1. Francine trade: At the worst case, trade him for Booth (reunited with Weiss... and still 1 year on his contract). Francine and twins sister's could be interesting for Canucks.
2. Quincey trade: Since his best days were in LA, I would send him, Eaves and a pick to Kings for Clifford.
3. Emmerton and a pick for Rundbland, I think that at this point his value is low... but he could be nice fit here with Either Kindl or DeKe. Provide us option for the 2nd PP unit.
4. Sammy: bye/bye
Z - Dats - Bert
Alf - Weiss - Tatar
Nyquist/Booth - Andersson - Abdelkader/Clifford
Clifford - Helm - Tootoo/Miller/Cleary
Kronwall - E
Kindl - Rundbland
DeKe - Smith
Almquist - Lashoff - Ouellet (as a 7th D)
Trading Franzen to Vancouver and taking on Booth is terrible for us! Franzen will retire before his contract is up and we will take the brunt of the contract penalty (we can buy him out this offseason instead). Instead we take on 1 more year of booth at 4.25mill and he is more useless than franzen then years down the road we get stuck with franzen's cap penalty from retirement.
EDIT: I like the rundblad idea - but bags would destroy him (another offensive dman)
Weiss has slowly improved. Last night he was creating chances and looked half decent. He isn't anywhere near where we need him to be yet but he IS improving - slowly. Part of this is likely that his wingers (cleary) aren't creating chances or burying the ones he provides.
I think we should target a stay at home dman. Ideally that is Girardi due to RH shot but doesn't have to be. We really need to be subtracting Quincey rather than Smith and we can DEFINITELY afford to trade our 1st this year with the plethora of prospects jammed in the pipeline. Franzen isn't worth much due to the contract length despite the cap hit - and we are screwed if he retires (compliance buyout). Edler is very expensive because he is on a great contract and is a top 2 defender on a team that needs him.
I would prefer to do something like:
1st 2014 + 2nd 2015 + Quincey for Girardi at the trade deadline if NYR are out of the playoffs and can't re-sign all their guys under the cap.
EDIT: Also no interest in Booth anywhere near this team.
Imagine 100% Helm and Nyquist in this team. That would be a big skill and speed boost.
I think the main thing we are lacking is SPEED. We are slow and both these guys have wheels (Helm in particular). The only reason Tootoo is useful out there is because he skates and is everywhere - we need more of this.
I just want to weigh in on the penalty issue. I think it is completely plausible that the refs are told to influence the game slightly to keep it close. How many times have we seen a pp for a team right after they were scored on? All the time. In a big original 6 game with the home team down and the only game on tv i think the refs went a little overboard tonight. They made knit pick calls on detroit that they turned the blind eye to when boston did them. Thats my 2 cents.
What makes this worse for me is that he played his whole career on a team that carried some of the toughest SOB's to ever lace them up who night in and night out put there ass on the line to protect him. Complete disrespect to those guys. RIP Probie.
Leave the game alone you sissies.
I disagree. I think that Stevie would see how that role affected those players (a lot of drug use, brain damage and depression etc) and feel bad that they had to go through those things to protect him. In essence he might want to protect players from being put in a situation where they have to play that role.
Although he was playing with Sammy (the anchor) Jarnkrok looks very far away from the NHL. I hate to say it because I had such high expectations, but he has a long way to go. He hasn't even shown any flashes of anything really. He isn't being boneheaded or anything but just not looking like a future top 6 centre.
