#2221403 This team screams for a trade

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 01 November 2011 - 10:04 PM

Dan Cleary vs. Johan Franzen, 2010-11

If Dan Cleary plays Johan Franzen's ice time, then Cleary scores 25-20-45 at ES, and 10-6-16 on the PP. So he'd have a total of 35-26-61 if he continued the same scoring rate per minute, and played the minutes Franzen did. Which is a completely reasonable suggestion given that Cleary played that amount of time per game, just a large part of it was on the PK.

What did you think of Hudler's play tonight?

If he plays well tomorrow I will eat the crow but I just doubt it.

Unfortunately, you better follow the advice of the people who are telling you "you won't make many friends around here". Because that translates directly into = you're going to get banned. Their is a strict law around these parts as to which players you can openly trash as much as you want to and which ones you can't. Learn it well, or be dismissed.

Lidstrom = God. Don't even comment on not liking the color of his skate laces.
Zetterberg/Datsyuk/Kronwall = Untouchables. Anything more than a "what's up with?" and you're gone for 7 days.
Helm/Stuart/Cleary/White/Franzen/Howard/Kindl = DGR's. As in you better have a Damn Good Reason to say something. Otherwise, you're gonna take a lot of heat. And probably will even if what you said was true.
Mursak/Tatar/Nyquist/Bertuzzi/Filppula/Abdelkader/Holmstrom/Eaves/Miller/Emmerton/Conklin = Fair game for bashing, but you will offend one poster who happens to like one of these guys as their favorite for some reason.
Hudler/Ericsson = Open Season. As far as LGW goes, there can't be enough Hudler or Ericsson Bashing. Let 'er rip.

This is the point sailing over your head--> *

This is your head ----------------------------> O

It has nothing to do with who is untouchable and who is not. It has to do with constructive criticism that isn't insulting. Lidstrom can be criticized as much as Conklin, but that doesn't mean because one is our captain and the other is our back-up goaltender, one is afforded more respect than the other. They both play for our team, they're both important cogs to our team's success, and that's that. If you can't criticize either one without giving them sophomoric nicknames, then let someone else make your point better and just +1 them.

No, I get that point.

But come on. What's the difference between calling Ty Conklin "Craplin" and saying Jiri Hudler is lazy and sucks? It's the same outcome, but for some reason, the powers that be don't want any nicknaming done while bashing. I think that is pretty crazy.

P.S. That made me laugh, Electrophile.

You sound wounded. I gather you were oft-criticized on your old account.

Crysmon, I've got your number. Fish in a barrel.

#2195221 Forward lines next season?

Posted by Guest on 02 July 2011 - 01:43 PM

Haha I could say the same thing. Mainly because I CANNOT vote in a presidential election. Detroit needed to fill out the 4th line anyway, the cap space designated to a 1st or 2nd line winger ($2.3M or whatever it was for Jagr) has no correlation to that. It's not an either or discussion. The cap space and need to re-sign Miller and Eaves (or any equivalent players) would've been there anyway.

i'm going to talk you through this...nice...and...slow...and...simple...okay??

how many forwards can you dress on a team??

how many forwards do you usually see carried on a team??

how many forwards did we have under contract before july 1?

12 (1-datsyuk, 2-zetterberg, 3-franzen, 4-filppula, 5-hudler, 6-cleary, 7-holmstrom, 8-bertuzzi, 9-helm, 10-abdelkader, 11-mursak, 12-emmerton

how many forwards do we have under contract since after july 1?

14 (13-eaves, 14-miller)

...so now, you, genius, tell me how the signing of eaves and miller does not effect the potential signing of a "jagr type"?

or, as I'm sure you're too stupid to do, you can just acknowledge that you were wrong and move on.

The lack of respect for Miller and Bertuzzi astounds me. These claims that Bert can't handle second-line ice are 100% bulls***. The guy outscored Homer and Flip. He produces about a point every other game on average. That's what you expect from a mid-level second-liner. He was also one of the hardest working defensive forwards we saw, five-on-five, and got props from Babs for it on a few occasions. He's a good player. Same with Miller. He's unspectacular but he's effective at what he does and he works his ass off on the defensive side of the puck.

Sometimes a team adds by subtraction. Losing Drapes, Modano, and hopefully Hudler, the forward corps loses a couple of its softest forwards and another whose job was replaced by Helm long ago. Equally true on defense. It cannot be said that Rafalski wasn't a defensive liability at even strength. He was just too easy to muscle off the puck. Period. And the back end still has people that can generate offense, even if a big trade doesn't come down. Lidstrom and Kronwall are elite, offensively. Stuart is capable if he gets back into the swing of acting like the defenseman he was in SJ and Boston. Ericsson and Kindl have considerable untapped offensive ability as well. It's all about improvement from within. This team's got a big pile of guys in their twenties right now. If they get better, the team will do fine. If they regress, the team will suffer.

At the very least, subtracting its two softest forwards and its softest defensemen, the team will be tougher to play against, even if it's a bit of a loss with respect to top-end skill. I like the change.

#2193158 Wings re-sign Ericsson to 3-year, $9.75m contract

Posted by Cali-Wing-Nut on 01 July 2011 - 01:33 AM

Sorry, gang, but when I joined here people were lambasting Kronner at $3m/year. I don't think that by the end of this we'll be sorry.

Does anyone know if E's mom is ok now? I had heard she was fighting cancer last year. Worrying about a loved one can have a bad effect on your concentration. Maybe this is why he is getting another chance to prove himself.

Dont bring his mom into it.

Hes Big

Hes Strong

and hes a limp wristed *****.

We cant afford to keep him on the team. We can monetarily handle it but the Wings arent going to WIN with him on the team. He got signed for one of two things...

1. Hes set to be traded to Toronto or Winni or Ottawa. OH GOD PLEASE MAKE IT TRUE.

2. Holland bluffed and waited and lost. Now hes picking up the pieces.

3. Im a total idiot that has no room to talk and we have a Grade A defense crew next year

I dont think #3 is the case.

I lost the small shred of respect I had left for him

that's pretty hilarious coming from a bet welcher that won't respond to PMs. LOL

#2180002 Why no team is likely to offer sheet Doughty, Weber, or Parise

Posted by Bannedforlife on 26 May 2011 - 01:09 PM

...or Parise.

Because they're all eligible for salary arbitration (which protects a player from offer sheets), and if these players are not signed by July 1st, it's likely that will be taken to arbitration (the arbitration award is not likely to be as high as what exposing such a player to offer sheets could drive their salary to). A team has the option to take a player to arbitration once per each player's career (a tool to protect a valuable player from offer sheets during their most valuable RFA period). A player can still choose to go to arbitration any time he comes up as RFA.

This has been a public service announcement.

Thank god you're around to protect all of us from our own imaginations. Now that this great service has been rendered, why don't you start touring around elementary schools dispelling the evil myths of Santa Claus and the Easter bunny. While you're at it, maybe you can share with them the odds of becoming astronauts, or baseball players, or the president of the United States. Much better that they stop dreaming now than to learn the crushing truth on their own.
