Cleary fits in Grand Rapids

I think we can all agree

I disagree.

#2529155 Quincey re-signed by DET. 2 yr s $4.25 mill AAV

And somewhere in a dark, quiet room, Brett Lebda & Derek Meech are waiting for their calls from Kenny too at this very moment.

...and Ian White is wiping his butt in the bathroom across the hall.

#2528489 2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades

Posted by kipwinger on 01 July 2014 - 03:19 PM

Trading a young asset like Jurco or Tatar for Myers is the very definition of a panic move.  I can't believe I have to explain why trading a cheap, up and coming, top six forward for a guy who's making 5.5 million on potential is a bad idea.

Calgary got Jonas Hiller, Dallas got Spezza, Detroit gets a rock.

Do you have a source to support your claim of Detroit actually acquiring said rock?

#2524709 Detroit re-signs Gustavsson 1 yr $1.85 mill

Posted by VM1138 on 19 June 2014 - 09:21 PM

Kind of silly to be upset over this. It's a backup role. So what if there were a small handful of slightly better goalies? They aren't THAT much better, and Gus is a known quantity with an establishes relationship with the team. It's really a non-issue. I would've liked to have had Mrazek as the backup but its pretty hard to get upset over Gus coming back.

#2525711 Adam Almquist signed with KHL club

Posted by Nev on 25 June 2014 - 01:10 PM

Everyone keeps bringing up Rafalski, but keeps forgetting that Rafalski could skate.  Almquist can't.  Remember Rafalski his last 2 years when his back and his knees went and he couldn't keep up?  It was painful to watch opponents repeatedly beat him round the outside because he had neither the size nor the speed to stop them.

#2525331 Alfie informs Wings he wants to return

Man, I don't care if the guy's 42, 45, 58 1/2 - it's one less spot for Dan Cleary.

#2524979 Brad Richards bought out by Rangers

Posted by FlashyG on 20 June 2014 - 11:46 PM

So let me see if I got this correct. The rags buyout Richards. He is younger than Franzen, scored more goals this past year for Franzen, plys better D than Franzen, plays n more games than franzen, and had an equally long and bad contact. But we can't buyout Franzen? Please try to support that now! can't be done. This is what buyouts are to be used for, not TooToo.

Brad Richards age 34 - Contract remaining - 6 years with a cap hit of 6.67 Million a season

Johan Franzen age 34 - Contract remaining - 6 years with a cap hit of 3.95 million a season

New York Rangers Goal differential +25

Brad Richards plus minus -8

Detroit Red Wings goal differential -8

Johan Franzen plus minus +6

Hits

Brad Richards 24

Johan Franzen 66

Giveaways

Brad Richards 46

Johan Franzen 28

Faceoffs

Brad Richards 49.8%

Johan Franzen 52.9%

Richards slightly outscored Franzen this year but was far worse defensively and he costs almost double what Franzen does. That's why one is employed and the other was paid to go away.

But in all seriousness, he was a very good defenceman and although goofy I could see him commanding some respect as a coach.

#2524440 Compliance buyout expected to be used on Tootoo

Posted by haroldsnepsts on 18 June 2014 - 01:28 PM

I'd miss him too, but I can't remember any of the 11 games he played in last year.

Think back to the ones with the lame staged fights.

#2523833 Wings sign Tomas Nosek to 2 year entry level deal

Posted by VM1138 on 14 June 2014 - 12:12 PM

Who cares where a person was born? They sign the best available players. It could be none of the local boys were as good.

#2522735 Adam Almquist says hes considering returning to Sweden to avoid AHL

Posted by Nev on 04 June 2014 - 11:42 AM

Brian Rafalski was 5-9 190lbs.

Brian Rafalski could skate.

And then look what happened to him the last couple of years when his knees and back gave up.  He still had the elite puck moving skills, but lack of size and inability to skate made him a defensive liability.

#2521156 Blues re-sign Elliott, announce Miller won't be back

Posted by paulwoodsfan on 19 May 2014 - 12:19 PM

The Ducks are loaded in goal, and Gibson is a fantastic prospect. They would be near the bottom of teams I'd expect to pitch for Miller.

#2509883 Gus & Tatar almost traded to Calgary per McKenzie

Posted by DickieDunn on 15 April 2014 - 06:33 PM

Kenny is a trade machine:
Nyquist, Smith and the 1st (Mantha) for Edler
or
Nyquist and Tatar for JBO
Well, he said that this isn't the kids league afterall right?!

The other side are the people screaming about how he doesn't have the balls to make a trade or the ones who think that Cleary, Almquist, and Miller will bring back a quality player.
