#2265072 Johan Franzen Depreciation

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 29 February 2012 - 08:46 AM

Thats because he had a work ethic back then.

Now he's a classic case of getting the big contract and turning in performances. As soon as he reached the top 6 and got his 11 year contract or whatever it was, he hit the off switch on his effort. So what he got a goal and an assist last night, that doesn't make up for his complete lack of effort the past 15 games or so. I'd rather see Franzen be a consistant player that shows his talents on a regualar basis like Datsyuk. It pisses me off that he doesn't care about the regular season cause that's how you get a better spot in the playoffs. Do any of you really want to see the Wings make it to the WCF to face probably the Canucks and lose on the road as they love to do and with all the hometown calls for the Canucks as well? Didn't think so. That's why we need Franzen to put in a little moref****** effort on a regular basis to get the Presidents Trophy and take home ice through the playoffs to the SCF. The Wings will not win a series in which they do not have home ice advantage, mark my words.

Good to see one of our top players become the whipping boy. All the years of idiots bitching about scrubs of marginal impact was getting stale.

I thought about interjecting some rationality, but decided it would be pointless. Those who want to hate Franzen will do so regardless. They'll overstate his flaws, downplay or outright dismiss his strengths. Once he goes on another hot streak you'll all go back to jerking off to his picture while burning Ericsson in effigy.

Goal and assist tonight. On pace for 30+ goals, and career highs in assists and points. Yeah, such awful depreciation.

Hossa was awesome in the regular season. He had a mediocre playoffs though, but both him and Datsyuk were playing injured I believe (Hossa had surgery in the off-season).

I agree with the sentiment "settle down" though.

Come playoff time Franzen>Hossa. We witnessed this first hand.

Just remember Hossaf****** sucked here. Franzen is clutch and clutch is everything.

I didnt here you a holes bitching and moaning in 2008 when Franzen was hotter than whale s***.

Settle down everything will be ok.

We signed Franzen early in 2009 if I recall correctly. Hossa signed with Chicago July 1st. It took one day for Chicago to deal with Hossa. I guarantee that we could have come to terms with Hossa had we not signed Franzen. And even if we didn't, we would have had plenty of time to sign Franzen if talks broke down with Hossa. There was zero chance of losing both. There was no reason to sign Franzen so early. It was a complete blunder by Holland, and I'm no Holland basher.

And yes, I forgot about his off season shoulder surgery. You're still not going to not sign elite talent just because they're going to miss a few months in the beginning of the season.

And we got to game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals with an injured team with much less motivation than Pittsburgh after winning the cup the year before. Hossa, while maybe not scoring as many goals as expected had some key goals and played well. People need to stop blaming him. Our entire team broke down after winning the first two games of the finals.

My only hope is another few years before the next post of yours.

I have gotten that same feeling in the past 24 hours with the moves going on with the wings. It just feels like the Quincey trade was a precursor to something else. Maybe I'm just being hopeful that something more is going on but Kenny always seems to make deals that no one is expecting. Even though the Wings have been playing really well and have good chemistry the only thing that matters is getting it done in the post season. We can't afford to lose to the Sharks again this year! I'm sure Kenny has a plan and I do think there will be another move by the deadline.

In a related note my close friend works for the Maple Leafs and I'm not sure where he is getting his info from but he claims the Red Wings have submitted some sort of offer for Grabovski. Have no idea where he heard this and it shouldn't be taken to seriously but just thought that was interesting.

#2252664 How open would you be to trading Hank?

Posted by Icesurfer on 05 February 2012 - 12:55 AM

The third period against Edmonton is proof there is NOTHING wrong with Zetterberg. Put him with Franzen and Bertuzzi and he looks good. The problem is with Filppula and Hudler or having Filppula and Hudler on the same line. What good does it do when Filppula or Hudler get 30 or 40 points and they give up 40 or 50 points? Wings can not have TWO lightweights on a line with Zetterberg. Neither Filppula nor Hudler are "hard" on the puck. They get knocked off the puck easily and get knocked down easily. When was the last time you saw Filppula deliver a big hit????

If I get to choose players to play against the big teams like St. Louis, San Jose and Vancouver...... Filppula and Hudler are not on it.

Putting Datsyuk on a line with the two lightweights will not work either.

LOL. I have a degree in history as well. I just don't use it to justify shortsighted points and reinforce it with s***ty logic. But you do, so that's cool. :) But you say you are a historian so… :D

I love the idea of Getz but Perry is the goal scorer that we are missing and he's not afraid to muck it up. I player you hate playing against is the one you want on your team. Mule, Ericsson and a pick for Perry and a pick!

You should be shot for suggesting that that ginormous douchebag ever put on a Red Wings jersey.

The fact that he's a dip!@#$ weasel disqualifies him from Ken Holland's consideration anyway.

Wow, sounds like a current forward on this team minus the physical presence and far more offensive upside Getzlaf provides.

So you're suggesting that we trade a player whose play you dislike for another whose play you will similarly dislike. Your own sarcasm is working against you.

By the way, Franzen currently has 33 points and is a +20. Getzlaf? 25 points (a whopping six goals--what, exactly, would we do with another playmaking center?) and a -19. Getzlaf is playing with some very talented hockey players. The team he's on isn't going to make all the difference.

Franzen, tatar, stuart for perry. Makes sense to replace a rw with a rw. We have loads of center depth and getz isnt required like a perry type player who can light the lamp almost every night and is young. If in fact stuart wants back on the west coast and is willing to re-sign with the ducks this is a great package. Throw in a 3rd conditional if stuart doesnt re-sign.

And Anaheim will want Tatar--an unproven scorer--and Stuart--on the last year of his contract--why? By the way, Stuart sold his house in San Jose.

And... we want Perry WHY?

Get over yourself. I've been going to Wings-Flyers games in Philly as a Wings fan for 3 decades now. No issues (to include the 97 SCF games…). I didn't act like a ****** bag, I got treated like a hockey fan. Not to say there aren't d-bag Philly fans, but there are d-bag fans in every town with a team. Lots (but not all) of the stories about how horrible Philly fans are are exaggerated or completely fabricated because it's cool to tell a story about d-bag Philly fans. But no, one dude beats the crap out of somebody = all sports fans in a city of 1.5 million are horrible human beings…

You really think I'm basing my judgment on one event? Have you missed the last 40 years where Philly has more than earned the reputation as a hive of terrible sports fans? In every sport? Yeah, there are bad guys everywhere, but show me another town that CONSISTENTLY shows disgusting levels of violence and disrespect as Philly. Even Ken Dryden in his 1983 book recognized Philly as the worst sports fans. They had that reputation ALREADY back in the early 80s. They've earned it.

And, for the record, anecdotal evidence of your personal experience does not trump evidence gathered by news media for the greater part of 40 years. I hate that kind of defense. "Well I've never seen anything bad, therefore it must not be bad." I've never been shot or raped in Detroit but it happens.

And, just to put icing on the cake: recently a women was hit by THREE cars in Philly, they all drove off instead of stopping.

Can Philadelphia please be stripped of any and all sports teams? Their fans are among the worst human beings I've ever seen. Consistently.

#2233089 Realignment decided - 4 Conferences

If you want to play those Western teams more, it would mean more travel.

The fact we don't play the Eastern teams more frequently is no different than the current format.

You missed the point.
I'm sick if making new rivalries based on the latest whim of a s***box commissioner. How long till he squashes any new ones we make here?
FAIL.

Fail. So we get 38 games of s***ty divisional hockey vs Columbus and Minnesota but only get to see Toronto Montreal Boston Rangers Avs Ducks Sharks and Nucks twice each? Sorry, right now this blows...
LMFAO there's 16 teams eastern timenzoned teams and only 14 made the cut. I hate you for ruining my game Gary!

What Bettman wants Bettman gets. We all should have seen this coming.

I guess nothing really changes for Detroit except that the first two rounds will likely be boring as all get out from here on out. I really wanted to move East, but I guess it's hard to argue that when Columbus is farther east than us.

Too bad, as the Western Conference Finals are usually better than the Cup Finals. Would have liked to play a Western team for the Cup.

Yeah, playing against the Hawks will be boring around here.
