won. Brodeur has never been amazing without a team in front of him, and still gets called an elite, while Osgood quietly plays as good (or better) in playoffs and never gets the recognition.

There are 35 goalies in the Hall. 16 of them are pre-Original 6 goalies. That leaves 19 goalies over a span of about 55 years. Osgood is one of the five best goalies of his era; two are already in, another just became eligible, and the last is still playing. There are other goaltenders who were very good who can make arguments for the Hall who have not been inducted, such as Tom Barrasso, Andy Moog, and John Vanbiesbrouck, but Osgood has a higher claim to the Hall than any of them.

Just curious, which 5 are you talking, and which two are inducted? I know Roy has been, and I believe Hasek is eligible.

#2075931 Retire Osgood's #30?

Posted by Shady Ultima on 11 December 2010 - 04:03 AM

While the decision to retire a number is up to the owner of the team, but Kenny loves Ozzy, and I think he has a good chance to having his number retired.

I do believe that Ozzy deserves more recognition than he ever has, or will get. The fact is, people are always going to say he's only good because of Detroit's defense. It's ironic in that sense because they NEVER point out Brodeur's defense, and he hasn't won a single championship without that defense either. I believe Roy had a damn good defense core in front of him for the majority of his career. The ONLY 'elite' goalies who have rarely had a superior defense were Hasek, and arguably Cujo (if you consider him elite)

#2072321 Bert: (One of) the most hated athletes.

Posted by Shady Ultima on 03 December 2010 - 03:53 PM

To the people who hate Bert... his hit was the exact same as when McCarty punched Lemieux. Blind side, punch to the back of the head, and then Lemieux fell. The only difference is that Lemieux's neck didn't break because the whole Avs team didn't jump on McCarty.

This thread is why people cannot ever take Eva seriously again.

Seriously. Datsyuk has no defense skills? I realize this is 5 years ago. I just can't believe how little faith people had in Dats.
