I am so torn on this. Obviously Ouellet is the most NHL ready right now and I think that Sproul has all the tools to be an absolute stud in this league if he puts things together (which I'm not sure that he is) - I originally hoped that Sproul could be a Weber-Lite.
But I have to say that Jensen is probably the guy for me. When I watch the Griffins live he always stands out for me at ice level. He is lightning fast and moves the puck very well. He seems like a Duncan Keith-Lite type player in my eyes when I watch him. I just think he could be a very reliable player in our system and his game will translate well to the NHL.
Backman is the kind of player that you won't know what will happen until he play in the NHL. He will either light it up or he will shy away from the physicality of the game. He is fairly tall but isn't very bulky/heavy. I have no idea how well he will transition - wild card.
Marchenko is probably the guy I am lowest on. He just doesn't really dominate in any one facet of the game (he is okay at pretty much everything). I see a RH Ericsson in him sort of. He hasn't been quite the same for me since the ankle injury. That being said - I still like him a lot!
I just think more forwards is the last thing we need
Well ROR would be sweet to have when Z and Dats are gone. The guy is a stud. We would be moving a pretty substantial piece at FWD in addition to something on D in any deal for him but that won't be happening.
So.... Datsyuk on the third line in definitely unorthodox and I can't imagine he'll stay there for long, and the Datsyuk, Helm, Weiss line hasn't always looked cohesive out there, but at the same time, since Babs has been rolling these lines, the Wings have scored 14 goals in three games (all victories), and has had production from all four lines. In fact, the only players to not register at least a point in the past three games are Glendening and Mrazek (yes, Howard has one too). Even if Datsyuk is on the third line, there's no way you split these lines up until guys start cooling off.
Its not like Babs is calling it and using it like a 3rd line. Realistically every line is taking a regular shift and getting good ice time. Also the "3rd line" is one of the power play units and its not magic that the power play has clicked since the same guys have stuck together. I don't think Dats is offended to be playing with those players after playing with cleary and abby for nearly 2 seasons on the "1st line." I agree - these guys have to stay together.
