#2538062 NHL Gamecenter Live **No illegal stream discussion**

Posted by ogreslayer on 02 October 2014 - 08:29 PM

Hi. I just signed up for GameCenter Live. However, after reading about the blackouts, I'm a bit confused. Does this mean that I won't be able to watch any Red Wings games live at all, as I live in the Detroit area or just the home games?

Might want to read the FAQs about Gamecenter blackouts on the NHL's site here:

You'll find one of the paragraphs in particular rather interesting.

#2538044 2014 Prospects Tournament and Training Camp (Sept. 12-23)

It's crazy because I didn't even know who the kid was a couple weeks ago, but I gotta say Jensen looks like the biggest difference-maker of the bunch from what I've seen. I can't believe how solid he looked at all ends of the ice. It doesn't hurt that he has a good set of wheels and a right-handed shot either.

Got to wonder how further along he would be if Little Bert hadn't goaded him into the fight that screwed up his shoulder in last year's development camp.

UPDATE: The ‪#‎RedWings‬ have sent Ryan Sproul, Colin Campbell, Martin Frk, Mattias Backman, Richard Nedolmel and Andreas Athanasiou to theGrand Rapids Griffins.

Additionally, Joe Hicketts will go to the Victoria Royals, and Berschbach, Hirschfeld and Zengerle have been released from their tryouts.

Looks like Jensen, Marchenko, & Ouellet are considered the front runners to take spots with Sproul & Backman being sent down.  Just hope they are given a legitimate shot yet at taking Kindl & Lashoff's jobs to start the season, especially with how bad those two looked against the Pens last night.

#2537853 NHL Gamecenter Live **No illegal stream discussion**

Does anyone know if the FCC ruling re: blackouts is going to have any real effect on games streaming and/or seeing them on tv? Because if I can just pony up the $10 bucks a month for the Fox Sports package through AT&T and get ALL of the Red Wings games that are on FSN-D (that aren't simultaneously broadcast on NHL Network or NBCSN) then I'd much rather do that than buy GCL again.

I was trying to get the jist of all that, but it mostly discussed the repercussions for the NFL instead of any of the other sports leagues.

The FCC ruling will have no effect on blackouts at all.  All the ruling means is that sports leagues no longer have government backing to support blacking out games if they aren't sell outs.  The leagues still have private blackout rules baked into their contracts with broadcasters that extend beyond simple rules for non-sellout games, like only getting access to out of market games by paying for Sunday Ticket, Extra Innings, or Center Ice.

Basically if you're not in Michigan where FSD is considered your local market, you will not be able to see non-nationally televised Wings' games without Center Ice or Gamecenter Live. (Legally that is, not that I condone illegal means)  Simply buying a sports pack that gives you access to all of the local Fox Sports channels will mean you can watch everything else they broadcast but you'll still be blacked out from the actual games.

#2536964 Did the Wings change the font on their jerseys?

Just one year I would like to see them change it to Comic Sans in the preseason to really throw everyone off.

#2536527 Mantha's Injury

Posted by ogreslayer on 18 September 2014 - 02:57 PM

Someone needs to explain to me why some posters believe this helps Jurco's chances...?

It wasn't like Mantha was the reason Jurco will start the season in GR.

Not the sole reason but if Mantha had impressed enough to make the team, that pretty much would guarantee Jurco would start the year in GR at least in my opinion.  With one less body to compete against, his chances of sticking with the big club at the start of the year improve dramatically, especially without Alfie around & his main competition being Callahan & Ferraro who I still think would both make it through waivers.

#2535956 FanSided.com's All-Time Red Wings Team (as a 23-man roster)

{sarcasm mode /ON}

Who wants a goon like Probert playing alongside such fine talents as we see with Datsyuk, and Zetterberg?

{sarcasm mode /OFF}

I'm sure Red Wings owner Dave Ilitch would.

#2535794 Las Vegas rumored to get an expansion team

Do not ever place in my head the image of Bettman in a thong again or I will force you into a Penguins jersey and leave you in Philly.

Ew.  Ew ewewewewewewewew.

The Las Vegas Thong and Dance?

I believe he takes a suitcase full of these when he goes to Vegas:

As much as I like Seinfeld - I'd get into it more if it had a 'Big Lebowski' theme night.

The Dude could abide that:

I am surprised no one suggested the Las Vegas Hookers.  ;)

So would there be no hooking penalties at all when playing in Nevada?

#2535085 Fedorov and Yzerman vs. Datsyuk and Zetterberg

Posted by ogreslayer on 28 August 2014 - 12:46 PM

Here is an interesting question......of the 3 remaining, which get their jersey's retired?

I'm guessing D and Z both do, while Fedorov does not.

Given some quotes I've seen from the front office over the years, the first question that will need to be answered is which of those 3 will make the HoF which is the first step in getting their number retired.  "But, but, but Stevie & Lids got their numbers retired before HoF induction", I hear you say.  Yeah, but there was no denying that those two would be in the HoF before they even hung up their skates.  Personal HoF opinion is Feds might not be a 1st ballot HoFer but he should be, Dats might have to wait a year or two but he'll get in, & Z has at best an outside chance if he stays healthy.  So out of those 3, Pavel has the best chance of having his jersey in the rafters in the near future with Sergei maybe getting a shot with a little forgiveness & time, like in another decade plus as nostalgia begins to outweigh the bad vibes that a large part of the fan base still have in regards to Sergei.

As to the question posed by the OP though, Stevie & Sergei in a no-brainer.

Instead of posting this as a new thread, I'll throw out a similar question to everyone here.  The Wings are in a tough battle for a Stanley Cup.  It's game 7 and right before the game, Doc Brown pulls up in his DeLorean, tells you the fate of the world hinges on the Wings winning & offers you the opportunity to pluck one former Wing in his prime from the time stream to guarantee a victory.  Who do you pick & why?  My choice is a close one, but I would take the quiet, consistent perfection of Lidstrom over the more manic variety of Hasek.  So who you got?

#2533155 Tatar Signs 3 Year Deal $2.75 mill AAV

And with a 3 year deal, Tatar is an RFA not UFA, when the deal expires.

#2533041 Ferraro re-signed: 1-year $550K (2-way)

Posted by ogreslayer on 26 July 2014 - 09:43 AM

If another team claims him on waivers, doesn't he have to be placed on their active NHL roster?  Or can you claim someone and assign them to the AHL?

In 99.999999% of the time, a claimed player would have to go through waivers a second time if claimed by an NHL team who then wanted to assign the player to the AHL.  The lone exception to that is when a player who was already claimed on waivers is waived a second time & the team that initially lost him on waivers reclaims him.  In that case, the original team can send him straight to the AHL.
