If there's one guy who wants Dan Girardi on the Wings, it's this guy. *points to himself* But it seems so exceedingly unlikely that I'm basically not even considering it an option. Same with Callahan. (Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Callahan would be the best line in hockey.) They'll both re-sign with the Rags, and Richards will almost certainly be bought out. Like I said earlier, I can see Holland kicking Richards' tires, especially if Weiss doesn't turn things around.
The new CBA, specifically the cap recapture provision, specifically the part that states that the penalty applies to the team that originally signed the deal, not the team that owns the player when he retires.
Plus, many other things related to the "business world that is called the NHL"...
Setting my dislike of Franzen aside, it still makes the most sense to rid ourselves of that contract. If Holland were to trade him, he'd most definitely have to include a check for a lot of that salary to the team picking him up. I mentioned David Booth before (maybe it was in the Weiss thread) but I mentioned him getting back with Weiss to possibly reunite the chemistry they had in Florida. Someone said that Booth is doing very well right, and well, neither is Weiss at the moment and putting them back together wouldn't be good at all. An example I am going to use (and this doesn't mean the same will work for Weiss, but it has a chance to work) is Mike Richards and Jeff Carter. They were gangbusters in Philly, got traded top separate teams and they were both struggling to the point that people were calling them washed up. LA takes a chance, makes the deal to reunite them, and viola! Look at what they did together in LA! May or may not work, but Weiss needs a bit a familiarity to play with. I still say Franzen will be an all-star if he gets out there with the Sedins, if Sammy can score 35 with them, Franzen can top 40 with them. And just maybe reuniting Booth and Wiess would spark something. Trade Franzen and some cash (to cover part of his contract) to Vancouver for Booth, its a win-win situation for both teams...
I still maintain Holland needs to address the #1 right winger spot. Not sure who that would be, but there are a couple of high end guys out there that will be UFA. Most importantly we must say Goodbye to ALL of the pending UFA's on this team, with the only exception being Alfie, if he still wants to play and ONLY if he takes a similar contract. I am very happy with Gustavsson's play this year, but he is also playing to get a starting job. He will get a raise when he signs his next contract and for us, that is too much. Mrazek is ready to be Jimmy's back-up and successor in the future and is a very minimal cap hit. GR will continue on with Coreau and Paterson as their tandem. Bertuzzi, Cleary, Sammy, and Quincey must go. If I could drop Q and Cleary today, I would.
Weiss actually looked some what decent. He is playing better and just needs to play big minutes more often for it to click. You guys gotta chill He played a decent game vs the Panthers
Unfortunately, he is 25 games into his stint with the Red Wings and saying "he actually looked somewhat decent" every few weeks is all he has garnered thus far. He saw as much time as he is going to see with Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Helm on the shelf and has one assist in the past month to show for it. As those players start to return, his role will be further phased out until he is back between plugs on the 4th line with single-digit minutes.
I wanted Weiss to succeed as much as anyone, and I had really hoped he would take advantage of these last few games. Seeing how he played against the Panthers the other night sealed it for me. If he was ever going to wake up, he would have done it against his former team, but he looked lazy and lost out there. He has a worse PPG than Dan Cleary while being paid to be our 2nd-line center and provide offense.
At this point it would take a miraculous turn around to warrant keeping him at his cap-hit and with the return of Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Helm on the horizon and the emergence of Nyquist and Tatar, I don't see how that is even a remote possibility.
He is big but strong? Come on I could poke him with my finger and he would fall over then his response would would be to whine and cry. He is the definition of a ***** not a power forward. He is fine of those people that everyone knows....he runs his **** sucker telling you what he is going to do but never has the balls to do it. He is a ***** don't ever label him as a power forward again its a disgrace to the REALnpower forwards of this league.
He is terrible in way more than HALF of the games he plays. That's why he should be bought out. Even though Weiss isn't scoring points he still brings more than what franzen does. Z and DAT when they're not scoring? They provide leadership and defense.
Jesus you're delusional. Did Franzen f*** your mom or something? Without Franzen we are way too small in the top 6. Nobody on this team can play the way Franzen does. He is crucial to our success if you haven't noticed. The problem in our top 6 is guys like Bertuzzi, Cleary and Weiss (when they get put there) and not Franzen
If Franzen played on any other team we would be dieing to get him to Detroit.
He was floating last night while Nyquist and Tatar did all the work. But he floated in the right spot to bury agoal
You don't know anything about hockey then cause Franzen was our best forward. Sometimes the stat sheet doesn't show how good a player played
I never predict scores, but I can see Weiss tallying a goal and an assist tonight. I'd love to see him get THAT game under his belt. And, on another note, am I the only one who thought Ken Daniels said Weiss' name after Tatar's goal last night? Or am I just going nuts?
All I know is Tatar better be on one of the top 2 lines from now on (even when Pav and Hank return). He continues to prove game after game that he can be a difference maker and a game changer. Time for Abby to head back to the 3rd line where he belongs.
Might sound silly, but I think the Olympics might just be in Howard's head. Giroux had an abysmal start to the season for a similar reason. If he doesn't turn it around before the olympic break, it will be interesting to see how he performs after it is over with.
